Antonio Pierce and the Jaguars
According to ESPN.com,
The New York Giants have released middle linebacker Antonio Pierce after five seasons.
Would the Jaguars be interested in Antonio Pierce, a MLB?
As you can see, he has a following and can rally people behind him: http://www.antoniopierce58.com
Antonio Pierce is a 31 year old and I believe he has a couple more years in him. It is also possible to get him at slightly less and bolster our linebacker corps. He could provide leadership to a young Defense and competition to the MLB spot.
One noticeable thing from last year is that Antonio got hurt: a herniated disk in his neck. But according to him:
He said the MRI was "very positive."
"I can't say I'm 100 percent yet, but with the season still six months away, I'm right where I need to be and I'm going to be fine," he said.
On where he would like to go:
When asked if he had an idea of where he might play next or if he has been contacted by other teams, Pierce said, "I have no wish list. If I had a preference, it would be to stay in the NFC East, since I know the division so well. But I just want to go somewhere I can help a good team."

no thanks. i feel it would be another one year, stop gap, signing. if we’re going to follow the youth movement, i’d rather get someone with about 4-5 years of playing time instead of 9 going on 10 years. that is, if the price is right also
Sean Jax Beach Bum
But maybe FAs like him
is the only FA’s we sign so… I think if the price is right and he is willing to play Gene might pull the trigger!

He might not even be a starter here
He would provide great veteran depth on the order of what Tra Thomas provided at tackle last season. I say sign him if the medical checks out and he’s not too expensive. I’ve seen him play a few times and he’s pretty good…too good to not take a look at him.
I think he would be like a mentor to maybe Russell Allen
or whoever else at linebacker. He’d also provide vet depth

+1
Daryl Smith could be a player and linebackers coach at the same time. He’s one of the best linebackers technique wise in the league.

Not his fault
Justin Durant can’t make a play on the ball.

I've seen alot of him
being in a family with two redskins fans. i like it IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT. If the price is right i seee NO reason why not to grab him, hes a great great leader and player and an all around good guy. and would bring some more veteran leadership to the team and a voice to the defense
behind the scenes
having a leader is a good thing

I Hear You
But I see JagsAlex’s argument as well. You gotta be a playmaker to be able to tell me what to do.

He has been a playmaker
but like Torry Holt, is at the back part of his career

Torry Holt was still a starter
He was second on the team in receiving yards.
We didn't have alot of choices

All about TD's
Field goals are like taking points away in my book.

Do you blame Holt for that
Or is it maybe the fault of a team that just doesn’t pass in the red zone?

No
I blame Holt for not getting in on the fifty something yarder he caught against Miami. Or the 40 something yarder when he went out on the one against Kansas City. Or maybe his inability to pick up yards after the catch, and sometimes even catch the ball over the middle.
It was time for Holt to go.

Well put
Torry did a lot for this team, but his skills are clearly dwindling and this is a team on a youth movement. Because of that I also believe it was time for him to go.
However, I think he would’ve gotten at least one touchdown in a different offense. So I think it’s a little bit of both.

I see what your saying
But I think the offense is in need of playmakers.

Exactly
Leadership by example is all that matters. The best leaders are the ones that can still produce, like Ray Lewis. I do think there’s some leadership on the defense, like Darryl Smith, Rashean Mathis, John Henderson. My point is that Gene isn’t going to bring in players to lead. He’s going to bring in players to produce and win.
yea we got enough vets
the last thing we need is to get older on D, we need more youth. rather have russell allen playing and learning from D.Smith and J.Durant
We're not the NFC East
I’m pretty sure he’ll go where the money is, but I’ve heard he really wants to get picked up by Washington or Philadelphia.
Contrary to my typical hard line against big name free agents I’ll generally welcome them with open arms if the price is right…However, he’ll want more than backups are paid I’d imagine.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
The problem
I have with him he’s not needed as a stop gap player. We already have a young group with depth too. And frankly he doesn’t offer anything physically that we don’t already have. However, he would add some veteran savvy to the position. But because the MLB already has a radio in his helmet and JDR was a smart/savvy LB himself, I think most of what Pierce brings to the table is superseded by what we already have. Why spend the money and the roster spot. It’s not like he’s gonna play special teams either.
Bingo. We have a winner. I agree that he would’ve been useful about 4 or 5 years ago.
Sean Jax Beach Bum
I also agree with this.
Mentoring is only needed with areas that don’t have successful veterans. Considering Daryl Smith is a pretty damn good LB that also plays all three positions, and Del Rio was a pretty good LB himself, I don’t think we need much of that “mentoring”. I mean, seriously, our head coach is a LB that played for eleven years, I don’t think we need much more than that.
I asked
Michael C Wright about Pierce and the Jags his answer was:
No way. He can’t play anymore and has neck issues.
So…

Like...
“You look like you’re really savoring that pickle”.
By the way, anyone watch Julia Mancuso’s run in the Downhill today? The female announcer dropped a great “that’s what she said” opportunity. It went something like, “Julia really likes it rough and hard.” Speaking of “that’s what she said”, here’s this.
Julia
“Really likes it rough, hard, and on an incline to keep the pace up.” Haha

Wow, Even Reuters Noted that
“Some like it smooth, but American Julia Mancuso preferred it rough and tough on Wednesday.”
