Jacksonville Jaguars Wide Receiver Nate Hughes is released, Troy Williamson out for season.
From Pro Football Talk: A League Source tells PFT that the Jacksonville Jaguars have released Nate Hughes, who dropped two consecutive touchdown passes in yesterdays game against the Cardinals.
Wide Receiver Troy Williamson is out for the season with a shoulder injury.
In theory, this means that Mike Thomas and Jarrett Dillard will get a chance to play against the Texans on Sunday.

I am VERY happy about this… and I think this shows something about our GM… As I said in another post, the hammer has to be swung and it has to land somewhere! This is what Nate hughes gets… Sorry, but you can’t drop two TD catches and be ok…
I dont like the fact he’s out of work, but he’ll catch on somewhere else.

Other WRs put on notice
I bet Thomas & Dillard are practicing their catching like crazy now… Looks like Gene will happily light the fire if JDR or other players don’t want to. I wish we had the Ravens mentality… if they miss a tackle, Ray Lewis makes them do pushups on the sideline before going back in. We’re near Camp Blanding… can’t JDR send the team there for a month?

His season was taken from him. Hughes lost his.

The rookies
Couldn’t do much worse than miss two in the EZ could they? If we’re going rebuilding, and we have to put up with these misfires, let’s at least see what the rooks can do.

0-2, we shouldn't be totally surprised
The team can only get better. You’re right, too bad for Williamson. I can’t wait to see the young WRs get their chance.

We need to start passing more
pass to set up the pass. Pass deep to set up the short pass and run. Pass the short pass to set up the deep pass. Short pass outside to set up the run inside. Just pas it all over the place. We have a very veried set of receivers from the very big guys in Marcedes to the quick guys in Thomas and MJD.

I think we'd start passing more if
a receiver would catch the ball & … but the fire has been lit, so let’s see if they don’t start practicing a little more with more hussle throughout the entire team.

I think that if
Del Rio is canned(BIG IF), I like Mike Tice, but I’d rather have Tucker as the head coach. Something from his interviews, product on the field, and history tells me he could be a good HC. Hey, he’s got more experience than Tomlin did or Josh McDaniels, who’s 2-0.
by Ewdtrey on Sep 21, 2009 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Prior HC
left them a good bunch of players though… though McDaniels kinda messed his group up a bit and still 2-0, which is surprising.

John I hope you are right
but I think Del Rio has been given a pass ths year to let Gene tinker with the roster. I believe it is the fans that control the Del Rio decision and can force Wayne into it. He might hang tough though.

From a May 14 post
But to be very honest, I really think this is the last year for Jack Del Rio. I think Mike Tice is named interim coach before the year is over. We are going to be improving and next year the draft will include a lot of great defensive players. The Jaguars are coming back, just not with Jack as head coach. That is how I see it right now.

I see the only chance to that, if this team goes 0-8 or shows the signs that the whole team quit. There are falgs, I agree. But I think Jacjk will have the chance to freeze his seat. Or burn there alive…

Tucker?
What about Tucker’s defense has impressed you that much in the first 2 games? The secondary that he was supposed to specialize in? You mean the one that game up the worst completion percentage in history last week? I’m not blaming him, but there’s really nothing to make me think he has any head coaching abilities at all.

Zoltan - If fans stop coming to the game
and we start to show 38,000 attend, then 35,000 and the city gives up on the team, something will have to be done. I don’t think it will be a good thing, but it might be the only thing. The bills are paid from people showing up. If that stops happening, it is the only thing.

By the way
Vic has a bad news for you:
In your honest opinion, will Jack Del Rio be back if the Jaguars finish under .500?
Vic: Yes, he will. I have every belief Del Rio will be the Jaguars’ coach next year and I look forward to watching him improve his young team as the season goes on, just as he did in 2003. I won’t ask that you be patient and watch it unfold because I know that’s asking too much, but I’m going to be patient and watch it unfold. It’s what I enjoy the most, watching a young team grow.

And here is one
from your “old-buddy” Peter King which actully likes your idea
• THE DEL RIO WATCH. From Tom Hyland of Chicago: "When does the Jack Del Rio watch start in Jacksonville? If I were a Jaguars fan (which I’m not), I’d be getting pretty tired of this constant losing. I realize he had to deal with a ton of injuries last year, but there’s a lot of talent on this team. What does this guy have — one playoff win as coach of this team? That doesn’t cut it in my opinion.’’
Del Rio is under contract through the 2012 season, so that would be a hard pill to swallow for owner Wayne Weaver, who clearly is more worried about filling the seats than firing a coach. I would say this: Many teams in the NFL wouldn’t fire the head coach during the season with no obvious candidate on his staff to be an interim coach. That’s not the case in Jacksonville. Mike Tice, the assistant head coach, was an NFL head man for five years. And two guys on the offensive staff — Dirk Koetter (nine years) and Mike Shula (four years) — have been coaches at a high college level for long enough so that an interim job wouldn’t be foreign turf to them.
Now you agree with him this time?

Jack has a contract
which is a guarntee that he will do this year-full
But his seat is getting hot. I mean HOT!.
I expected veeeeery bad reviews, and BIG jags bashing but so far I got his one-
Walterfootball:
I’m not even going to talk about the Jaguars except for this – I’ve never seen a more lazy, slow and sluggish team this early in the year in my 10 years covering the NFL for this Web site. Jacksonville has already given up. I’ll have more on this tomorrow.
(I can’t wait to read that "more on tomorrow stuff…)
And i think Mike Tice can turnaround this team this year, neither Koetter, if Jack can’t so, don’t expect that to happen-IF we don’t go 0-8 at half season

if an NFL coach would try to use two quarterbacks in a more college style offense. Could use Tebow and a more accomplished passer that way, would sell tickets if nothing else.

Mike Sims-Walker
if he can stay healthy and keep his head on straight, Mr. Sims-Walker is the best WR on the Jags. Torry Holt can still catch the ball, but let’s be honest, he is scaring no one. I sense a a old-style Texas shoot-out in Houston this week – first one to 34 wins? The Texans defense has looked incredibly poor so far…
