Eben Britton to start at right tackle on Thursday. Tony Pashos moves to right guard. Looks like one of two things and maybe both... Eben Britton has won the position, Vince Manuwai isn't back all the way yet. My opinion is running to the right will be a joy to watch now, Eben Britton leading the way sounds right to me.

Fantastic news...

Great in every respect. Tony is utter garbage and he better show up at Guard or he’s toast. You don’t pay a back-up his salary.

I'm happy as well...

if you gonna draft 2 OL with the first 2 rounds of the draft, might as well get them in there sooner than later. Maybe it will light a fire under Pashos and he will kick ass at right guard.

by Jaggernaut on Sep 2, 2009 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

I heard they also discussed ...

that Monroe would start at left tackle and that Tra Thomas might be released, which makes no sense to me. Anyone else hear that?

by ruffdaddy on Sep 2, 2009 2:45 PM EDT reply actions

What?!?!

That’d be crazy if the did that! If any thing, I think they’d at least trade him for a good backup QB… even then it’d still be crazy move!

Did not hear that at all

Tra Thomas isn't making anything

What are they saving by releasing him as opposed to the experience they gain by keeping him?

by Blair72 on Sep 2, 2009 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

He's worth the money for sure

What happens if Monroe gets hurt, just put Tra in and we’re still fine.

Championship!

Haha j/p Best way to learn is through experience! Theory only takes you so far… Hopefully he doesn’t get called for as many holding calls as Pashos, but if he does I won’t be as mad… this year at least.

If they released Thomas...

one injury would put us right back where we were last year.

by Jaggernaut on Sep 2, 2009 3:21 PM EDT reply actions

Did not hear Eugene Monroe was starting

and have not heard he has beaten out Tra Thomas. I don’t think he is ready.

But he is more ready than Andre Smith and Michael Crabtree.

I laughed hard

when I heard Andre Smith had fractured his foot & came in like 15lbs overweight yesterday. Didn’t help with the comments people of PFT were making as well. I’m soooooo glad the Bengals took him over us… though I’m not sure if we would’ve taken Smith if Bengals had taken Monroe. Who do you think we would have drafted if Monroe was off the board on our pick?

Wayne Weaver said the line needed fixed

So I am guessing it would have been Andre. Thank you Mike Brown.

Vic said today that it would've been Beanie Wells

So either Mike Brown saved us from the Andre Smith disaster (on a side note, I now realize I was wrong to so heavily promote him this summer) or he saved us from an Ohio State disaster (still don’t trust him or his durability).

If Vic was drafting it would have been Wells

The people we were projected to pick were

Crabtree, Monroe, Andre Smith, BJ Raji, Malcolm Jenkins, Beanie Wells, or the 2nd best DT behind Raji.

No one ever

get’s to see the real Coaches’ value board. It’s Vic’s opinion, but may still have been on. We’ll never know, because the coaches won’t ever say. Not even to vic.

Great news

and I hopr the Tra thomas rumour is just a rumour. That would be a giant mistake let him go. He is the security on that position!

I just heard

via jaguars.com on the Jack Del Rio Show, Mike Tice confirms that Pashos is starting at RG on Thursday and Britton is starting at RT. Also, Andy Heck confirmed that Monroe WILL start at LT on Thursday.

by ajagsbeliever on Sep 2, 2009 5:25 PM EDT reply actions

Then Who's at LG??

If Manuwai isn’t back yet……… is it a battle between Uche an Mo??
Or is it Uche who starts and Mo sits behing Pashos?

by jaxjags.. on Sep 2, 2009 9:55 PM EDT reply actions

Uche for now...

I think Uche will get a lot of burn because he’s more of an unknown at this point.

I got the impression that Mo is seen as strictly a versatile and reliable backup, he’s also spent some time at centre this year, so I think it’s Uche’s to loose.

by alsonot on Sep 2, 2009 10:35 PM EDT reply actions

Uche started LG for the Miami preseason game

So I think you are right

Manuwai at LG

LT – Thomas
  C – Meester
RG – Nwaneri
RT – Pashos

Im not good with OL tactics and positions but....

why dont we start Thomas at LG if we are starting Monroe at LT? Is there that big of a difference between LG and LT that Thomas wouldnt be able to move over and perform well?

I don't think Thomas is stumpy enough to play guard.

Tackles are usually taller, quicker, top heavy guys, while guards are squattier, bottom heavy guys. Tackles move left and right to keep ends in front of them, and away from the QB, while guards are usually meant to drive people back.

by Kbot on Sep 3, 2009 2:05 AM EDT up reply actions

You're right on pretty much

Think of it this way. Guards have to match up with people like Albert Haynesworth. Do you think Tra Thomas is going to push an Albert Haynesworth off the line of scrimmage and get a good surge forward to make a hole for MJD? Kterr, Tony Pashos is a guy who has the size to move to guard. Tra is tall, but he wouldn’t make a good guard at all.

by Blair72 on Sep 3, 2009 3:30 AM EDT up reply actions

I've always wondered...

Why has no team auditioned sumo wrestlers at guard? Many of those guys have the measurables that NFL teams look for in guards in strength, quickness, height, and weight. Furthermore, they’re trained to drive block for four or five yards, have a great understanding of leverage, and they have excellent technique with their hands.

by Kbot on Sep 3, 2009 3:52 AM EDT up reply actions

But they are also EXTREMELY huge

On a different note though, that’s why you see alot of O-Line from U of Hawaii. Hawaiians, well alot of them, have that natural build that’s fit to play on the line.

by Blair72 on Sep 3, 2009 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions

That's what I mean.

Perfect build for the interior line. It seems that many successful sumo wrestlers are also Hawaiian, and the current trend is recruiting Mongolian wrestlers. Mongolian lineman anyone?

One loads up on Pizza Hut and Cici's,

The other one loads up on KFC and Popeye’s. Guess which leads to which.

Hi Paul.

Become a Bigcatcountry reader? We’d all love to see you stop in and say hey. On a different note, I have to say that if Pashos is equally as horrible at guard as he is (and has always been) at tackle, he will be cut.

Wonder who else reads this site? Wayne Weaver? Megan Fox?

Maybe if I write well enough, I could get Megan Fox to buy me dinner…
