Can someone explain this to me?
Can someone explaine why we have Eugene Monroe at tackle and Tra Thomas on the bench? It seems to me that Eugene will be good some day, but today we have Tra on the bench. Lets win today and mold Monroe for tomorrow.
Okay so now I have to ramble on so I can post this. To me it appears that Monroe is getting beat to often. Since we have Tra why don't we use him?

This is my answer
Eugene Monroe is the future at the position
Tra Thomas was signed prior to the Jaguars knowing that
This season is about a young team that needs to grow for the future so you might as well develop the future. Additionally, Thomas is being paid by an incentive based contract, so the Jags save money with him on the bench.
Monroe is also incentive laden
and I thought I read somewhere that if he plays in a certain amount of snaps or games this year that his contract actually blossoms to more guaranteed money or total amount that becomes slightly closer to what DHB got…
IMO Thomas is hurt… & we just not reporting it or Monroe really is better than Thomas… which is maybe why they extended Black.
In the face of adversity, what you do from then on dictates who you really are...
My view on that...
Yes he is the future, yes he needs experience to develop but not putting our best guy on the field hurts the team. I think benching Eugene for a game or two might help him realize he needs to work a bit harder for the spot. It would be a reality check for him. After cutting two guys for under performing, leaving the second best player on the starting lineup seems like hypocrisy.
The other part of it is Eugene’s development costs everyone else on the offense. How are we supposed to keep Garrard healthy if he keeps getting attacked from the blind side? How is he going to develop a rhythm with our young receivers if he has no time to throw? Garrard looks nervous in the pocket and rightfully so, if he doesn’t have confidence in the guys protecting him the whole team suffers and we will never rebuild successfully.
I know starting Tra won’t change the team overnight but every little bit helps. Lets focus on the success and development of the team and not just one guy. If he can’t cut it on the field, he needs to learn what it feels like to ride the pine just like everyone else. Competition makes everyone better so every position should be up for grabs.
If nothing else, let Tra play special teams in place of Monroe. The way he got steamrolled on that blocked kick was just embarrassing.
Tra is old with a bad back.
He is our just in case. Monroe is better off getting experience. You know even with Thomas at LT we still are at best a 5-11 team.
Last year we drafted Duane Brown
in Houston a 1st rd. Left Tackle, but we would start ephram salaam(not sure on spelling) and Brown would alternate series with him. That seemed better than just putting him out there to lose confidence. Mario Williams will eat him up if he doesn’t have help. Mario punked the Titans pro bowl left tackle Roos many times last week, what chance does Monroe have?
