Friday Afternoon Q&A/Open Thread

I'm painfully bored at work.  Anyone want to talk Jaguars football?  Anyone off work already?

I can tell you this, I'm working for the weekend...

How's the football league?

Does your season run opposite of the NFL season?

Torry Holt is our number one as of now

Hey, do you guys wish we have kept the all black unis for primetime games? Or did you hate them?

by Blair72 on May 8, 2009 4:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

personally

i wish we could have the all black outfits for every once in a while. maybe just prime-time games or something.

who knows? maybe they’ll be back and the jags are keeping it a surprise.

by abeaugh on May 8, 2009 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the all blacks rocked

i retired my black Matt “COKE” Jones jersey…

Everybody knows when he's coming to town
They're locking the doors
And they don't make a sound
People want him dead but he won't die yet
First he's got to live
With all the things that he did

I don't like them

There has to be some teal in there somewhere (and not just in the sparkles of the helmet)

by acedarney on May 8, 2009 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

First off...

Teal is beautiful. Second, Do you see any of the teams with a long heritage, ditching their team colors to wear all black? Could you see Green Bay or the Cowboys wearing all black?
Prime time games would be the worst time to wear a different uni, because it’s the only chance a small market team (like us) has to promote themselves. Maybe I have sipped the kool-aid, but I feel Wayne is right on the money here, stick to your colors and create your identity. Also, I am not straight haten’ on you because, I own a Black Big John Jersey, but I totally see the Jags point of view on this one.

by FanofJag on May 8, 2009 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually

I thought that the black during prime time games was becoming part of the Jags heritage. It seemed to me that everyone I knew realized the Jags real color was teal but they liked the black uni and liked the idea of marking important games with it. I know what your saying about established teams changing their style, but I thought that for a team just starting out that having that special black out uni was part of building a tradition.

by jstnblke41 on May 8, 2009 6:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

When did I EVER say anything about ditching the team color?

I’m just saying keep the all black uniform for a couple of games a season. It doesn’t even have to be for the primetime games, but if you haven’t noticed that’s when they would wear them in the past. Thus, that’s why I wrote my comment as such. So, what you call the “worst time to wear” the all black is when in the past the team did in fact wear them.

Mine was a teal Mike Pete

But it switched to a teal MJD. Hopefully I’ll have a new one before next season starts that has the new design.

In other news

The dolphins named their stadium “LandShark” stadium, after the beer brewed here in Jacksonville. I guess this was jimmy buffets great idea, but it doesn’t make sense to me. I thought sharks ate dolphins and dolphins really hate sharks? Anyways they are going to have a Margaritaville there now, that should be cool. Why can’t we take all of our covered seats and turn it into something cool like a Margaritaville? Ok the offseason really sucks…

by cliff1982 on May 8, 2009 4:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

that would be

really sweet, didnt know landshark was brewed here, hmm learn something new everyday, oh and a group of dolphins would kill a shark, seen it on the discovery chanel, they really dont like each other

I think

Considine is supposed to be our starting SS. Williams is staying at RCB, according to Del Rio.

Just dropping in...

To touch back on the jersey thing…I really like the all black uni’s as well, but i think with wanting to establish an identity, primetime games would be a prime time (pun intended) to show off the identity and get it into the nations mind. It just seems to me like wearing the all blacks would be a step backwards with these new uniforms…thoughts?

I was

thinking the same thing.

by Ewdtrey on May 8, 2009 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Personally,

I kind of like the receiver line up:

  1. - Torry Holt
  2. - Mike Walker
  3. - Dennis Northcutt

If Mike stays healthy, our receivers are about 1.5x as good as last year’s

by sgillespie on May 8, 2009 5:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Because we have so many

unknowns at WR this year, I think he will stay for continuity and because he knows all the positions. But I think he’s gone after this year.

Isn't Northcut due..

a nice sized salary increase this year?

if cox, where does starks fit in?

Starks

is the first NB. I think Williams should be part of our big nickel packages for those teams that have really good receiving TE’s.

Williamson is in bigger danger to get cut before the season starts in my opinion.

DONT HATE HIM

Mainly I just feel that he is in danger of going away IF the team feels that his spot on the depth chart can be upgraded.

Is it just because everyone else thinks he’s awesome, or do you have a legitimate reason?

I

watched him during the east west shrine game and i thought he was the best player on the field by far they threw it to him when they where in the red zone every single time. it seemed like every QB on his side of the ball wonted to throw to him because they knew he would come down with it even if it was a bad throw. even the anouncers where blone away by him and when the anouncers said he had 60 TD at RICE. i thought he was going to be the best undiscuverd WR by far in the draft thats why i like him so much it was way befor everyone els even knew his name. so no i dont like him because everone esl likes him.

Sound Legit

It just seems like everyone jumped on the guy. He was a 5th rounder. But I see what you were saying. If you followed him before the draft, that makes sense.

I think Jarrett Dillard

is a guy that not alot of people knew about. I didn’t know anything about him. But once Surteal wrote up that column on him, I got to look at some of his videos and interviews and watch him run routes, then yeah, I jumped on the bandwagon. Let me note this, though. I didn’t jump on the bandwagon solely because everyone else started liking this guy. I like him for my own reasons. The guys runs great routes and he can jump like no one I’ve ever seen. He plays two feet taller than he is. Is this important? Yeah, to me it is, because the guy doesn’t seem to drop anything. Isn’t this waht we’ve been missing? My only concern about him is how will he do against NFL corners who jam him. Will he get thrown off of his route and be ineffective or will he thrive in competition? I think the guy plays with alot of heart, and I think he will improve in those areas that are lacking. I see this guy not making a whole lot of impact this season, but making the final roster. Eventually this guy can be a number one if he keeps improving. Maybe Mike Thomas will have more of an impact this season, but keeping a guy like Dillard around makes too much sense.

I also think Williamson needs another shot. I think Northcutt gets the short end of the stick this season. We just don’t need him anymore.

by Blair72 on May 12, 2009 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Training camp and OTA's

will answewr who deserve another shot on the receiving group. If I must choose who will be cut now it is Williamson. But he deserve a shot at OTA’s and TC. Competition is always good!

I'm more a

Teal Jersey guy cuz thats the Jaguars colors, if you think teal is ugly, which i don’t think it is, try magenta or that white and pink dallas cowboys tony romo jersey, eeeehh. I thought that if you wore black jersey they absorb thermal energy from the sun more, because lighter colors reflect the waves, you’ll get more hotter, thus more frosty beverages. Tho Vic Ketchman says thats bunk…
