Former Jaguar Matt Jones set to retire.

Photo

According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, former Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Matt Jones has decided to retire from the NFL. Per La Canfora, Jones was invited to workout for the Washington Redskins who are hurting at wide receiver, but he declined and informed them he intends to retire.

Also, the Jacksonville Jaguars have waived linebacker Eric Alexander and signed offensive lineman Guy Whimper. The team also signed wide receiver Clarence Denmark to it's practice squad and waived receiver Lance Long from the practice squad. There is still one spot remaining on the Jaguars practice squad.

The question must be asked

Has he done enough to warrant Hall of Fame status?

....

you are either extraordinarily high or have a wonderful sense of humor…quite possible both are true, as that idea isn’t so far fetched either, LOL

I hear Canton is asking for his dusty credit card

Look at it this way. He can go back to being the “mayor” of Fayetteville much like Ken Stabler is the mayor of Mobile.

Some of

Matt’s highlights. The guy was definitely a questionable decision to draft, but I always liked him as a Jag. Hope he finds something constructive to do with any money he still has from the NFL… a la not buy crack.

Seriously though, good luck Matt

To be honest...

I kinda still wish we still had him. He was really starting to get the hang of the receiver position and led the team in receiving. Its a shame that he got into some legal troubles Plus, he was a fan favorite.

I agree

His consistency, abilities, and work ethic were improving. He was actually catching midfield, too. I believe he was putting his problems behind him and then he got busted because he drank a few beers while golfing. It was a cheap and stupid violation of his probation, but a violation nonetheless.

Oh well, good luck, Matt.

we have better now

guys that aren’t long striders but it wouldn’t surprise me if they go after a true #1 receiver in next years draft.

Speaking of our roster moves

I’d like to see us sign Prince Miller as our PR replacement for Scotty McGee. Check this punt return.

I was a fan but critical

While he was here, but I was always supportive and thought he showed good promise. He just seemed a little to lazy in my opinion, but I don’t know. I wish him good luck in his future.

More interesting than "important", but...

if one were so inclined, they could say that this news

1. shows how what most fans see as mistakes of the past have panned out and have proven to be just that.

2. gives an update of a “whatever happened to that guy” in a where are they now sort of way.

3. gives fans information on their former players, which makes it relevant to a fan site.

4. brings some levity to the bye week discussions so we don’t get too caught up in “what’s going to happen now?” stuff

if one were so inclined that is…

WTF IS THE INTERNET?!?
