What if? Looking ahead to 2010
Ok so its been a month or so since ive posted, my bad work has sucked, but I read an article on Whatifsports.com and it got me thinking. Article: http://www.whatifsports.com/beyondtheboxscore/default.asp?article=2009NFLASOUTH . The article predicts that the Jaguars are going to go 5 - 11 again this season and the reason for this is our defense. Though this is only a projection and we all hope we do better then 5 - 11, lets say for a second though that our season does end up like Whatifsports projects. Our biggest concerns would be our defensive line and possibly DB and we would most likely have another Top 10 pick. What direction does Jacksonville go in? Do we continue to keep David as QB or do we draft McCoy or Bradford with our pick? Do we focus on rebuilding the defense to its former self? Does Del Rio keep his job? I personally think we are going to go 8-8 but I am curious to see what people thought of this projection and where it would leave the state of the franchise.

10-6
i say we draft QB if its there, do not trade up, if not there go DL if value isnt there then trade down, because i think there will be alot of value in the draft next year, especially at the QB position
Brown Kid
9-7
In first round I would hope to get either Ndamukong Suh or Gerald Mccoy, both are top tier DT. I would of traded Big John somewhere for some picks, then in the 3rd round if i don’t have a second still, i’d get a QB like Tebow for instance. Then with the rest of the picks go BAP.

And Possibly trade Lemon
if i could for 3 or 4 round pick(s)

i think we do the same thing we did this yr with a top ten pick
try to trade out if we cant get value out of the pick. or get BAP who would hopefully be a QB or any pos other than LB on def
one thing i found funny(or maybe im just reading it wrong) but when the article said something about even if Holt has 100 rec 1000 yds, it would still not help the team move the ball passing as good as a game breaking wr. Idk about anyone else, but if Holt puts up close to a 100/1000 season, I could easily see us have a top 10/5 offense
hell yeah
if holt does that then we’re in business.

Absolutley
I don’t think Torry will, but if he did, along with Mike Walker and JD, our offense could at least put up enough points to get an 8-8 record. Though I don’t desire to win games with poor defense. I like a top ten defense and a balanced offense.
Look at what Denver did. Worst case scenario I don’t see our defense ending up as bad as Denvers, unless injury strikes at linebacker and DB. Denver still got to 8-8.

Yeah, but
They had the 2-14 Chiefs and the 5-11 Raiders in their division. The Chargers took that division w/ 8-8. I don’t think we could be that lucky.
Speaking of the wide receivers
did anyone see that pass Garrard threw to Mike Thomas during the opening of Total Access yesterday? That was a nice long pass.
Yeah
Garrard can throw deep, just hasn’t had anybody to throw deep to.

yea hopefully we can pull an indy
win games during the reg season with the off and then in the playoffs somehow the defense gets nasty and wins the superbowl.
garrard has huge arms, he can get it there
Now to the original question,
Draft a QB that early, let him set a year, trade garrard in the next off-season.
That’s my plan. do not plan to sit there next year and do not plan to need a QB.
Bradford over McCoy due to Bradford’s insane accuracy-that’s my vote
or we could just draft a QB in the 4th or so and play Garrard in 010 and 011 and then said QB comes in and bangs it home……we would hope
Surreal to be Teal
I like both ideas
and not that I think Bradford is perfect, partially because he holds on to the ball too long and he isn’t very good on the intermediate dart passes, but he is far and beyond the best prospect on the radar right now.
i'm wary of anybody who holds the ball too long
I feel vindictated by watching Leftwich throw

Nah Man
Jevean Sneed seems like the best prospect to me right now. That dude can play.

7-9 and I'll do back flips IF we can break even in the division!!!!
The defense is the week link now (assumes O-line improves). Garrard’s issues were more a product of no O line and thus no running game, coupled with having the worst WR corp in the league – they couldn’t get open and couldn’’t catch. A legit critism of David from last year was holding the ball to long. I happen to believe that Garrard is an above average QB but lacks supporting cast. Hopefully that improves this year.
Next year’s draft should certainly focus on Defense, especially D line.
Coming into this season, we just had way too many holes to be filled by one offseason. O -line was the priority and Gene addressed it. A 2-3 year rebuild is much more realistic.
Draft
For sure the first two picks are QB and DT, maybe someone from secondary if no one else is available from the other positions, its just a matter of which is first.

9-7 or better
We will get at least 9 wins this year depending on the Defense. Last year we were in every game at least till the 4th quarter and usually lost due to the defense giving up a score late in the game. When our defense gets back to being nasty which could be this year , but I still think we need a dominate dt or 2. The offense should be better than last years with the additions we made thru the draft. Oline should be greatly improved. Wide receiver had a major overhaul and at least in the OTA"S looked better. Running game should take off due to oline being better. So we may surprise quite a few teams this year

I'm Not a Fan
Really, of Bradford or McCoy. McCoy seems like a good West Coast offense quarterback; but I don’t see Bradford being too good at the next level. I’d rather take Hunter Pike from Cincy, like Ewdtrey mentioned above, or wait a year and take Josh Nesbitt as a developmental prospect.

9-7, with luck
One thing I have learned from living here is that this city will not support a loser. If the Jags have another season like last year, or close to it, Del Rio will be fired. Even if it’s not completely his fault, this city will cry for someone’s head and Wayne Weaver will have no choice but to placate them or risk losing the franchise, which might happen anyway (further down the road, of course).
I agree with that thought
Fans are not always cool headed. I think it kind of sucks, because the fans might be hurting themselves trying to get what they think they want.
first 6 games are key
If the Jaguars can get through the first 6 games with 3 wins or more than they will be around 8,9,10 win season, but anything less than 3 wins out of the first 6 games then they will have a similar season to last year and I would think that would bring the end to the Del Rio era in Jacksonville.
