Eugene Monroe Update: Jacksonville Jaguars "on verge" of signing

Adam Schefter of NFLN and ESPN is reporting via his Twitter (yeah, I know) that the Jacksonville Jaguars are "on verge" of signing Eugene Monroe.  This was a forgone conclusion after the signing of Defensive Tackle B.J. Raji by the Green Bay Packers.

Sounds like the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to deliver some good news today. They're on the verge of signing 1st rd pick, Eugene Monroe.

Raji recieved 18.5 million in guaranteed money, setting the market for Monroe at somewhere around 20 million guaranteed.

More to come as it happens.

Maybe he can get a few days of camp...

before playing with the 3rd string on Monday.

Loved this ending paragraph by Mike Florio!

Mike Florio of Profootballtalk’s ending statement on the verge of Monroe’s signing:

“Our guess is that Maybin will come next, and that Smith and Crabtree will move in together and become the subjects of a reality show, with Crabtree attempting to rehab his foot
while Smith tries to eat it.”

LMAO!!! Had to share!

Yeah, because Tra was only drafted #11 with 11 years experience

Sorry to be so pissy, but I think Eugene is still going to have to fight for the job. Taken a pay cut and going through camp is going to go a long way for Thomas. Plus he doesn’t strike me as the guy who will just step aside for the youngster. Tra will probably be happy to play this year and be resigned to back up next year and ride it out till retirement.

Oh I agree with you, I wasnt saying he would start by Game 4 or even this season because Tra pretty much has that wrapped up but I was just saying that its going to take till then just for Monroe to even have the ability to start.

When "He who doesn't work here yet" shows up

I wonder if Quentin Groves will have another nightmare. That poor guy can’t sleep now.

I dont think his nightmares....

Will be any worse than the ones Tra gave him…..

Tra is a beast against the rush…… I don’t think Monroe…. right now….. is near Tra’s level in pass protection at all……….

Glad to hear this!

I don’t expect him to take the place of Tra Thomas before mid-season at best, but his future as a football player still benefits from getting into camp NOW.

Anyhow .... it's good news

He needs to be with the team, he should learn from mistake Harvey made….

New reports say Raji only getting...

little under 18M guaranteed instead of the 18.5M guaranteed, per Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal. This is great news & helps Jags justify their offer a little more. I’m glad more teams are taking a stand this year in regards to contracts!

Finally

With Tra Thomas havin a great camp we can ease our two new tackles into their careers we now have incrdible depth at the position and i could not be happier with Gene Smith’s first draft

And it shows that we can get people signed pretty quickly

Even when Oak and Al Davis made a “Screw you all” bank manuever and pays outrageous moo-lah. All Hail Emperor Gene.
