Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

Cam Newton

I was watching ESPN today and well Kiper has officially put Newton on his big board, purely becuase he thinks Newton will essentially need to come out this coming year given the "scandal" he is involved in. This whole thing has me thinking. Assuming he does come out, where does he rank among potential quarterbacks that th Jaguars might draft. I feel like he is a slightly better version than Vince Young, and truthfully I am not a fan of VY. Even if he might be better than Jake Locker(and I really am not a fan of Locker), I think Locker would be the better choice given the fact  that Locker is not a Vince Young in the making.

Your thought?

I would want Foles

but he probably won’t come out so I’ll be happy with Ponder, Devlin, or any early QB Gene takes.

Simply put, Newton, Mallett, and likely Locker won’t happen. NOT Gene Smith type of guys.

The order in terms of who I would want is

Foles,Devlin,Ponder,Locker,Mallett,Newton

Mallett got a lot of votes so far which is suprising- just look at the last Arkansas QB drafted by the Jags

The guy I like is Blaine Gabbert

Could probably get him in the 2nd or 3rd round.

That said, can we save the draft talk until after the season. The Jaguars are in the middle of the playoff race this year and we’re thinking about next year. We’ll drive this crap into the ground in February, March and April.

I had no intention of this being draft talk

I was more looking for opinions as to whether Newton should enter the draft given the current situation he finds himself in. I threw in the poll for kicks.

If Cam is clean then I don't think he has any better chance of coming out next year then Luck

That CBA is bigger then any other factor in my mind.

I haven’t seen a ton of him to be honest with you, I thought Auburn would be awful so I didn’t make it a point to watch them. What I have seen is pretty awesome, he is certainly their best player and a dominating kid at that level. The only issue I see is that I though Jamarcus Russell was dominating too. I do like him a little better then Locker, he seems to be much smoother in throwing the ball and also seems more athletic, and Locker isn’t a slouch athlete.

I’ll let Gene decide who he likes best, I’ll support whoever gets picked.

You thought Auburn would be awful?

Good god man with a noodle armed statue last year we went 8-5.

I'm a west coast guy

I trust my old roommate (a South Carolina guy) for my SEC news. He says they would suck, I believed him. He might eat his words here soon! I usually don’t know who will be good when you talk SEC and ACC, except in basketball.

To my credit I knew Oregon would wreck shop and thought Boise would have a shot at the NC…guess its still all about geography with college football.

cam newton

is a FREAK, but im more of a locker guy, id be upset if we drafted newton over locker..

by FgallosJAGS on Nov 19, 2010 8:03 AM EST reply actions

Mallett

would be a sick qb to have too, either him or Locker would make me happy : )

Newton in my mind is an even more raw version of Tebow. I see him, I see Edmonton Eskimoes in his future.

Gotta say of the qbs I’ve seen that are in our wheelhouse, I think I’d go Foles, Stanzi, Devlin, Dalton in that order.

Newton

Newton is definitely better than Tebow was at this point in his career; pro motion, stronger arm and all. He simply does not read the field very well from what I have seen. Now, he is doing a lot with several iffy receiver’s which makes it even more impressive.

Has anyone actually watched Pat Devlin play at all?

by Alfie Crow on Nov 21, 2010 8:01 PM EST reply actions

Great Player!!

Same system Flacco comes out of, and development ( into a starter) should be short term at the next level. Heck of an arm. Can make all the throws. I can only think that Joe Pa wished he had him back.

I'll be your dog, just don't treat me like one....

Have you watched him? I know all the cliche talk about him, but has anyone actually watched him play a game?

by Alfie Crow on Nov 21, 2010 10:09 PM EST up reply actions

Not a game, but highlights

I think its a big possibility

which is exactly why I don’t get paid the big bucks to make these decisions. Just by watching him I think hes pretty damn good.

by jstnblke41 on Nov 22, 2010 4:00 PM EST up reply actions

He may like football,....

but of course this is IMO….His head is to big for his briches…..he dosnt want to listen to anyone and thinks hes better then everyone…thats what i mean, is that hes not humble…hes gona be huge prospect, but wind up busting thats what im saying. Next J russell or New next Young!
