"Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Eugene Monroe, chosen No. 8 overall, said hearing Wiley and others speak bluntly about their personal choices, regrets, anxieties and temptations sent a better message than deciphering media reports about Vick, Burress and other players. Even so, Monroe said he has followed the demise of Burress, Vick and Stallworth and that the opportunity for redemption is a 50-50 deal that could be prevented, even if there is nothing more to redeem than a missed block that resulted in a sack.

"A lot of times, guys end up in the wrong situations, whether it's being in the wrong place at the wrong time or making poor decisions," Monroe said. "Seeing those things play out here and in real life lets me, and hopefully others, realize that you really don't want to get caught up with those things."

Another reason why I loved this pick over Crabtree, BJ Raji, and others.

Ok, let's just do it right now.

Rename the Jaguars the Jacksonville Choir Boys.

Not that that’s a bad thing…

I think it is different than that

Intelligent dedicated football players. The Jaguars were always a dumb team drafting dumb players. Dumb on the football field and dumb off the field. I don’t see Choir boy and intelligent the same way. A Choir boy can be dumb just not someone who gets in trouble. An intelligent person simply chooses their life’s path better.

I think Eugene Monroe is an intelligent mature guy didicated to his profession.

Hmm

I agree with Terry on this one. When i look at Eugene i see someone who is going to be one of the main leaders on this team for years to come much like Ray Lewis is to the Ravens or Westbrook is to the Eagles.

I do believe that Gene made a smart move here that will benefit the Jags for years to come

thats my opinion what is yours

Oh I'm in agreement with you Terry.

I was just saying it’s nice to have actual professionals and not immature players such as Reggie Williams and Matt Jones in the pros.

i hope he’s a good leader too… BUT… no offense, Eugene… he hasn’t done anything to show he is a leader, nor has he had the time in underwear practice to prove anything… but, like i said (which some people will ignore, i’m sure) i certainly hope he turns into a solid rock on the OL for a long, long time

If nothing else

Better than Crabtree’s facepalm worthy quote of “I learned how the NFL drug tests”

"The worst kind of non-smokers are the ones that come up to you and cough. That's pretty cruel isn't it? Do you go up to cripples and dance too?"-Bill Hicks

I remember when ESPN jaws hit the floor when we passed on Crabtree

I think Gene is showing some very astute talent evaluation. We will see, but Crabtree isn’t a guy I will root for. I am very glad he is somewhere else.

i laughed so hard

if you missed it,
they asked what he learned at the NFL rookie symposium. the first thing out of his mouth was about the drug tests and stuff…

then he said he was going to go back and practice with his eyes closed or something stupid i didn’t get
