I'm Sick of Ignorant Fans

I post this out of frustration, because I am sick of stupid fans saying stupid things.

"jarnette77 (6/2/2009 at 7:19 PM)

Report Violation the jags will get the qb thing right next year when the prodigal son will return; timmy tebow will soon be trucking afc south linebackers. tickt sales problems? a thing of the past. anyone who actually lives in jax knows exactly what i'm talking about. the problem is not the number of football fans in jax, its the number of jaguar fans. if the jags can tap into the huge gator fan base filling the stadium won't be a problem. and SILENCE all you tebow haters, he will be much better than david garrard. i remember garrard at east carolina, do you? not half the player tebow is now, but a comparable skill set. i'm just sayin... " It made my head hurt.  Draft a player because he'll sell out the stadium because he's a local guy?  That has to be, without a doubt, one of the stupidest posts I've ever read.

UPDATE: Fanaticism isn't always a good thing.

jarnette77
(6/4/2009 at 3:12 PM)

i repeat: if you think its "idiotic" to draft a player who will sell tickets, you're either extremely naive or extremely stupid. you sound like you read too much "ask vic". hey buddy: vic ketchman gets paid the same no matter what city the jags are playing in. he doesn't care about keeping the team here. spare me with all your geeky "bap" garbage.

winning alone is not enough to sell tickets in jax. that was proven last year, when we were among the conference favorites and only sold out 1 game. I DON'T CARE WHAT THAT SAYS ABOUT THE FANS IN JAX. I DON'T CARE WHETHER WE "DESERVE" A TEAM OR NOT. I JUST LIKE HAVING ONE AND I WANT TO KEEP IT.

and enough with all your fla/tebow hating. of course a huge percentage of jaguar fans are also gator fans, the campus is 60 miles from jacksonville municipal. you don't like it? tough. pick a new team to root for. if you think tebow is merely a "good...overhyped college football player" then you have let your hate cloud your rational thought. he is a GREAT, HISTORIC college football player who has the SAME SKILL SET as garrard, except he THROWS IT MUCH BETTER THAN GARRARD DID AT EAST CAROLINA.

"best available" or not, the jags should draft tebow for what he will do for the franchise ON and OFF the field. he'll be the 1st great one from fla, just like p manning was for tenn, favre was for so miss, etc.

Depending on how hard the NCAA looks into how he got court side seats to the Eastern Conference Finals, we may get him this year ;)

Seriously though, if we draft Tebow, that’ll quickly be followed by me pounding a few Cuervo shots down to make me ignore all the ESPN talking heads.

Hmmm

Did Fred Taylor, Mike Peterson, Dee Webb, Bobby McCray, Mike Pearson, Reggie Nelson, Derrick Harvey and Drew Miller do anything to help the ticket problem? Nope and if they can’t what makes these idiots think that drafting another Gator is gonna make a difference? Make mine a double please.

In Fairness To Tebow

He is way bigger at Florida than any of those guys mentioned were. However, I still don’t think him coming to Jax will fix the franchise, unless of course he wins a whole bunch of games.

by TheHammerOfSpicer on Jun 4, 2009 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

All I can say is… I don’t think Tebow is going to make a good NFL quarterback. Period. He’s a great guy off the field, so I do hope that there’s a position that he can fill in the pro’s. And there will be much, much more talk about him for the next year until he’s drafter by some other team. Great upside? Yeah, but at what position and (more importantly) at what price?

Plus, (last thing, I swear) we’ve all seen just how untrue it is that drafting a Gator (or pretty much any other “local” college star) will bring in huge amounts of new fans. Ain’t gonna happen. Ever.

OK, one last point. Really. My thoughts usually end up as… Work with the guys you DO have, make them better, keep them motivated, and you’ll have a good team at some point. You cannot be concerned with players you MIGHT have. Not productive.

Alright, I’ll shut up now. Time to hang with my gnomies (short friends, j/k).

Oh ya that will solve ticket problems

Wait, it won’t. Getting one player in football does not affect ticket sales.

And the dumbest thing that most people do (including myself at times) is fall in love with a player and convince themselves they are a first ballot hall of famer before they step on the field.

by jstnblke41 on Jun 3, 2009 9:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

completely disagree, and i just realized it for the first time.

Does anyone on here think that Lebron James going to the Knicks won’t change ticket sales?? C’mon people, although i hate the tebow talk and think he’ll ruin our franchise.

by harveyismyboy on Jun 5, 2009 4:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I Agree There

Once a player is proven as a pro, there can be drastic effects to a team’s ticket sales. The Knicks will go up, and the Cavs will drop, especially with them not making it to the finals in the first place.

Go Magic.

I'm a little worried about game 2

Everytime an NBA playoff game ends in a blowout the next game is never good for the winner of the prior game.

As for the series, I’m very confident that the Lakers got it in the bag. Phil Jackson’s teams are 43-0 at winning the series all time when they win game 1. It’s all over or as a very very wise man would say: it’s in the refrigerator, the door is closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling, the butter’s getting hard, and the Jell-O’s jigglin’!

Basketball is a little different

If Lebron is on a team, no matter what team, they will make the playoffs and could contend for a championship. If the best football player of all time, no matter who you think that is, played for the Lions last year, they would still really really suck.

Word Up

Thats totally true. In basketball, you don’t need a great supporting cast to succeed. That can be completely opposite in football. For example, I always thought Aaron Brooks had “potential” to be a great quarterback. But he never had one in New Orleans or Oakland. Now he’s a housing developer…

I think the Cavs were revealed in the playoffs though, as their role players struggled to get involved throughout the whole Magic-Cavs series. Mo WIliiams couldn’t get in the paint, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas was really handled well by Dwight Howard. I think if they could have gotten Delonte West more open threes, they could have run away with a few of those games.

I did specify in football

basketball is a whole different animal, one player can drastically change a teams fortune. Not to mention football gets 40 thousand more people showing up on game day. The amount of tickets a single football player sells is far more insignificant then other sports.

Why do people think drafting Tebow will do anything for ticket sales?

The novelty of having a Gators fan favorite drafted to his hometown team will wear off by preseason. The only positive in terms of economics would be more exposure, or maybe convert a few Gators-only fans. I’d like to see Tebow play for the Jags because I think he’ll be a good quarterback, but come on, these people are making him out to be the savior. Honestly, if Brandon Spikes and Tebow are both available, I might have to take Spikes.

Everyone is like 2 sides of the exact same line

Even tho i am a big tebow/gators/jaguars fan, drafting Tebow wouldnt help ticket sales unless he won us loads of games. Saying this, i think its ludicris to say you would want brandon spikes over Tebow. We got certainty at all LBs. We are have versatile Lbs to cover each other, but behind garrard who is in his climbing 30s, we got nothing great. I am so fine with spending a 3rd pick on Tebow. Tebow can learn, and he’ll be like MJD, he wouldn’t fight you for every last dollar. Let him do rollouts, screens, and pass action plays until you think he’s ready. He could fall or bust like any other Qb but you shouldn’t label a guy as a automatic bust just because you don’t like him or the gators, or based on what analyists say. When have they ever been right? Certainly not about the Jaguars.

With or without Tebow

The way to fix the ticket sales problems is to win. Period. Do these people think that the stadium would be full if we went 0-16, but we had Tebow? Hell no. They would turn on him just like they do anyone else. I wouldn’t mind drafting a developmental QB. I thought we would this year. I wouldn’t mind spending a 3rd rounder on him, but I think he’ll go higher because he’s overvalued.

Why does everyone hate on Tebow? Is it because he doesn’t have the skill set to make it in the nfl? If so who are we to distinguish what his skill set actually is? Is it because homers and totally undeducated football fans want him just for the sake of having their gator on the team? Do you not like his haircut??? What is it.. I think he’s got some great physical attributes and is a hell of a leader. The only thing I really take away from him is the offense he’s playing in. Noone seems to give him a chance and I’m betting he’s hungry to prove some people wrong. I’m not saying he’s a first or even second round pick but he’s got some upside. So anyways, what does everyone hate about him?

by kickandsnare07 on Jun 5, 2009 2:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Things I hate....

I hate the hype. I hate how seemingly ever Jag/Gator fan has been talking about drafting him since he was a freshman. I hate how Jag/Gator fans just want more Gators on the Jags. We miss out on alot of draft pool talent because of stupid signings. I don’t think we should have drafted Nelson. We should have taken Brady Quinn in my opinion, and I’m not even a Brady Quinn fan. It was just dumb to pass on him twice when he was clearly the BAP in my mind. I hate how the talk can’t seem to ever end about Tebow. It was the same with Chris Leak. What happened to that fool? According to Bestjagfan, he’s playing CFL. Maybe he hasn’t even made it in the CFL. Regardless, like Vic says, there are good football players outside of Florida. Expand your horizons. If he fits on the value board, take him where his worth indicates. But witha drafted Tebow, the Jag/Gator fans will begging to start him week one. I prefer to avoid that whole situation. Let him go to Tennessee. Then I can be happy when we bury his facemask into the dirt.

by Blair72 on Jun 5, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tebow

I wouldn’t warrant reaching to take him for ticket sales or any of that crap. I actually agree on the Brady Quinn thought. I thought it was crazy last year to let him pass twice. If you can find a young qb like that falling into your laps not once but freakin’ twice do it up.

by kickandsnare07 on Jun 5, 2009 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Totally agree

Signing him for what? Yeah this team neeed a QB soon. A REAL QB! But now it seems to me the 1st round choice of the Jaguars will be most likely a DT next year in the 1st round, and with that I think The Tebow question is out of perspective: I totally agree with the Reggie Nelson(and maybe we can say Derrich Harvey’s name too) point. But luckly the jaguars are in an other era now.

If he’s the BAP when it’s our turn at bat, then I say take him. I like the Gators, but I like the BAP playing for the Jags more, regardless of what college he played for.

by nineohfour on Jun 5, 2009 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think he's overhyped in terms of his college production.

He’s become one of the best college players ever. I’m a Florida fan, but I agree that many local fans need to tone it down. Support is fine, but some people just get too out of hand. I disagree on Brady Quinn. I think he will never become anything more than average. Honestly, in Quinn I see another Marc Bulger or Derek Anderson, someone who can achieve above average production with play makers in support, but fails on his own. That also reminds me of Matt Leinart, but there’s no doubt I’d take Quinn over Leinart. In regards to Reggie Nelson, I would have preferred LaRon Landry, but he was gone, and I think Nelson will perform up to expectations.

by Kbot on Jun 5, 2009 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tebow

I think the guy has achieved alot in college. By no means am I suggesting to anyone to not support Tebow and to not be a fan of his. He’s a good college football player. But the man-love is ridiculous. Its the homers and the guys who just won’t stop talking about how amazing he is and how they are utterly in love with him and his play. I mean, shit, be a fan, but I don’t see and have never seen anyone draping Fred Taylor’s balls the way some of the Tebow lovers do.

It's not just football, B

It’s the man. Who he is, and what he represents. On and off the field. People need heroes in these darkening days. Leaders to mold themselves after. The glorification of hedonism has run rampant. There are very few men who are willing to be a standard bearer in these times. They have no guts, for the fear of attack. It’s because they are scorned by those that are convicted by the representation of the Light. My admiration is for what he does and says in an era where men are ostracized and vilified for making a stand. You, Blair, are one of those men throwing the stones. You don’t know the kid on a personal level, yet you have professed your hate for him. After that you stated that men like me, “hang from his nut hair”. You go on to discuss Fred’s balls (and not footballs). Really?! Is that what you’d like me to remember you by? Would you like me to associate that statement to your name, to your face? That’s where we are. You should understand the importance of your words…you are measured and judged by the things that you profess with your mouth. Just thought you should know…

You never said you hated Tim. My apologies…

Vae victis!

by viator on Jun 7, 2009 11:40 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Too serious

Ok, I also believe that we are remembered by the things that we say and write, however, you have to understand some things are written in jest. I don’t dislike Tebow at all. I have never said I hate him or dislike him as a person. I believe he provides kids with a positive role model to emulate. I wish him all of the best. However, go back and reread everything I wrote, and get my point for what it is. It’s the fans who have made me dislike the idea of Tebow being a Jaguar, nothing else.

So I said something about people draping nut hairs. Should I put my thoughts into words as though I’m writing a dissertation? It’s a blog site. It’s freedom of expression through writing. It’s contributing ideas. It’s blatantly obvious you tried to prove your level of intellect when you wrote the above comment, and while I site here and agree your lightbulb’s not bad, what’s it prove? Do you really care what I have to say, sitting here over a thousand miles away?

Get back to Jaguars football. I’m over the whole Tebow convo. I didn’t join this site to be pressured into feeling conviction over my words.

P.S. When the hell have I ever thrown a stone at Tebow through the words I have written? Maybe thrown stones at the fans who are already stirring the koolaid. By the way, who am I measured and judged by? God? Then I would say yes. I’m pretty sure God doesn’t get mad when I say nut hairs though.

I do care

What you say, no matter the distance. I value you, believe it or not. You were speaking of the fans of Tim. I am one one of those fans. I’d love to see him on the Jaguars roster, because it would expand his platform of influence. Would it be great for football? I don’t know, I hope so. But for me, that’s less important than being a shepherd. However, I won’t lose sleep if he’s not drafted at all. Because it’s more than just football. It’s about courage.

When I said you’re measured by your words, I meant you were forging my perception of you specifically. Do you care about my perception? No, obviously not. C’est la vie. I don’t speak for God, but I doubt he cares if you gab about “nut hairs” to your heart’s content. It’s not a very meaningful topic. I’d like to think he’s focused on something of substance. As far as you throwing stones, it’s ethereal, I doubt you’d understand. Is this the place for such talk? I’m sure most would like to avoid it. Oops.

I apologize if I’ve offended you. I often misrepresent myself…with a harsh hue of the color I try to paint. That’s counterproductive. I’ll work on it. I appreciate your point of view. I just felt that I fit the mold you were forming. So I took your words personally. I tried to ignore your initial statements…In the end, I couldn’t resist. I gave you some of my attention. That’s how I roll. I’m all instinct and aggression. I do feel we’re both better off having had this dialogue. Can we forgive, and not forget?

A history

You could care less about. I’ll share it anyway. As far as proving a level of intellect, I feel I have little to show. I dropped out of the eleventh grade to go to work. Between the joke of public education and the disfunction of my parents, I had few options. I started making money and never looked back. With education in my rear-view mirror, what little intelligence I display is by the grace of God. I’m self taught. I place value in wisdom. That’s what I pursue. The intelligentsia? I’m not a member. I’m not your peer. I’m still a pupil. I have a lot to learn…

I haven’t been keeping up with this site lately so I haven’t read anything you’ve wrote. I don't hate anything about him.

He’s amazing at the college level, but I don’t know if I would risk a first round pick on him. I’m a huge Tebow supporter, and I think he’ll be fine. However, I think he’ll be available in the second round. Basically, I want Joe Haden, Brandon Spikes, and Tebow, but that’s not really possible. I would like Spikes in round 1 and Tebow in round 2. For everyone that talks about how good our linebacking corp is, blah blah blah. Well, BAP doesn’t care about what you think, and need based drafting is no longer the Jags modus operandi .

by Kbot on Jun 5, 2009 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Let me clarify.

I would not risk a first round pick higher than mid-twenties on him. Since I suspect we’ll be drafting around the 17-22 spots, that would be too early. If we draft later than that, then I’m all for drafting Tebow, especially since he’ll likely be BAP.

Too bad we don't have a 2nd round pick

even though it looks like we’ve invested in something alot better than a 2nd. If we do any trades with any certain players then we could get some more picks. But my point of the post is compare what you traded for (Derek Cox) and what was available at that spot last year to see if you got the better part.
