4-3? Why not?

Yes, I know. 4-3. Yeah right. No way. Are you kidding me? Did you see what happened Monday night! But what if we go into Arrowhead and win. 4-3. It is not all that crazy to think (is it)? Why not an up this week. This season has been up, down, down, up, up, down, .... Why not up with a win this week?

I came home tonight and checked up on all the articles on BCC (didn't have time to check it out over lunch today at work) and was amazed at what transpired today with the QB situation. I thought, we are really screwed this weekend, but after watching some of the interviews today and listening to the JDR press conference, I got my second wind. I truly don't believe the season is all doom and gloom and we will go 0-10 the rest of the year as I think the underlying sediment is today from everyone's comments. At this point, 4-4 at the Bye is a success in my eyes. We have to win 1 of the next 2 (obviously) to get there and I look at Sunday as an opportunity to do so. An opportunity for someone else to shine on this team. Someone else to step up and show leadership on this team. Not that David is that true leader, but I am assuming David will be inactive and probably won't even make the trip and someone else has to lead this team. MJD, you are the face of the Jaguars. You said you were embarrassed Monday night, well go in there on Sunday and bust a long one or two. Prove it. This team needs a big play. Just one and I truly believe it will provide a spark and some energy to this offense. Eugene, Eben and everyone else on the OL, get ready to bring it. You are young, you are physical and you are better than what you showed on MNF and vs. the Eagles. Prove it this week. You are going into an old NFL city, with tradition, passionate fans and a tough environment to play in. This is what you want when playing the game of football. It will be a challenge. What is Jacksonville's tradition? It is to be a physical, running, control the clock type of team. This week sets up well for that type of approach. It might be the only approach we can take with the offense and QB situation. Dirk knows that and will have to prepare a game plan to execute that tempo of play. Everyone knows it is coming, so there is no trickery or outsmarting the Chiefs on this one, we have to win the one-on-one physical matchup at the line of scrimmage. Edwards/Bouman/Ramsey. Whoever gets the call, they will know the pressure won't be on them. The game plan will not be for either of them to win the game with their arm by passing for 300 yards. They will be put into position to mange the offense and play mistake free football. Play smart and avoid a turnover and even if we go 3 and out a couple of series, I think the offense will get its chances. Don't give the Chiefs the short field with turnovers. We have to eliminate them. Protect the ball. Receivers, I don't see too many opportunities or too many deep balls this week, so when you get your chances, catch the ball, hold on to it, and fight for every extra yard. The Chiefs defense has given up 31 points in the 4th quarter in their last two games. They can be had. They give up in the 4th. If we can physically outplay them in the first three quarters, we have to keep it close and take advantage of the 4th quarter. Make that quarter our advantage. Defensively, we can stop the run. We have proved this multiple times this year and especially on MNF against CJ. We need someone to stepup on Defense besides Kampman. Knighton is a close second, but besides those two, who has really played at a higher level this year consistently? Secondary, no excuses this week. You absolutely can't let Cassel to Bowe get over the top on us this week. Greene and Carey, the jobs are yours. Your positions are safe. Play smart and aggressive knowing (and even with GM Gene expecting you to) if you make a mistake, your job is safe. Play free, comfortable and fly to the ball. I believe the release of Smith and GA should let Greene and Carey prepare and play with a different mental approach. Cox will be back, so Reggie Nelson Jr won't be in the game this weekend at the other CB opposite Rasheen. And speaking of Rasheen, time for you to make a big play. When was you last INT? You are making people forget about you during your contract year and that isn't good. You know that. Make a play. And finally someone on Sunday on this Defense needs to make a name for themselves. Yes, I am taking about being bad! And what I mean by that is someone has to hit someone. Light someone up. I want to see snot bubbles. I want to see a helmet go flying or a mouthpiece go 10 feet in the air.. I want someone laid out. At this point, I would like to see a legal but fine worthy (injury free) hit. Someone needs to make the highlight reel and give the media something to talk about in Jacksonville. Someone needs to play pissed off and show emotion and take their frustrations out on the Chiefs. Darryl Smith. Kirk Morrison. Do you have it in you? You make that play early in the game by hitting someone, not only does it inspire the entire defense and team, it also changes the WR the next time they go across the middle, it effects the QB making that decision to throw that ball again and it probably limits the amount of time the OC will call that play. A play like that can truly change multiple things in the game and give the advantage to the Jaguars. So in summary, the Jags just have to go into the game and not worry about all the BS from the MNF game. As much as I hate to say it, move on. Don't dwell on it any more. This is the NFL and the best thing about the NFL is you can have games like Monday and still recover. This isn't college football where a game like Monday eliminates you from the National Championship b/c some sportswriter thinks you should be ranked 10 spots less and some computer calculates you in the mid-teens. You get another chance this week. Another opportunity. Get yourself to 4-3 and who knows how the Titans will do against the EAgles and what the Colts/Texans do after their bye. 4-3 might get you back into first place. And we have seen the Jaguars respond this year. If you would have told me after the Eagles game we would have won the next two, I would have called you crazy. But we did. Now people are saying we are crazy if we think we are going to win against the Chiefs Sunday, but hopefully come Sunday by 4:00 pm we are all back to how we felt just two weeks ago.
