Who thinks we should....?

...try to trade for someone like Aaron Kampman? He hasn't gotten any sacks for his team yet, with that new defense. He also hasn't defended any passes. However for our team, he could change our whole defense, kind of like a Richard Seymour in Oakland. And because Kampman isn't performing well right now, we can get him cheaply, possibly, and we can get a whole upgraded defense. Not to mention we are about one injury from a total melt down on the DL and ipso facto, the rest of the defense and team.

I know he's older, but he's only 29 and his most recent off season experience with GB's 3-4 will help him to seamlessly integrate into our defense.

A very good question

but the decesion is tough:
Getting a pass rusher, who can actully sack the QB or keep our 5 draft picks in the bank? I vote for the draftpicks!

We could get him for two or three picks, like a 2010, 1st and 4th, and a 2011 2nd.

But unless Clay Matthews can pass rush, GB isn’t moving Kamp. Gene won’t do it, Ted Thompson wouldn’t either. He’s so embattled right now that trading their best front-seven guy would be the death of his career in GB.

ALSO, it takes a while for a player to transition into a system. Richard Seymour played well week one because the Raiders play a very very simple defense. We don’t.

I like your thinking though.

WHY TRADE

for him, when he becomes a FA at the end of the year…?

by floridafalcons#63 on Sep 24, 2009 7:45 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Depends on the CBA

Or if Green Bay Franchises or Transition Tags him.

If no CBA then he will more than likely get transitioned, and then GB would make off with 2 1st rounders from the team that signs him. That’s a lot to give up for a 30 year old (next year).

Ignore the hype; look at the results.

D-Ware...

will be a FA as well…

by floridafalcons#63 on Sep 24, 2009 10:11 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Both

will cost to much to trade for. You may say, well that means we can only keep for a year. Will that be enough until our new draft comes in, but this franchise needs to stay a float till then. Also for reason after a player comes to Jacksonville his value seemingly drops dramatically, which may make him affordable. We also have ability to franchise him if need be, which I believe makes cheaper than D Ware still.

by Ewdtrey on Sep 24, 2009 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I still say we sign; not trade.

by floridafalcons#63 on Sep 24, 2009 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not gonna

argue too much. It’s more of a thought running through my mind than anything else.

by Ewdtrey on Sep 24, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But, I’m confused on what you are saying…
Are you suggesting that we trade for Kampman? (That’s what I thought you were saying.) and my defense was, why when you can sign him after the season…

by floridafalcons#63 on Sep 24, 2009 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Your right

about what I was trying to say. And you might be right about just signing him after the season. I’m just hoping we can last till then is all.

agreed. i have this nervous feeling about an injury or two on defense… and then we’ll implode

Would be wiser

to keep the draft picks I think.

Hold picks

gets my vote. Unless another DE drops I’d keep our picks & just play with what we got… getting him now would just cut into the development of our current DEs anyways. See where they’re all @ @ the end of the year & sign big ticket FAs from there where there will be a greater supply of good FAs.

I'd like to develop

the guys we have right now, but I don’t think anyone’s upside has Kampmans ability, not to mention that Kampan is a technition that can teach the younger guys.

by Ewdtrey on Sep 24, 2009 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Generally you want a 3 man rotation at least

at DE. Well have Harvey, and then a DPR guy in Groves. And after that??? 2 Slower UDFA’s. We NEED to upgrade the position. If at for the very least to avoid another top ten pick.

i agree completely

it would just be dissapointing to lose another pick. but we are at a point where sacrifices must be made

Maybe

trade Henderson while his stock is high, and maybe mix in a 5th rounder to make seem a little more fair. I think he’s got enough 3-4 film now. And it sorta makes since for both teams. Not to mention it will sort of go along with getting younger on defense. And we also have an abundance of DT’s at the moment. (None of which are as good as Henderson, but the drop off isn’t that great)
I’d rather have a 3 man rotation at DE and a four man rotation at DT than a 2 man DE(effectively)/5 man DT(one DT of which can’t even be activated due to numbers).

by Ewdtrey on Sep 24, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Texans could really use Henderson,

Need a big guy to eat up blocks, letting LB’s move easier to swarm the ball. Our DT situation is pretty sad, unless Okoye grows up fast.

By the time the young players on this team start growing into their primes,

Kampman will be out of his prime. And that will be one (or two or however many draft picks it takes) less young player that would be growing up with the rest of the team.

It’s not a bad idea if the Jaguars were actually poised to do much this year. Hey, maybe Gene will chase after him in the offseason when Kampman’s contract expires.

In Gene We Trust.

Sorry but I'm for the draft picks

Ain’t giving any more draft picks, but I’ll trade to get more.

Word

Plus he has a homosexual looking haircut. I don’t think I could stand to look at that for years to come on the Jaguars sideline.

Norwood

If he plays like that the rest of the season, 1st round is probably assured.
