Jaguars' Tice happy out of the spotlight | Jacksonville.com
Great interview with Mike Tice. Biggest shocker to me, he hasn't gotten a single interview since coming to the Jaguars

Who are the five starting quarterbacks on the hot seat in the NFL?

Jaguars' Henderson can't take the heat | Jacksonville.com
A little more than a week after the tolerance level of Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio reached a boiling point with John Henderson, the veteran defensive tackle was begging his way out of the heat during Thursday's practice.

My Hot Seat List

I don’t know how Matt Cassell isn’t on that list. He still needs to prove he isn’t a one shot wonder at the NFL level. He’s got Dwayne Bowe, but thats really it; and even the potential filled former LSU star doesn’t have near the talent of Randy Moss and Wes Welker, or even Jabar Gaffney. Plus, Kansas City’s offensive line may not be as good at pass blocking as New England’s. Cassell had his share of sacks, but he wasn’t experienced in stepping up or bailing out of the pocket. I also don’t see why Kansas City felt they needed Cassell. They got him and Mike Vrabel for only a second, but I think Tyler Thigpen showed flashed of brilliance and even versatility last season.

1. Matt Cassell: Cassell needs to prove he can step up and lead Kansas City to a few more wins than 2. While the playoffs aren’t in reach for the Chiefs, 6-8 wins should be with Todd Haley at the helm. Cassel won’t have the talent level that many, including myself, think got him by in New England. Can Cassell live up to that nice deal?

2. Donavan McNabb: A season removed from being benched, McNabb has maybe one last shot at a Super Bowl. It looks like the Eagles have the buildup for one more run; but can McNabb get it done. While not having a T.O. type playmaker, the pieces are in place around Donavan. Reggie Brown, Kevin Curtis and Desean Jackson, along with Jason Avant and Jeremy Maclin make for a good receiving corps. And the high pressure 46 defense in Philly has shown no trouble in stopping teams and getting favorable field position. Donavan needs to make it happen.

3: Jason Campbell: I personally don’t think he should be on the hot seat, but Dan Snyder does. Yes, I do wear blue and burnt orange sun glasses when talking about former Auburn players, but Campbell is a great quarterback in my opinion. He doesn’t turn the ball over, he can scramble, and he is accurate. And when given the chance, he has shown he can launch it deep as well. It should also be mentioned that he has been through seven different offensive systems in his college and pro career.

Despite all of this, Snyder still isn’t patient, and seems to want to get deep into the playoffs. Campbell needs to get this team deep into January, like the article said.

I don’t believe that Cassell is on the hot seat in a manner it is make it or break it. If he has a bad season I think he will have another shot. However I think the QBs listed are in a make it or break it time.

First

Thanks for the links John.
About this “which QB in a hot seat?” thing. I must say David is on it a bit, BUT I think he has all now, what he neeeds. He now has a healthy O-line, which can protect him, and boost the running game. And now he has receivers as well.
He must prove now, that’s true, that he is the QB of the Jaguars, and I belive strongly he will prove it this season.

I only wish if Garrard is the QB of

the Jaguars, we would of known earlier while he wasn’t pushing into his 30s.

Garrad in the hot seat? Not so much..

i dont think Garrard is in the hott seat as much as MOST of the sports media outlets write about. They tend to forget the horrible protection that Jaguars were plauged with during that season. No doubt people will be watching him.. i personally consider THIS upcoming season to be his true test to see if he is worth the money. If his work ethic is as strong as his positive attitude to improve and want to win – he will be fine (and i beleive it is)

Makes me wonder,

if the sports writers can ignore the obviously sieve-like O-line from last year, how many “bad” QB’s from around the league are actually pretty good, but have problems around them that we don’t hear about. No one outside of Jacksonville seems to remember what our O-line went through last season, nor do they take into account almost our entire WR corps being fired for various reasons. If they were any good, would they have been fired?

I don’t believe Garrard even needs defending, he’ll show that once the season starts and he has some semblance of a line to work behind. Along those lines though, are these other “hot-seat” QB’s in similar situations that we just don’t hear about?

Just a thought.

I can think of a few off the top of my head.

Chad Pennington, Leftwich, Jason Campbell, Kyle Orton, Charlie Frye, and Kellen Clemons all got shafted by the media at one point or another for reasons out of their control. They might not be the most talented, but they took more heat than they deserved.
