David's Offensive Line Wall

The_oline_wall_001_medium

That is Brad Meester handling John Henderson on the left, Mo Williams in the middle and Tra Thomas containing Derrick Harvey on the right.  This is David's blind side protection.  When you consider Vince Manuwai, Tony Pashos and Eben Britton are available and "He who doesn't work here yet" may someday come, we are locking in on a solid offensive line.

With Marcedes Lewis developing as a blocker, all we need is a couple of downfield threats to break this offense open. I don't think 2007 was a fluke in terms of scoring. I think Dirk Koetter can develop as an Offensive Coordinator.

Koetter can do it....

But the source of his success must come from the OL…..

If it is so good as most of us think it is (The OL), then even without the downfield threats Koetter should be able to open up these offense, with the existence of a running game…..

But all must come from a consistent play from the OL opening spaces for the Rbs, and protecting David………
If that’s the case the offense WILL BE dominant…….. as 2007 proved already…..
You add to that a top WR, a potencial Top WR and a group of young Wrs that seem to have great skills then this offense should return undoubtedly to the 2007 shape….
Dominating the clock, scoring with relative ease and most important, transforming the precarious YAC from last year to something more close to what the WR group averaged in 2007………….

Doing that will make this team look really dangerous…… Even last year with all the problems we had….. we managed to deliver a 4th Q lead in 8 of the first 10 games…… Our D sucked and couldn’t maintain a 4Q lead ever……(just against the Lions) all of our first wins came because of great last minute drives…..

But if our offense returns to the shape where it monopolizes ball possession, it makes easier the job for our defense……

We don't need Walker

he has yet to prove himself as a wr, the only thing he has proven is that he is injury prone. What we need to have a high scoring offense is a strong o-line. Oh and if anything Holt will be more of an asset then Walker ever will be, this season at least

interesting, but i have to disagree until i see someone prove themselves, at least for one game

I want you to know that I am really behind our draft class, but Walker put up 100 yards on the best pass D in the NFL. (Steelers)

So until I see someone prove for a game or two. I feel that we need Walker.

I’m hoping Troy W can prove it. He would be a great complement to an old torry holt

I think its possible to go to playoffs with just

MJD (Presumedly the #1 RB), Torry Holt, any number of our rookies, and Garrard. However i don’t think we’ll go to playoffs this season.

maybe I'm going out on a limb here

but I think that although our offense will be great at TOP and long drives, I think our offense will be better at big plays this year. Therefore, don’t look for the long drives like the Jags had in 2007. I’m thinking because of a more balanced attack, opposing defenses will be more spread out thus leading to more big plays overall. This in effect, obviously, leads to shorter TOP. Get our defense to step up their game, and we might even run up some scores.

If Holt pulls through, and we get some good rookie play from the receivers, I don’t see how the Jags couldn’t produce more points. Our offensive line is so stout at this point that our running game will be clearly better. It will be obvious. Look for a dominant performance from MJD. That’s my prediction. Strong running game leads to more opportunities in the air as the defense sneaks more guys into the box.

I think the Jaguars' problems...

in the passing game mainly stem from the lack of a solid veteren receiving group. We’ve basically had rookies learning from each other for the last couple of years… You can try to teach theory to a kid on how to swim, but unless they’re truly gifted, they need to learn from someone that can actually swim.

That being said… with Holt on the team, unless he bails into retirement early (ala Jimmy Smith), I expect our receiving corps to greatly improve in the years to come. I only realized this after watching some unknown receivers make some great plays during a few preseason games on teams known for good receivers… namely the Cards & Steelers last night.

but notice

In 2007, our mediocre receivers looked miles better than they did last season. We actually had a passing game in 07. Last season, with no line, the shortcomings and underachievements of our horrible receving corps was magnified and clearly obvious. No running game means no passing game unless you’re the Patriots. With the running game, the offense opens up.

there was a passing game....

the thing was that the YAC was basically nonexistent……………..

Add 3 yds of YAC to last years numbers and you have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL

Exactally!

During the Cards & Steelers games I kept seeing receivers catch & make moves for YAC as opposed to our receivers for the past couple of years, who would catch & immediately fall down. I just think we’ll be getting a more complete receiving corps starting this year.
