Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

An Average Joe's Schedule Predictions

Star-divide

What up guys? I have put together some schedule predictions for the upcoming Jaguars season. I wanted to do one right after the release of the schedule via the NFL, but I decided to wait, figuring it would be better if the rookies were figured in.

I have tried to put these together not allowing my love for the Jags to get in the way. I think this will be another year of a lot of close games for the Jags, and our season could go either way, based on a few plays.

Week One: At Indianapolis Colts- Win, 24-20

This is going to be a nail biter, and could go either way very fast. However, I think the Jags will be really fired up with their new uniforms, and new atmosphere this year. The Jaguars recent additions have really shored up the offense and defense. If the draft picks play up to their potential, the Jaguars will have a balanced attack that will decimate the Colts little defense.

Week Two: Arizona Cardinals- Loss, 38-34

The Jags return off of their week one upset of Indy fired up, but unfortunately the Cardinals have a chip on their shoulder. This turns into somewhat of a shootout, but the Jaguars can't hang with the firepower the 'Cards bring. Cards win a close one.

Week Three: At Houston Texans- Loss, 21-17

The Jags go on the road to Texas. Houston is dangerous this year, and always gives the Jags fits anyway. The Texans have a newfound running game to balance the offense, and a lot of defensive talent. Jags lose another close one.

Week Four: Tennessee Titans- Win, 14-10

This is always a tough, physical game against the hated Titans. The Jaguars want to get back to .500, and smash the Titans in the mouth to get there. Jags win a physical battle at home.

Week Five: At Seattle Seahawks- Win, 21-20

Qwest Field is a hard place to play. The technological advantage of the stadium filters noise downwards, making audibles and the no huddle nearly impossible. However, the Jags pull out a close one against this tough home crowd.

Week Six: St. Louis Rams- Win, 35-17

This is one of those "should wins" for the Jags. The Rams are a team in rebuilding mode after winning just two games the year before. The Jags should be able to keep a comfortable lead throughout the game, and come away with a good team win before the bye week.

Week Seven: Bye Week

Week Eight: At Tennessee Titans- Loss, 17-16

The Jags lose a heartbreaker at the Titans. Even coming off a bye week, the Jags have bogged down and are off of their three game winning streak. A physical game that has the Jaguars defense excelling, the Titans are strong at home and this one is just too much of a task.

Week Nine: Kansas City Chiefs- Win, 31-10

This is another "should win". The Chiefs are another team that has finally admitted that it is time to rebuild, and will struggle against the Jaguars talent. The Jags get a good one at home.

Week Ten: At New York Jets- Loss, 21-14

The Jets aren't a cupcake team, especially with Rex Ryan as the new head coach. The Jags go into the Meadowlands fighting, but don't come out with the win.

Week Eleven: Buffalo Bills- Win, 20-17(OT)

The Bills gave the Jaguars a good game last season, coming back in the final minutes against a Jaguars defense that seemed so close yet so far, to the sack. This time it will be no different, going into overtime. Scobee wins the game for the home crowd.

Week Twelve: At San Francisco 49ers- Win, 24-13

The Jags go into Singletary's lair with a win on their mind. The Niners aren't all that good yet, despite having some solid talent at key positions. Crabtree wishes he was picked by the Jags when Rashean Mathis shuts him down to three catches for 20 yards.

Week Thirteen: Houston Texans- Win, 28-17

The Jags want some revenge upon the Texans, and this time show them up at The Jack. The Jags get a good division win here at home in J-Ville.

Week Fourteen: Miami Dolphins- Loss, 20-14

The Dolphins are a gritty team after playing their tough schedule. They come to Jacksonville ready for a physical battle that the Jags just don't expect from a team with a fish on their helmet. The Dolphins get the nod here.

Week Fifteen: Indianapolis Colts- Win, 34-27

This is the big one. The Jaguars have been preparing for this game ever since week two. Thursday night crowd is in the house, and The Jack is loud. This game will come down to the wire, but the Jags come out victorious with the help of interceptions from Reggie Nelson and Derek Cox on Peyton Manning. The Jags win the great one.

Week Sixteen: At New England Patriots- Loss, 20-6

The Pats house is going to have some snow. The Jags are built for cold weather, but they are in for a surprise. The Jags meet an old friend in Fred Taylor, who has some inspiration in his legs. He pounds the rock against his former team, and the Jags just can't come away with this one.

Week Seventeen: At Cleveland Browns- Win, 15-7

The Jags come away with the ugly win in the snow. The playoffs are on the line and the Jags don't disappoint. Jones-Drew earns his money in this one, pounding the ball running behind Eben Britton and Vince Manuwai.

The Jaguars finish the season 10-6 and get into the playoffs by the skin of their teeth as the 6th seed. Houston has won the division, posting a 12-4 record. Indianapolis finishes 9-7 and misses the playoffs, along with Tennessee who will finish 7-9.

The Jaguars lose six games, but go 4-2 in division games, and sweep the Colts. After going 5-11, a season like this is looked at as a great success and Gene Smith is given credit for a good draft.

its amazing to look at this. You just wrote a fictional story based off the inspiration of a team.

fun to think of it as a story isn’t it? The players write stories on and off the field. Legacies are born and ended. Uknnowns become household names and in the off-season we get to imagine it and make what we want, however uninformed we are. Great read!

Pretty funny man

When I did my predictions a couple weeks ago, I’m pretty sure I had Houston winning the division with 12-4 and we went 10-6. I think we see eye to eye on alot more than I thought.

No Way

We must agree on a lot. Before the draft I was thinking we go 7-9,8-8. But after that draft, that really is growing on me every day, I think 10-6 and the 6th seed is reachable.

couldnt agree more

and i don’t think it’s because im being overly optimistic

the jags were missing little things last year.

checklist
o-line
DT help in rotation (meier is fine when splitting time
WR (someone, rac would be greatly appreciated)
CB (so B. Williams can play SS)
HB Depth(…)
CHECK

LOL

The thing is, our drafts have sucked for so long that you probably expected something just a little bit better than usual. Little did any of us know that we would come away with so many quality players. I mean, we got BA picks from top to bottom in the whole draft. It still blows my mind when I think about it.

Yeah

Haha. When the Jags finally come away with a good draft, we don’t know how to act. I guess this is how the Patriots fans feel every year.

They're cocky son of a guns

I wonder where they will all be after Brady retires. I’m bitter, I know.

Dude

I still feel like NE got the best of the league in the Matt Cassel deal. They took a no name quarterback and made him look fairly good in one season. Then they turn around and trade him for a 2nd rounder before anyone knows what’s going on. I do NOT think Cassel is going to be able to maintain the level he was playing at last season. I think NE once again were genuises and traded him out of there at the peak of his game and made sure they got maximum value (even though they could have gotten a first for Cassel, no the point) before anyone realized he’s overvalued. Cassel is not a franchise quarterback. But they sure made him look like one so they could trade him, huh? I may be wrong. But that’s my opinion.

That's why

I’ve always thought that a team should use it’s strengths to help them in the draft. For example if you are a prolific passing team and you have a lot of WR’s that get big numbers every year, like with the Cards or Pats draft a lot of WR’s in the late rounds and then when they have enough good tape trade them to teams hurting for WR’s like the Raiders were.

Just about right

You nailed it only I think we sweep both the Colts and Titans and lose one other game

Love it!

Even if we didn’t make the playoffs…10-6 is a marked improvement, and a great impetus for 2010. Great Read!
