No it is official

If he would go to USC he would lose EVERY chance to go back to the NFL….

He stays at least 1 more year.

He promised Playoffs. If it’s not happen he ’ll be fired and he know that. It i a win-win situation!

Why Delay The Inevitable?

Why are we gonna wait through another year of 7-9, 8-8, 9-7. I don’t see it turning around fully next year to where we overtake the Colts or Texans. They have both have QB play, and we don’t. So what do we do next year when we are 8-8 or 9-7. Another year? We imporved. We are almost there. 7 years of average. Is it all of sudden going to to super and excellent in year 8 and 9? It is time for a change. I hope I am wrong.

by Slawsc on Jan 12, 2010 1:47 PM EST reply actions

I agree. I think this was a good opportunity for both sides to move on with their dignity intact.

Now, JDR has to show some serious improvement [playoffs?] or he should be canned.

I have never thought much of JDR as a head coach, but again, I don’t know him that well.

by NorthLeft12 on Jan 12, 2010 2:26 PM EST up reply actions

Because we don’t have seven years of average. We have about 2 years of below average, 2 years of above average and 3 years of average.

yea

this year we over achieved with a weak schedule, next year could be the opposite with a more talented team but a much stronger schedule

by jags2732 on Jan 12, 2010 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

Very similar

to the Dolphins situation. Better talent, but harder schedule. The difference being, I think their teams was slightly ahead of where ours was going into their second season after their rebuild; and they didn’t even get into the playoffs this year.

by Ewdtrey on Jan 12, 2010 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I agree

but he didn’t exactly help them win a whole lot this year. This year, I would rather have Garrard.

by Ewdtrey on Jan 12, 2010 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah I have still trust on David

BUT the whole rebiulding will depend on who will be Gene’s QB pick for the future for this team.

If the guy is a AaronRodgers-Matt Ryan caliber guy-WATCH OUT!!!!!!

I should be at the Dallas game

So I’m hoping their more competitive than this past season. No blowouts would be progress. Hurts just saying that.

Personally, I'm glad

This is a make or break year for JDR. I’d rather give him this year to prove himself than fire him now and forever wonder what he might have done.

I guess the draft will back that statement up

I’d like to see a year where David isn’t beaten up. The real question is whether he brings most of those hits on himself.

Interesting

That really goes to the position that he has never really developed a relationship with any of the receivers. That, in turn, equates to holding onto the ball and then getting hit more than you should. Goes back to who really is to blame for it all.

all of the recievers were new

so i can see why he had not really developed a relationship but there is no reason why he cant put in more time with the recievers and build a relationship

Now his saying how we can get better.

“We can disguise blitzes better”.

“I’m always open to good ideas.” asked if we should get a guy like Dungy in.

You can disguise it all you want

But without speed it won’t work. Didn’t we learn that this year?

If you are talking about Tony Dungy, I think he is going to be the next USF coach – he met with the players and some of the University staff recently.

I could have sworn Dungy said last week on PTI

that he has no interest in coaching in college. At all.

by Lancers46 on Jan 12, 2010 3:47 PM EST up reply actions

I hope this blurb and you are wrong, but I doubt it:

Also not happening is former Tampa Bay Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy taking the job. Though he addressed USF players yesterday afternoon and told them he met with athletic director Doug Woolard on Sunday, it’s believed Dungy is only acting as a consultant. Still, boosters have said they would like to see the school offer Dungy the position.

They may offer him the position

but he will likely say no.
and what does USF need a consultant for?

For hiring a new coach?

You have your athletic department to do that

your AD should be good enough at his job to find a head coach. Too many chefs in that kitchen.

they’ve never had to do it before. teams hire outside agencies all the time to help find a new coach.

I’m reading now how Skip Holze (sp?) is the leading candidate, but I read this morning about the Dungy angle. Tony’s son did go there before he committed suicide, and Tony lives in that area still (to my knowledge) and has Tampa Bay ties from his days building that Bucs Super Bowl team.

I hated that USF fired Leavitt, but if that meant bringing in Dungy, I will forgive them!

I think Leavitt took USF as far as he could take them

If USF’s goal is to make the Big 3 the Big 4 in Florida, they needed a new guy

We’ll agree to disagree on that one.

I’ll also leave the “Big 3” thing out of it, since we beat FSU this past season and will play UM and a Tebow-less UF this coming season.

Wayne Took a Great Deal of Responsibility

He stated he is the top dog (not his words) and that accountability starts with him. The Jags need to do most PR and ticketing differently than big market teams.

The biggest point, to me, was the comment on how he was embarassed by the attendance problems. He may have not directly stated it but as this is a business the team will not stay in Jacksonville if this continues.

He also does not think there will be blackouts next season. Bold statement.

We shall see

If WW is the business success we hope he is he will be able to change his approach to promotion and ticketing (already doing some of this) and we won’t have blackouts. It all boils down to the fans.

Winning after 7 years of HCing:

Bill Belichick 52-60 vs Jack Del Rio 57-55….

(to be fair BB has a Super Bowl ring in the end of year 7 but…)
