Brian Williams & Tony Pashos, cut & benched

I know it's only preseason game #1, but the play of these two guys last night irked me to no end. So, I gotta get it of my chest.

What I saw was an extension of their last season's pathetic performances. I hate to say it, but I think Mr. Williams should go. Derek Cox would do no worse and he has all the upside.

Tony Pashos should come off the bench as a reserve. Eben Britton should start.

In my mind there is no question here. And if you want to blame poor D-line play, ie, no rush, then you still go with Derek over Brian cause we are rebuilding and don't have the high expectations we'll have next year. Give Derek the year of experience.

When the stadium lights come on and the games are for real, these two guys seem to completely lose focus. Send in the rookies anytime.

Don't you think you are getting a little excited?

They’ve only played one preseason game, and everyone is giving up already…

I agree

But….Pashos really does just suck.

Pashos, if you’re reading this… sorry, but you suck.

I can't say that I am...unfortunately

I listened to the coaches say how Tony has picked it up this camp, and how he really rose to the challenge. Then he gets in a game situation and reverts back to making the same errors he’s made in past seasons.

If he was “taking it easy” cause this was a preseason game then his attitude just isn’t right either.

The team has enough things to work out. These guys are professionals. We don’t need seasoned vets making recurring errors like this.

Bottom line…I don’t trust these two to perform any better this season than they did last season, or even in this first preseason game. Harsh yes, but I’m almost willing to bet on it.

And I’m not giving up, I just don’t think we need Mr. Williams, and Mr. Pashos is no better than second string. These are the two guys I’m calling out. They need to put up, or sit down.

Ok man

I agree that Brian W didn’t play that great the other night, but by no means should he be cut. That would be a dumb move. I like our depth in the secondary right now. Keep it that way.

Brian williams...

Has underperformed ever since he got out of the purple uni…….

He has underperformed his salary, his potential, his versatility…….

And its not just one preseason game, he has gradually gone from bad to worse for the last 4 years, going back to his last year as a viking.

Pashos job

is on the linne since Britton was drafted. Ifd he plays like on Monday, his days are mumbered as a jaguar.

Brian is a good CB who has a bad day. Give him a break!

Thanks

(I saw how many typing errors just made in this small message)

By the way our drafted rookies are getting more and more injured:
This is from Vic

“Meanwhile, rookie running back Rashad Jennings has been added to the injury list. Jennings wore an ice bag on his left thigh during practice on Wednesday. Wide receivers Mike Walker (ankle) and rookie Mike Thomas (hamstring) and rookie cornerback Derek Cox (groin) were also held out of practice.”

And this is about Zach Miller at Rotoworld:

Jaguars sixth-round TE Zach Miller is expected to be out “for awhile” with a knee injury.

Beat writer Michael Wright expects the Jags to try to hide the speedy rookie on injured reserve. The converted QB is an interesting long-term project, but he wasn’t going to contribute much as a rookie.

For me this is a concern!

A better play would be to move Pathos to RG as an upgrade and start Britton at RT

With the exception of a healthy V Manuwai – the entire O line needed upgrade / replacements coming into this season. We addressed the tackles in the off season but I still believe we need upgrades at center and RG. Pathos may fill the bill there – but as RT, I’m not feeling it.

I think you may be right

Pashos has that bulky frame you need in at guard, and he knows how to pass block. Get him to learn to bulldoze people and we’re in business.

def.

agree to that, we got depth as far as really good back ups, but we dont have really good starters in the gaurd or center position, agree that v. manuwai really good when healthy

No start Monroe at RT...

Britton at Guard.
Thomas at LT.

Agreed

Pashos needs to go. I’ve been saying it for a while now. He’s just not good enough with the depth we have now. Cut our losses as we did with everone else this season.

P is for Patience

I’d like to be able to cut pashos, but I’m not convinced the Eben is an upgrade just yet. I think that Pashos has to be this years RT patch.

by sgillespie on Aug 20, 2009 12:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yes and no

I think Williams needs to be moved from corner and give Cox the start. As for Pashos he is a good player, he has just been a bit off. Even if Pashos has lost his starter stat. then he is a great back up, hell Britton is the future and even if he isnt the greatest is year we still have Tra to fill in.

i like williams but i think pashos is a joke...

he’s trash i mean fuck we’ve gave him like three years an he still doesnt perform as well as we expected.. put monroe on one side Tra thomas on the otherrr… possible britton at guard i like britton but i think monroe is a little better right now…

Patience for Pashos?

How long does it take to figure out the play call, especially when it was said 10 seconds earlier in the huddle? As for the holding penalties, that means he is being outmatched. I can excuse lack of skills, but penalties will kill the Offense over time. Don’t expect him to make less at guard. Demote him!
