Vic is wrong.
Hello again Jaguars fans. Sorry about the hiatus, but excessive speculation makes my soul wilt. That said, allow me to excessively speculate as to why Vic is wrong.
Vic repeatedly states that wide receivers are a dime-a-dozen. He says you can find them anywhere. Waivers. Practice squads. Undrafted. Yet, are you getting the feeling that the Jaguars could be roundly beefed and soundly talented this season in most areas...except for the passing game? Evidence of such a notion comes to us firsthand from local media. Reports from camp bring details of the drops. Of wideout hamstring pulls and ankle injuries.
While I can comfortably speculate (after a hefty sip of a Nyquil-Robitussin cocktail) that our defense will be surprisingly rigid, and our offensive line will just say no to thugs, I can't help but worry that we have pocket change for receivers when we need cash money. Holt will be a star. But these rookies, and the real man who deserves the prefix Fragile (M. Walker), have the weight of our offensive progression in their hands. And sweet Marie, let's hope they catch it, in bounds, all season. Such is the course of our quest for the AFC South.
And hey Vic, can I borrow ten cents?
Go Jags.

I agree with some of what you say, but respectfully disagree in others
I do not share your optimism with our D – quite the opposite, I think the D line could be a real sieve and they certainly have not (as of yet) demonstrated any kind of a pass rush. Stopping opposing O’s will be a challenge to say the least. Another off season or 2 are needed.
I agree with you – Mike “Big Limp” Walker’s propentsity for injury does not inspire any confidence that he’ll produce this year or at all. Williamson is a classic 1st round bust and those expecting great things this season must completely ingnore his actual production on the field to date – I’m not drinking the cool aid until I see consistent production on the field (like a whole seasons worth in his case). I do however, believe that we will find at least one receiver out of this group (hopefully more) with which to build around.
I also agree that our O line will be improved, but upgrades are still needed (center and guard).
I’m 50/50 on Vic on the whole. I am in complete agreement with Vic with regards to attendance and support for this team.
I agree with you
The D Line needs work, but i think the Offense will be much better than the Defence this year. I don’t think we’re in alot of trouble about our WRs because i tihkn Torry looks good, Walker ehh he’ll prob get hurt again, (I never was high on him) and then a rookie willl step up to be #2. I think Tiquan Underwood will be a good quick deep threat, Jarret Dilliard should become an okay-good possesion Wr who can catch the ball in the endzone, and Thomas could become a slot guy. As for Vick when it comes to facts, I listen, when he starts talking opinions i kinda zone out.

Assumptions.
Fun. Fun. Let’s hope Monday will be fun. At least for one quarter. As far as OGN goes, the defensive line will most likely not be a “sieve” although that is a slight possibility. That position has a received a slight boost of youth and a much needed year of experience for D. Harvey. Let’s hope the University of Tim Tebow has actually produced an NFL player. I know that’s a long shot but, they’re sucking the energy out of our ticket-buying fan base, so the least they could do is give us an overdrafted, lanky DE who actually performs.
And to TheTealDeal, I love the “could be” and “will be” stuff, but let’s see some catches, in games, when it matters. The receivers you mentioned certainly have body types analagous to your suggestive play styles, but in game production is really what we’re waiting for. Until then, I have to rely on Vic. They’re dropping some important balls. And Thomas is sharing tea-tree ointment with Mike Walker. Field. Game. Truth.
Soon.
The Teal and Black are comin' back!
Thats all fine and dandy waiting for solid proof
As for the dropped catches, they’re rookies and thats what rookies do. Preseason is where you transition from college to NFL, I think they’ll prove themselves during the regular season. Have faith, we have alot of football ahead.

Rookie wider receivers
They need to prove themselves sure but national draftniks agreed with our picks and think we got good value. Dillard is playing with a toe nail being ripped off and I don’t know about you but if you can play perfect with that kind of pain I think you are god. Mike Thomas got that hamstring pull in OTAs so here is hoping he heals up soon and then we will see what we got. Tiquan Underwood I doubt will make the team on the main roster I see him going to the pratice squad to give him a year to bulk up alittle. Williamson needs to get the boot but I think Mike Tice is trying to justify the pick from years ago and it willbe interesting to see what Nate Hughes does on monday.
Anyway
Hi again Collin, Terry, Chris and the Apocolypse dude! You know I’m gonna hit you with a review of Monday’s game. Football’s back. Go Jags.
The Teal and Black are comin' back!
Nice to see you back my brother!
Chris and I will be at the game monday night… Jaguars football baby…
I also agree that Vic’s concept that WR’s are a dime a dozen is foolish. The best typically go first, bottom line… I know WR’s are more likely to be out of the league than other first round picks after 5 years, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Calvin Johnson’s, Larry Fitzgerald’s, and other top notch guys are gotten early.
The End Is Nigh... www.infowars.com
I'd say WRs are more hit or miss than at some other positions
You can sometimes find really good gems in like Deion Branch, Ernest Wilford, Housh, etc in the later rounds or get Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson in the First. You can also get R.J. Soward or Matt Jones in the first too.

all we can do is wait and see
but for conversation’s sake, my take on finding WR’s is that if your lines are good enough, you can play with mediocrity found late in the draft, but you will not find Calvin Johnson in the 7th round. However, you can find T.J. Houshmandzadeh. It all depends on how well you scout. If we draft big guys for two more years and then take a WR in the first two rounds (similar to TN, minus Pacman and VY) then I would be happy with it. But I would still like to feel more assured about our WR’s.
That said, i love dillard. Production cannot be ignored and the guy caught 60 TD’s, I believe. I also think Crabtree was worth a late 2nd round pick.

I guess I "love" Dillard too...
…in that sort of you’re a dude, I’m a dude kinda soldier way.
But I’m not so sure I love reports like this coming from training camp:
""He struggled this morning," Smith said of Dillard, who may have hit the rookie wall. The good-hands wide receiver from Rice is battling a bout of the dropsies.
You love that? Are you from Nashville, Surteal? Don’t lie.
The Teal and Black are comin' back!

nice try. I’ve been with the Jags since they started. granted i was 9 or 10
I love Dillards potential and feel that by mid-season he can be a solid receiver for a rookie. I was the one that started the hype on here for Dillard and is still feel that it was grounded with reason. But I do not expect him to blow people away immediately. I am excited to study him Monday, along with Garrard, who I like, but who i also want to prove himself.
But i want to thank you, arthardie, for providing a counter-argument. That doesn’t always happen.

You should expect your i guess 5th round Wr to struggle a bit
After all he’s a rookie and there’s probably a reason why he wasn’t picked in the first day. Have faith, patience is a virtue.

A couple of questions for you...
1) Who are the best 2 receivers the Jaguars have ever had ? When were they drafted ?
2) How many first round draft picks have the Jaguars spent on WR’s ? How have they worked out ?
Vic wrong, what?
All I know about Vic’s draft opinions
1. Berate anyone who hypes a SEC/ACC player
2. Hype any Big 10 player

As for wide receivers
Usually, it is a waste to draft one in the first round, unless you’re looking at a physical freak like Randy Moss. That being said, you can’t find a #1 wide receiver off a scrap heap.

Even randy moss had his problems

Jimmy Smith?
Steve Smith? Everyone the Patriots had before Randy Moss? Antonio Bryant? TO? 3rd round or later or the scrap heap.

Here's my bit
I’m not sold on Mike Walker, and I have no expectation for him to be any better than last season. I have never went with the hype this offseason that he’ll be any better because that fool can’t stay healthy.
All we need is one rookie receiver to really step up. We usually only play with two receivers at a time anyway. I really like Tiquan Underwood’s chances. He’s been in position to make big plays from what I’ve read time and time again. He just needs to make sure he catches the ball on a consistent basis. Dillard will be fine. I’m not sold on Williamson. I think he will get cut. That’s pretty much everything I’m thinking at this point.
I’m excited to see how the receivers perform tonight, but the bulk of my attention will be on Harvey. I want to see if he gets good penetration. At least get the quarterback scrambling out of the pocket, make some nice tackles for loss.
I also want to see if Garrard
can lay the ball in there when Torry gets open deep. Can Garrard provide the home run opportunities if a receiver gets open deep? Will he even see them running wide open if they’re not Torry Holt? We shall see.
i'm more amped for Dillard than any of them
that said, i expect more from Walker and i want Dillard to give me reason
And williamson is pricey, he needs to show value. i fear for the worst for him. we could be KC south

Vic is RIGHT!!!!
WR do come a dime a dozen, and to add to that with size and speed with hands…….BUT if you have a coach that dont like to open up the passing game with PASSING PLAYS thats more than 3 yards down the field, Hell no WR would look good with this PLAYBOOK unless of coarse he can block…….Think about it we havent had “ANY GOOD” WR since TOM was our coach……another thought for you to think about…..Del Rio was a line backer, he wants to see smash mouth football because thats what he likes….Tony Dungy was a DB, he wants to see high flying passes because thats what he likes……etc, etc alot of more coaches I could name but you get my point…
