JDR on Hot Seat
I wanted to pass along an FYI to the BCC Nation. The NFL Network had an editorial type piece (Prime Time Deon Sanders pontificating) that Jack Del Rio is one of the coaches on the proverbial hot seat this seasn. The teams inconsistency was touted as a most probable reason. Given that this specific topic was discussed on this site nearly a month ago, I thought those that do not get NFL Network might be interested. Some on this site (meself included) have begun to question JDR. When you consider the up and down nature of this franchise over the past 5 years and especially the dismal divisional record, it would seem that a national media spotlight is beginning tp shine on the Jags coaching staff.

JDR didn't help himself with last season
It’s very simple for him, improve or pack your bags at the end of the year

coach can only coach the players he is given
Look at the first round picks and free agents JDR was given by Shack Harris. Nobody could have coached that bs. He is a good coach and deserves at least 2 years under Gene Smith who clearly has a plan. He will win if given the talent.

i feel bad for todd monken, WR coach
yeah, i give JDR two years
i still feel the “retooling” this season buys him this year and unless it’s abysmal he’ll be back

Sorry to disagree, but
A coaches job, as any manger, is also a motivator, not just play caller. I’m in JDR’s corner this year, but if he loses control of the team again like last year, he has to go.

Thats true for almost any coach
Most of your NFL coaches can win if they have great talent. But what makes an even greater coach is the ability to win and do it consistently with the players that he has. JDR has not been able to do that, he has not been able to get the most out of what he has to work with. He has underachieved every year besides 2007. The numbers speak for themselves, 1 playoff win in 6 years. going to the playoffs twice. Its been like spinning your tires with him, once They start going they start to spin again and go nowhere. Thats what it been like the last 6 years. It all comes down to how you coach them and have them buying into to the system, so if he doesn’t get it done this year he will be on his way out.

I hear the gripe...
who’s better? But really I wasn’t too familiar with Gene Smith until he took over the reins. Now I love this heartless bastard. I hate recycle coaches… just hate ‘em, makes me feel like they couldn’t get the job done somewhere else (Cowher left on top), and let’s face it, no coach has made a very successful transition from college to direct head coach position… maybe Lombardi and a few others, but there’s got to be a gem out there somewhere. No… I like crazy Jack’s style, but you got to motivate your team. Let’s see if it were a few bad apples last year, or if he just doesn’t have it. I hate this outside the locker room stuff too. Discipline behind closed doors. Jack’s pretty big, get in the guy’s face and yell!

I'm don't want him to go yet, butt...
Mike Shanahan and Bill Cowher are available. Last time I checked they were pretty successful and consistent to boot. However, I’m not calling for JDR head. I think 2 more years and we’ll go from there. Gene is giving him the talent that he needs to succeed.

I like Shanahan
He was a good coach who had sometimes a lacking run defense and was brilliant when it came to special temas or Rbs. He could definately fit here, since we are a run first mentality kind of team.

JDR is going to go one day
probably not in the near future. Also some of the coaches out there are Bill Cowher, Mike Holmgren is there, but he might be retired. Thats just two from the top of my head.

JDR
Needs to be given some more time. He didn’t help himself or the fanbase after last season… but this team looks like it could be a serious contender with a few more solid drafts, and the most important thing for the younger guys could be stability in both coaches and schemes, including staff, philosophies, and all general offensive and defensive goals.
I now conclude my huge run on sentence.

JDR-Cheaper to HIM
I saw the NFL Network, Total Access comment and at the end Dukes reminded everyone that JDR has 3 years left on his contract and Weaver would still have to pay his contract if he were released. Thats why JDR is NOT going anywhere for at least 3 years. I think that gives him (JDR) enough time to turn things around. GO JAGS!
