Colts: Moore and Mudd officially retire.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Moore and Mudd have made their decisions final.  What was an amazing coaching tandem for the Indy Colts has finally come to an end, and I for one am not crazy about how all this came about.  However, it is time to move on for the Colts, and for the rest of the division to see what kind of continutiy their new OC and OL coach will bring to the table.

With some younger talent on the OL, along with some cagy veterans, time will most certainly tell what will occur in the '10 season.  IMO, the key to the OL success starts with Jeff Saturday.  He is a 10 year veteran who has been the MAN in the middle for Peyton Manning.  No one can discount his ability to make the right calls on the OL.

However, If you look back at the '08 season, Saturday missed the first 3 games of the season with an MCL injury. Saturday opted not to have surgery, and played the rest of the season with a knee brace.  Later in the season, Saturday suffered a calf strain.  But, when he came back, he stabilized the line, and the Colts began a run that lead them to the playoffs.

What does that mean for us.  With the high turnover of coaches on the Colts staff, and the fact that they have some younger OL starting this year... we "may" be wtinesses to the beginning of the end of the dominance that the Colts have had in this division.

Yes, the Titans won the divison last year, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile.  The problem with the Titans, is that they have invested in a QB that certainly is not the future, and their future is not their future.  VY is the most hyped, overated, arrogant, bench sitting, emotional BIOTCH of a football player to come out of the college ranks.  Don't get me wrong, he's a great athlete, but not an NFL QB. Add to that the loss of the most dominant defensive player in the division, and to me that spells disaster. Sorry about the rant.....No I'm not!

Anyhow, where was I,  OH.... the Colts.  Wtih the new OL coach (Pete Metzelaars) and young starters, I see this as being a potential achilles heel for the Colts.  Along with the new OC (Clyde Christensen) change running a close second. I mean We already know they have issues on the DL and LB corps, but with all of the changes (HC, OC, OLC, STC....) it does not bode well.  I don't care if you promoting from within. There is going to be a difference in the Colts.

Here's to hoping the Colts fall, and the rise of the Jags.

Cheeers!

Tony Dungy leaving set off a dominoe effect

I know the coaches are leaving due to the pension situation, but I can’t help but think Tony Dungy did a lot to keep that team together and without him, pow, it blows apart.

At least that is my hope and dream. Please God, send pestulance onto the Colts football team.

I Hate The Colts

But as long as they have Peyton Manning, they will be competitive and above .500. Don’t get caught up in having unrealistic expectations. The Jags won’t make the playoffs, and the Colts will… IMO.

As I wrote

earlier somewhere this site, I’m not cheering anyone for injury, but I would LOVE to see, what the Colts can without Peyton. How far they could go with Sorgi (or else)…

I would really

like to see last years DE’s put a real hurtin on Peyton, like we were expecting last year.

Don't forget

They lost their DC as well. That’s head coach, all 3 coordinators and O-line coach. Gone. Hope is good.

LOL!!!
Yes, the Titans won the divison last year, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile.

Hilarious stuff!

At first I was sad to see Dungy go, but later I thought, no way the new coach will hold the team together like Dungy did. And now more coaches are gone. Hooray! Continuity is the reason why the Colts were so good for so long. Now they are losing coaches, the team is getting older, Harrison is gone, I think “pestilence is hitting the Colts” right now.

Every team goes through an up and down cycle, no team stays great forever. I think this is the end of a great run for the Colts…

Hi guys...I thought I would give you a Colts fan's perspective:

1) Moore and Mudd were going to retire when Dungy retired, but Polian and Irsay convinced them to stay for one more season – without this whole mess with the pension started, they would have have stayed.

2) Barring injury, every guy on the O-Line is in at least his second year. We had alot of rookies there last year, this year they have at least the one year of experience. And Saturday is DEFINITELY the man.

3) The OC Assistant will assume the OC job. I’m not too worried about that. And Peyton is as much a part of developing this system as Moore was. They worked hand in hand to develop it. So, with the Asst assuming Head OC job, we should be good.

4) I do worry about the O Line. I think that all of us do. Right now, that is my biggest concern as the WR Coach will be assuming that position.

5) We’re better off without Meeks, imo. Already Coyer and Caldwell have made some “tweaks” which have made most of us Colts fans very happy. The test will come in the implementation of those changes obviously.

6) Bottom line with the Colts is the philosophy of “next man up” – that includes coaching staff. Dungy would not have left if he didn’t feel Caldwell was capable. All of the guys assuming the new positions are familiar with the system – with the exception of ST coach, Rychelski, but our ST sucked anyway so this is a good thing.

Oh, and if we ever lost Peyton – the season would be over. No way Sorgi could go in there and produce. The closest you guys are going to get to that was last year; at least until Peyton retires. Sorry! =-)

Response to some of your points:

1) if they were retiring anyway then why the speculation of them becoming consultants by members of your own board. To me that sounds like uncertainty creeping in.

2) Barring injury is exactly right. Also, what is up with Ugoh? Sophomore slump or just not cut out for the job. The others should do well.

3) As far as Peyton developing the system goes is surprising. Dungy is on record in his book stating that Moore ran the same offense when he(Dungy) was in college. I also thought that Christensen was the WR coach not the OC assistant.

4) Agree but Metzelaars is not the WR coach. He was the assistant OL coach.

5) no response

6) I think that is the philosophy of all teams in the NFL.

Thanks for the chat, and again, turnover in high numbers is never good!

re-response

1) They weren’t retiring anyway, they were close to retirement and might have after the season retired if Polian hadn’t talked to them, a consultant job would free them up more, they wouldn’t have all their previous responsibilities, which is why many feel they could come back. If they were prepared to coach at least one more season, then consulting for a season or more should be attractive.

2) Ugoh seemed like a sophomore slump, it’s happened with a lot of LT’s that stepped right in (Marcus McNeil big time, Joe Thomas to a lesser extent) he’s a very talented player, but he had pass pro lapses as a rookie and was inconsistent all over last year.

3) Christensen was the WR coach and was named assistant head coach after Caldwell stepped up.

point 6

Wrong! Dungy has his priorities straight. Family first. He was leaving regardless.
