Jaguars safety Don Carey fined $12,500 for hit on Jason Witten

Jacksonville Jaguars safety Don Carey was fined $12,500 by the league for his hit on tight end Jason Witten on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. This was also the same play where Carey sprained his neck when going helmet to helmet with Witten. The hit itself didn't look like a dirty hit, just more like a "bang-bang" type of play. Carey was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play, so the fine shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Witten didn't even realize it was an illegal hit.

"They penalized him on that, huh?" Witten said after the game when asked about the hit. "I felt fine. It's funny on those shots; sometimes you feel it and take it and sometimes they take it. Those seam routes are the hardest ones. You look at the tape the commissioner sent out, a lot of those [hits] are with tight ends over the middle."

Carey told reporters today that he was worried the fine would be higher, given some of the fines that have been handed down so far this season.
