Holt and Thomas to be released

First Coast News Reports-

Jacksonville, Fla.-- The Jaguars will release two veteran players who "don't figure into the team's future plans,"  First Coast News has learned. Both Tra Thomas and receiver Torry Holt have been told they will be let go after the Super Bowl.

Thomas was brought in from Philadelphia this past off-season and Holt was added as well. On the season, Holt caught 51 passes for 722 yards and no touchdowns. Both hope to continue their careers.

welp, looks as if Troy Williamson still has a shot

i liked both the players, but i’m not surprised or feel bad about it. i’m pretty sure they’re going to be picked up for the same kind of role on other teams. Good luck to both guys

Holt

Was dead weight. Time to move on. Thomas couldn’t get on the field. Time to move on.

Maybe

But he has experience, something our WR don’t have, he is (was) top class WR, he can help a lot to our young guys, I would keep him.

No doubt

He helped our guys this year, but next year he is just going to take up a roster spot; where we could have a playmaker who gets into the endzone after he catches a 50 yarder, instead of being tackled short.

Somewhat sad to see them go

but I’m in wonderment of who could be their replacements. I wish them good luck if their supposed imminent cuts are indeed true.

Sorry to hear that....

I’ll miss both of them!

Troy Willimson

Deserves another shot. he was playing his heart out all preseason, and looked like a new wide reciever. Torry had some drops and was prob just a coach of this team. PLUS this gives us more picks, because the NFL gives you picks based on how much u lost in Free Agency. so technically this is just a way to get picks

I don't think it counts if you cut the player

Or does it? I believe it only works in your favor when you allow them to leave for FA because of an expiring contract. Was he on a one year contract?

You're right

This wont count towards compensatory picks because their contracts aren’t expiring.

Thanks, Stites

It is as I figured then. Oh well, I wish it were as Hawk stated.

What is our salary situtation at?

If we cut Holt and Thomas are we going to be paying more money to players who don’t even play for us, i.e. Florence and Porter? Im not good with salary issues so im not sure how we stand

there wasn't much we could do...

I agree it was great to have Holt around. I assume he didn’t like his role, and still wanted to play, so saying isn’t really an option for him either. Doesn’t stop me from wishing he’d be content to move in to a WR coaching spot though.

My final word on this

When you start and don’t score a touchdown in 16 games, your not making an impact.

Not to be

pedantic, but it was only 12 games he started. And he played only 15. lol
Some of those nonstarts were because of the run packages we opened up in sometimes. But he was basically a starter for about 14 total games.

by Ewdtrey on Feb 11, 2010 4:54 AM EST up reply actions

Okay

Sorry, he wasn’t a literal starter. But he was on the field for 3/4 of the offensive snaps, and towards the end of the season when they brought Nate Hughes in on the running packages, they ran. When we were passing the ball he was in there.

Ha

My B man. I thought about that literally thirty seconds after I posted it. It’s been a long week man, I was ready to snap when I got on here. Haha
