last year we almost drafted.... MarkSanchez?
According to jaguars this week (02-17-10) and Vic K our GM thought drafting Mark Sanchez could be a great value for us at 8; and he was also excited by Bennie Wells. The Wells part I've heard before, but not that Sanchez rumor!
Having said that; they never suspected Monroe would fall and had him far higher on their board.
I found the Sanchez part very interesting; I suppose that adds creditability to keeping 10/11 and drafting QB. I suppose we have to suspect our GM sees value in a QB who's "Sanchez like".... So; anyone want to take up that challenge and compare this years crop to Sanchez?

Smoke and mirrors
That’s all Sanchez was. They invited him for a visit, took him out to dinner. No big deal, he probably visited a dozen teams in this manner. Personally, I don’t see much in this year’s QB crop. Don’t look for the next Manning or Brady. You’ll know when you see them. Looking only creates the expectation that you’ll find them and places unrealistic expectations on the player that you’ve anointed to be the next guy. Let Gene and his staff do their jobs. They’ll take the BAP, unlike the previous regime.
"You'll know when you see them" ????
Brady was a 6th round pick. Clearly nobody new him when they saw him coming out of college.
And I don’t think it’s smoke and mirrors at all. Gene is going to have his value board and it’s probably nothing like the way the players ahead of us get drafted.
could be just to drive up the value
but a year later Vic still spoke with conviction. Anyhow it’s more fun if it’s true. ;)
Reports came out the morning of the draft
That the Jaguars had already worked out a trade with the Redskins, if I remember right, if he was available at #8. That was actually why the Jets traded up as high as they did to get him.

You never really know, but from what we can see now… there is almost no room to compare. Stafford and Sanchez were a huge step, at least in my opinion, above Bradford and Clausen. That being said… Clausen would still be a huge steal for us if he fell to 10 or 11. I doubt he will, though.

" would’a… could’a…. should’a " - I think that phrase is going to apply to nearly every single draft when it comes to players we passed on… imo

We didn't pass on Sanchez. He was already picked.
Feel free to apply that to any of the previous drafts though.
i think you know what i meant. if not, it means ‘passed on’ in a much broader sense and not a strict one
