Thomas or Monroe?
First off, this is my very first "fan post".... and I'm not even sure if this is the right place to post something like this. Apologies if I should have posted this elsewhere.
I was delighted when we signed Tra Thomas - finally, a LT who could provide some decent protection for David. Then, I was delighted at drafting Monroe as a potential LT for the foreseeable future. But who starts?
If Monroe is good enough to start, then what do we do with Thomas? Are we going to inter-change the two of them during games? Strange to have so much depth at this position which was a disaster for us last year.
I heard Thomas speak on the Jaguars This Week show, and he sounded pretty damn keen to play for a few years. I know this sort of competition can only be good for a team, and I'm hoping that Thomas can pass on a LOT of knowledge to the youngster.... but I hope having two potential starters for LT doesn't cause any bad feeling between the players.
How do you guys see this playing out over the coming season?

Thomas will start at LT, unless he just flat out loses the job to Monroe… Either way, im happy…

Run blocking
Interesting how we now have two LT’s that supposedly can’t run block. I’ll bet that whoever is best at that aspect will start. I see Thomas starting the season, but then Monroe getting his shot at some point, just like Khalif’s first season.

It's funny...
When Thomas came out of FSU he was known for his run blocking and not his pass blocking. Because Philly has a pass happy scheme he developed into one of the best pass blockers. I can only assume that once you learn how to do something, it’s like riding a bike, you never forget how. I believe he’ll do well in the run dept. once he gets back into the routine of it.
When it comes to who starts…. I’d say Thomas, but I’ve been wrong before.

I hear you.
I just like how the Jaguars eased him into the starting lineup.
Spending the first few games on the bench might do Monroe some good, especially facing Indy in week 1.

I think this has been one of the most successful drafts for the Jaguars in a long time. This is a very good debate to be having.

Thats the beauty of it
You can afford to have them battle it out and have the best player start. Money will dictate that Monroe will start next year for sure, but no one will fault Del Rio for starting a respected veteran at a tough position and let the future learn and develop. No doubt in my mind Monroe gets plenty of time regardless.

Thomas First
I think they start Thomas first let Eugune learn the Ropes unless thomas just get plain beat out in training camp. Both of them are good. Its a good feeling to have 2 good starter caliber LT’s this year instead of one wanna be LT (Barnes) Collier could have been his successor but i am sorry for him on what happened (Collier was a heck of a run blocker just had problems with his weight )

Whoever is the best tackle coming out of training camp. Yes, it is that simple.
Jacksonville Jaguars. It's what I do.

You see... this is the kind of debate I like...
One of those it doesn’t matter debates, win-win-win all around. The only road bump I could see is Monroe getting hung-up in contract talks, starting the season late and coming in towards, the end of the seson to spell T.Thomas. Or the Jags could just say we got the time… it’s your money, when do you want to start making it? Or there’s the right side. Oh… but we got this young hungry guy from the desert that wants to hit people… he signed early.
All scenarios are working in this debate.
Let’s talk defense and that guy from Temple. Let’s get the D-line scenario’s going!

And very
athletic for his size. Good change of direction, long arms, big hands, and good balance. I think he may even become a better DT than Raji. Raji is more explosive, but he has bad balance, weight problems, character issues, short arms(Bad for run stopping and for batting down passes/kicks that Knighton has gotten good at blocking.), and a weak motor.

all good points
http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/terrance-knighton?id=81841
Terrence Knighton, DT Jacksonville Jaguars
6’3" 321 lb.’s
Positives: Good height, length and girth for his position. … Better-than-expected straight-line speed and change-of-direction ability, able to sniff out and disrupt screen plays. … Will chase plays downfield. … Strong upfield rush, either up the shoulder of his defender or splitting double teams. … Uses his long arms to wrap up in the open field or track down ballcarriers coming through the hole. … Flashes violent hands, especially when his man retreats off the snap in passing situations. … Active knocking down passes and blocking field goals because of his push, arm length and large hands. … Keeps cut blocks off his knees. … Athletic enough to quickly jump on loose balls and get down quickly in short-yardage situations.
Negatives: Might be a nose tackle and three-technique “tweener.” … Not particularly explosive off the snap. … Doesn’t play as strong as his size would indicate and he will stand after the snap, giving up leverage. … Needs to use his hands more consistently at the line to free himself to make plays or to bull rush his man into the pocket. … Doesn’t have many pass rush moves. … Must be more consistent pressing after the initial pop.

I really hope Knighton wins the starting DT position
I know he’ll probably eventually step into that role, but I want him to own the position from the get-go. Let Rob Meier get back to his situational role and give Knighton breathers, but I want us to have both lines shored up BEFORE we play Indy. We need to start this season out right. Same goes for Cox. We could have up to 5 or more starters by the end of the season from this draft alone, if all goes well and no injuries hit beforehand. Best draft I’ve seen in a long time.

5 starters
is about right. And all of them may even make the team.

maybe
i think the only one who might not make the team is Underwood.

With his upside
Most people are figuring he’ll be a practice squad project.

he could be a gunner

Uhhh...
No. You want people who can really tackle to play gunner. A blown tackle in punt coverage 75% of the time is a touchdown.

Who knows
if he can tackle? There are tons of WR gunners.

I Hear Yah
But they have a Hines Ward type mentality. They are physical. Underwood seems like a deep threat type, who is what, 180 pounds? Who knows, he could be great… but I like Scott Starks and Chad Nkang as the gunners.

I wouldn't be surprised
if he got cut, but he’s not a long shot to make it.
I’d rather have him on tap, aka practice squad.
