Backup QB

I Don't want to bore you guys but..........

I’m still wondering if Paul Smith was injured???

If we wasn’t I just can’t believe the team gave up on him this fast.
His performance in the scrimmage was Ok, his first Pro-game wasn’t as bad if you consider the state of the game he went into…… I mean, he slips with the mud in that last throw to the End Zone and still managed to place a nice ball.

When your backup is completing barely over 33% of his passes and attempting over 20 throws, why wouldn’t you let your 3rd string have a drive or two??? I understand receivers dropped many passes, but you cant deny that many of the dropped passes where initially bad thrown balls.

I hope he gets some playing time, I’m not sure he’s going to beat out Bouman, but i rather see that the backup earned his spot even against bad competition than watching the backup inherit the spot without a fight.

I believe

Bouman earned his spot last year. And he, to me, looks better than Smith. He probably knows the offense better, and he obviously has a bigger arm. He also fits our system better. Smith is a throw it around type, which is not gonna happen with him in there.

not sure

but vic is dropping info that the jags will look for a backup qb once cuts have been made. i expect that bouman will be cut, smith will be on the PS, and we will have someone else. possibly the odd man out at arizona.

I don't know

that Bouman will be the odd man out. But I expect us to go after another back up QB too.

What About

Troy Smith.

Well he didn't look

good tonight. In either case, I don’t think the Ravens are going to let their second best QB get away… I highly doubt they trust Drew Willy to be the back up.

Ha

Guess you were watching that game too. He didn’t look great tonight, but I saw the guy have some nice games two years ago as a rookie once the Ravens season had hit the fan. But yeah, I wouldn’t be comfortable with Drew Willy as my backup either.

Jake Plummer FTW

???

Leftwich will get cut.

That Johnshon kid from tampa looked pretty good.

Leftwich isn’t getting cut. He’ll be the starter opening day, and if he stays healthy he’ll be named comeback player of the year.

Leftwich looks mediocre at best.

Freeman will be the starter. Leftwich will be cut. McCown will be the backup.

All four of their quarterbacks look mediocre at best. Leftwich is the best of the bunch though. If Freeman is the starter opening day, I’ll eat my hat.

Leftwich will stay

He’s too valuable to let go.

Backup QB

A. Draft a Quarterback with 3rd round pick or picks from trades (if we can)
B. Pick up a reasonable decent backup that was cut
C. Trade for a player by trading a player(s) or pick(s) (Hopefully not unless if it was good value player for player).
D. Garrard stay healthy enough were it does not warrent use of backups and pick up a backup QB in Free Agency.

A is my favorite long term
B, Is short term
C is hopefully not in the cards
D possible if not very likely

You'd

Have to ask him out of retirement… though I must say the thought crossed my mind once or twice.

Please remember that it is LUKE MCCOWN in TB… not JOSH MCCOWN! lol….

AND, Luke will start the season as the starting QB for TB. Dennis Dixon won’t be relased unless hell freezes over in the next 2 weeks. QB Tyler Thigpen could be one. :)

I wrote Luke the first time, before my comp crashed. I like Thigpen a lot, but he doesnt fit here.

by Ewdtrey on Aug 25, 2009 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions

He doesn’t, but i still like him. Did you see EVERYBODY on ESPN calling him Josh MCCOWN? It was hilarious…
