With this season out come looking more and more dismal I have already shifted some of my attention to the 2011 draft. I suppose a poor record results in a better draft pick, but I'd still rather have enjoyable Sundays. A top 10 pick is all but certain for us this year and with many passing attacks our atrocious secondary will be facing, a top 5 pick wouldn't surprise me at all. So what is my oh so "expert opinion on the matter...
A QB in the Top 10 would make an incredible amount of sense correct? Yes, but will Weaver want to spend that kind of bank on a QB and potentially get burned as he did with Garrard? Also, none of us know GM Gene's board, but it is generally a bit different than most's expectations. One thing is for certain, he does not look to pick up a guy later because he thinks the rest of a league will have a lower grade. Gene sticks to his board.
The 2011 draft is chalk full of QBs, pass rushers, and the less spoken of secondary. Sure, many have multiple DBs in their mocked top 10, but few actually state the strength of this classes secondary. I'm not going to pretend to know what Gene's board will look like, but as it looks like Luck will be picked first, I do believe we'll be looking for a QB in the second. I think in the first round we'll be looking at one of the many CBs as our team's new multi-million. In the second we'll be welcoming a guy like Nick Foles, Christian Ponder, or even Pat Devlin.
My full prediction...
1.5 Patrick Peterson-CB-LSU
2.5 Nick Foles-QB-Arizona
3.5 Jaiquawn Jarrett-S-Temple
4.5 Kelvin Sheppard-LB-LSU
4.30 Colin Baxter-C-Arizona
5.5 Any Dalton-QB-TCU
6.5 Korey Lindsay-CB-Southern Illinois
Gene likes to throw a lot of draft picks at problems, what are your thoughts on who or what we may draft this year.
