Jaguars Winners and Losers of 2009

So much to say, So much to forget. That's a theme expressed in many ways this season.

Star-divide

Winners

1. Maurice Jones-Drew

Best 2nd round pick in the franchise's history. Maurice lead most of the NFL in touchdowns all season long. He got a well deserved Pro Bowl spot and has solidified any concerns of him as our #1. All he wants now is a more complete team and Rashad Jennings to get the ball more so he could get a rest every once in a while.

2. Gene Smith and his Rookies

One of the most capable and Daring draft classes we've ever had. The majority of the picks are either starting or contributing. I hope he replicates this success again.

3. BigCatCountry.com

Increased Hits and having the backing of Comcast has made this site's success evident. Here's to another good year!

4. Marcedes Lewis, Mike Sims-Walker, and other former busts

They have proved that patience is a virtue and we always need more of it. Whether you can apply their comebacks as what is to come with Quentin Groves and Derrick Harvey is debatable. These guys should become core players in the years to come.

5. Undrafted Free Agents

The Jaguars have a reputation for finding great talent in places where there shouldn't be any. One of this year's successes in the field of UDFA's is Russell Allen who may replace Clint Ingram as linebacker. Expect more of the same after the Draft.

Losers

1. Jaguars Defensive Unit

A Defense once thought of as Physical and Commanding is lethargic and comatose. The Draft and finding good quality will restore this defense. It a league where offenses whip seemingly good defenses, bad defenses are annihilated. I expect the majority of our draft picks to be used defensively.

2. David Garrard

After recieving a contract extension, Garrard has managed the team. This is and isn't a criticism of Garrard. He's seviceable, nothing more, nothing less. A QB should be drafted in the upcoming Draft.

3. Reggie Nelson

After blatantly allowing several big plays to occur, he has rightfully earned the uproar of the Jaguar faithful. Coming out of college he was a known, "Big Hitter". He now resides in the NFL where he has gotten attacked for his patty cake tackles, if you could call them that. I can safely call him a bust.

4. Shack Harris Remnant

His draft picks were bad, and the majority of his Free Agents were too. He lives in infamy, also known as Detroit, the major center of Jaguars refuse.

5. Old Veterans

The Youth movement has claimed many victims, including Fred Taylor. Like a rolling tide, it sweeps over the Jaguars Roster. Imperial Lord/GM Gene Smith and his band of followers expunged the mistakes of Shack and are making good of the promise of talent.

Unchanged/Neutral/Undecided

1. Jack Del Rio

He is who we thought he is. He's an average coach with a defensive mentality who would probably be better off as a Defensive coordinator. However, we can't get rid of him because of his salary, the youth in the Jaguars, and lack of a substantially better candidate. He will most likely stay for another year or two which is determined by if he makes the playoffs and if he goes far in the playoffs. The rumor is he may go to USC but its highly unlikely.

2. Ticket Sales

While this season saw lagging ticket sales, the future looks somewhat brighter. After seeing the full-scale assualt on ticket sales, I hope and can be confident in a more leveled Renewed:Un-renewed ratio. With hopefully another successful draft and the makings for a couple of upsets (in the Jaguars favour), blackouts should be less often. However, that could change if we cannot be contending for the playoffs.

I like Russell Allen. Lots of upside. Needs to work on pass coverage, but I think he has a solid future. Solid against the run. He is one player I will be watching (and expecting) to make a huge leap next season.

I love UDFA's that work out to be contributors

Great article

Losers list:
1. Nelson 2. CLINT INGRAM 3. Interior offensive line 4. Jaguars pass rush (harvey and Mostly Groves) 5. David (but I would rather put him to the 3. category!)
But the winners were the more improvment-Hey 16 rookies; 30 new faces in the end-Jaguars win 2 more games; and wer a legitimate playoff contender until Week 15-16.

Marcedes was a big winner this year.

His big knock against him was his inability to catch the ball cleanly. He showed up as a huge playmaker with those clutch catches right up the seam, I think our TE’s are one of the bright spots on our team. Do you guys think that Wilford will be able to hang around?

Coach Crennel, if all of your Coors Lights can talk what happens when you open your fridge? There's generally "Hoopla" involved.

I hope so

Tight ends has some potential. Wilford & Miller need to improve blocking. Miller says he needs to add 10lbs. But a good potential position. Curious as to whether Mike Tice will return. I heard he was interviewing in Chicago. I really like him as a coach.

I don't think

Wilford will be around next year. With Miller and Lewis becoming bigger receiving threats, we will need more blockers.
