free agency

What should the Jaguars do in free agency. There should be enough talent to help address some of our weakness for the short term. There are also a few who could be long term solutions. The safety position looks like the most promising position to pick some one up at. Defensive tackle is also a good looking crop but may be out of our price range.what are youe throughs on what position we should up grade

safety

I would like one of the two safeties from new orleans or Bethea from Indy

Remenber it is not who you are , but what you do that defines you. GO JAGS

Every team is going to protect their free agents

Which means not a whole lot, if any viable players are going to be available that would have any sort of impact for the Jags

Does anyone know

where this is a nice list of UFA’s? I think RFA’s are out of the question.

by Ewdtrey on Jan 19, 2010 2:36 AM EST reply actions

Of that list I like

QB Chris Redman
DT Gabe Watson is ok….
P Michael Koenen is a really good punter
CB Terrance McGee(Nevermind he was resigned)
LB Thomas Davis was playing well, but he’s hurt now and will need some time to recover
DE Matt Roth
CB Will Blackmon (Might be expensive)
FS Nick Collins (Probably too expensive though)
WR Kevin Walter
CB Karl Paymah
DT Barry Coefield
DT Fred Robbins only if he’s super cheap because he’s old
DT Mike DeVito too bad he’s a RFA because he’s one of my favorite no names
WR Jason Avant
QB Charlie Whitehurst
DT Aubrayo Franklin probably too expensive though
This is a nice list. but I think a lot of these so called UFA’s are going to be RFA’s. And some of them have already been signed. I tried to avoid really expensive players and older players, minus a couple older players here and there.

I think Ware got a new contract in mid-season........

But still some nice DE’s, DT’s, and 3-4 pass rushers…..

Dumervil is a RFA

we'd have to give up a high draft pick, wouldn't we?

If they offer him the highest amount… He was a 5th or 6th rounder when he was drafted.

(sorry, thought you were talking about manning)

Dumervil was a 3rd round pick, and they FOR SURE would offer dumervil the most, so anyone who wanted to sign him, would have to give big compensation (if the broncos let them, they have the right to match the offer)

Where's the option for

All of the above?

If there’s a player that represents a good value, I think the Jaguars should pursue them. I would say that offensive tackle is the only position that probably doesn’t need a little more competition.

by acedarney on Jan 19, 2010 10:38 AM EST reply actions

I also

really like our LB’s. They just gotta stay healthy. Durant is a pro bowl LB if he can stay on the field. Daryl Smith just needs to learn how to hang on to an interception to be probowl worthy IMO. I don’t think any 43 LB in the NFL has done more than he has this past season.

by Ewdtrey on Jan 19, 2010 5:01 PM EST up reply actions

I like them too

but there’s still room for improvement. A little more depth than Russel Allen (even though he was surprisingly good) and Brian Iwuh would have been nice this season.

by acedarney on Jan 20, 2010 10:01 AM EST up reply actions

What do you mean by

“…Iwuh would have been nice this season”?

by Ewdtrey on Jan 20, 2010 3:30 PM EST up reply actions

acedarney seems to be saying that depth would have been nice this season

But Iwuh

never left the team. He was still there for depth all year, except that week against the Texans(1st time) when he got in trouble for some undisclosed team rule. I think he even started 2 games when Durant and Ingram were hurt and we were playing around with the 34.

by Ewdtrey on Jan 20, 2010 8:42 PM EST up reply actions

Iwuh and Russell

We could still find someone better than both of those I think. Higher quality depth is what I’d like to see this team acquire at the positions that are seen as strengths on this team.

by acedarney on Jan 21, 2010 10:57 AM EST up reply actions

i'd like higher depth quality at all positions

by gusjax on Jan 19, 2010 2:00 PM EST reply actions

cribbs?

isnt he a UFA this year?

by hawk16lx on Jan 19, 2010 7:04 PM EST reply actions

Nope

he’s signed through 2012

by Ewdtrey on Jan 19, 2010 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

He's stuck there with a terrible contract

Cribbs said if they don’t restructure his contract for more, he’ll demand a trade.
