Around SBN: Tiger Woods Makes His 2012 PGA Tour Debut

Finally - Film on Derek Cox

Star-divide

Somebody may have already posted this, but here is a highlight clip of Derek Cox.

What I saw...In most of the clips, athletically he looked like a men among boys, especially on kick returns.  He ran through several arm tackles, and looks smooth.  He's tall and lanky, and I think he may need to add some muscle or he'll be abused by the more physical NFL receivers.

His picks came off mostly badly thrown balls.  I saw a couple of heads up plays.  He looks a little raw, but I see a lot of potential there.  If he does end up starting in a couple of years this will be a great move by the Gene.

He dropped the ball

before he crossed the goal line. Something Jackson did earlier in the season and in high school.

i dont know how to do it on mac….save those comments for later

I looked at it

over and over again and I’m not entirely sure if he really let go early. When you initially pause it when he crossing the goal line it looks like he’s dropping the ball behind him short of the line, but just before that he pass the ball in front of himself from his right hand to his left probably breaking the goal line in the process. Second when he looks like he flips the ball out of his hand backwards, he actually pulls it back down and forward before he actually lets go of the ball. It’s hard to tell, but you have to fill in the blanks because the picture rate isn’t fast enough.

and the angle

but it was enough to laugh for a few seconds, not at him, just that it was never caught

I thought it was funny that you noticed

Hey. Who knows? Maybe he did get caught. Though I don’t think thy have replay at that level.

Yeah, I saw that

the very first time I watched the video, however, I didn’t think he dropped it too early. Initially, I wondered, but then I concluded I thought he was good. It was close though.

Hmmm...

I’ve gone back and edited my post, but it’s still showing up with just the URL…

Here’s a screen shot of Cox “DeSean Jacksoning” the ball.

Why would you do that?

I don’t understand. Just hold onto the damn ball until you know you’re in the endzone.

Thanks for the link

I’m so glad someone finally pieced together all those clips. The one thing that really concerns me is how often he uses his shoulder to take out someone’s legs. I’m afraid that in the NFL most guys will able to bounce off of that shot if they see it in time. All he has to do is wrap up the legs in those and he has them 100%.

I have one word:

WOW!!!!!
He is the the future starting corner of this team, if he plays like that in the NFL for us, I have no question about it!

Great highlight reel on Jaguars.com

Check jaguars.com in the multimedia. There’s a longer highlight reel that shows him in coverage. Love it. The guy is a ball hawk.

I'm excited too but...

every college player looks great on their highlight reel.

I mean, that’s why it’s called a highlight reel. We’ll know if he’s for real by how quickly they move him into the #1 spot when training camp comes around.

On a side note, I always find it tough get excited about individual performances during this time of year because you really can’t judge your own players objectionably. I mean, is Cox really good at covering or are the WR’s just not good at separation ? Was it a great read by the DB or a bad pass by the QB ?

Very excited for the season… although I plan on enjoying the summer first.

Cox is the real deal

I’m not trying to call him the next Deion or anything, but it’s rare that you see a CB become so dangerous after he intercepts the ball. You can see that he knows how to get it in the end zone.

And actually some players highlight reels suck or are just average, every highlight reel isn’t great. I repeat, it’s rare that you see a CB do what Cox does once he picks off the ball, and I love how physical (and fast) he is. I think that’s why the Jags wanted him so badly, most CBs aren’t big, physical AND lightning-fast (i.e. Malcolm Jenkins).

The Jags have to return to that bust-you-in-the-mouth defense we used to be known for.

I agree

I downgrade a lot of people, even on their highlights. I’m not too high on Jennings like some people are, for instance. You can see potential on film. Speed, hips, technique etc…

one knock from the film

he’s going to have to wrap up better…he hits pretty hard but bounces off of guys…he can get away with that at w&m but not in the nfl

by jlana24 on May 4, 2009 12:31 PM EDT reply actions

wrap up sometimes. Just got to make him do it consistently. He’s more physical than I was expecting when he was getting off those blocks.

Good look

this guy looks good. Have a feeling Gene did the right thing getting him and all the haters out there are going to be eating crow

But he

transitions well. I don’t think it will be an issue. At the very least he’ll be able to act like a receiver on those long passes.
