Word is that a player's only meeting was called today. Do these ever work? And isn't it kinda late for this?
I don't know what the expectation for this Sunday is. These guys are professionals. They know what is at stake. They know that there is a possibility for some more seismology at Everbank in the off-season that may include the coaching staff. I'm as much an optimist as anyone and I'm sure there are lots of people who say "if we told you that we'd have a chance to get in on Week 17 back in September, you'd take it. Well, it may be true, but the NFL is no place for stagnant targets and concrete goals. Our we a year ahead of schedule? Well, week 13 I'd have said yes, Now, I think we've crashed to Earth.
Same can be said for the off-season declaration of playoffs or else by the ownership. This game has a lot of meaning. Lose, and not only is the goal not reached, but for the 2nd straight year, we go on a slide to close out the season. Not exactly the sales pitch you want to give to those fans who are ready to "buy in" to the Jaguars. We know there are several pieces to the puzzle that we need to accumulate next season and some positions that are in need of depth and blood transfusions. No need to beat the dead horse. Let's wait til after the season is over.
Anyhow, as stated earlier. We know what is needed next Sunday. Ideally, Manning eats some bad Mexican before the game and we hear Curtis Painter's music and Tennessee shows up to play. But we have to take care of business in Houston ourselves. No easy feat with or without Andre Johnson.
What I'd love to see is a game where we take our frustrations out on Houston and seal Kubiak's fate. But, we just don't seem built to do that.
Can we do it?
