2010 Free Agency

This interesting link I found at pats pulpit got me to thinking, what pick ups do you think the jaguars should go after? Most of these players will be resigned by their teams and wont be available sadly, but what do you guys think?
I think with the uncapped year, the jags should try to unload most of the remaining weight from Harris' era, and would have enough cash to try to land a big fish, instead of a dink and dunk FA this year.
Marshall and Boldin are absolutely impossible for the Jags to get, Peppers is too old, but what about outbidding the Patriots for some of their OGs, or what I like, to try and pull from the other AFC South teams (probably not likely) but what about the Jaguars trying for Kevin Walter, DeMeco Ryans, or maybe Bo Scaife? Antoine Bethea for nelson and and a 7th? or even trading off Nelson and a 6th to the Texans for Dunta Robinson? How about Heyward and Nelson to some other team for picks, which we then trade for others? Personally I would have liked the Jags to have picked up Darren Sharper when he was a UFA a few years back...seriously guys any ideas?
Another Idea for the thread....Jax Municipal Stadium should be named what? I say name it Colts Stadium, and get Antoine Bethea and Marlin Jackson (lol)

there's a few RFA safties I'm curious about
But I just can’t imagine giving up picks for most of them… Having said that I think a guy like George Wilson from the Bills is a pretty big upgrade, and likely an affordable one.
Brodney Pool and O.J. Atogwe might be better fits as I think they are more natural FS rather that combo or SS, but I don’t really know enough about either to determine what I’d give up for them.
Nick Collins isn’t leaving Green Bay, so I think we can go ahead and pretend he’s not at the top of the list.

Atogwe is a Great FS
But I can’t imagine the Rams letting him go without putting a pretty high tender on him. Pool…meh
I’ll admit I don’t know much about George Wilson of the Bills.
Or, like the Jaguars message board suggested, we could always trade David Garrard for Donte Whitner :) I love the Jags message board.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.

I would see a trade for
a pick or a player but I’M affraid he might not have the value anyomre….
So I voted for the relase.

As much as I don't like to admit it..
I say get rid of him now. It is obvious he isn’t the answer at S and we already have two key elements of this team that I feel aren’t the answer in place, so why delay the inevitable by keeping a 3rd weakness in position. If he hasn’t read coverages properly the last year or two and lost the fundamental ability to wrap up and tackle this year, why should we expect that to radically change for next season?

I'm saying keep him
first he’s not that bad a tackler anymore, unless he decides to make stupid decision like in the Colts game.
He also has value as a special teamer and NB. He’s also not super expensive. Cutting him this year gives us no compensation. Keeping him this year and letting him go in FA later can possibly garner us a compensation pick, if not a trade bait if he improves his value.
Basically, unless you have a stacked roster and you need room for your roster, there is no real benefit from cutting him.

Jason Cambell
You know i come from maryland and i dont think Cambell is that bad. if hes cheap we shoud snag him. I think hes designed to play in a heavy run offense not a west coast (like the redskins played) and he had a TON of different offensive coordinators. He might be good on this team. MAYBE. but only if hes cheap

we dont need another average QB.......
we need playmakers at our need positions……. Otogwe, Sharper(he will re-sign with NO), V. Wilfork is a good DT….We need pass rushers……..What about Dunta Robinson????

Texans fans hate Dunta
But he isn’t a bad player. They just hate him; for some reason they blame everything bad about the defense on him. Its hilarious reading their post game threads. But he’d be a nice second corner or nickle, depending on how well Cox does next year. It’d definitely upgrade our secondary, and may allow Mathis to move to Free Safety

Funny thing is
Dunta was a fan favorite last year.

I think it's a money thing
something about him going public with his negotiations and then getting hurt etc…

I think he will fit in great on our team........
Plus play against the fans who shunned him……….

Melvin Bullitt
Is going to be a RFA. Pretty nice SS.

Unless he's not
tendered I wouldn’t worry about any RFA’s this offseason.

I Would
Agree, but he is young, and we may be able to get him for a third.

Still a little
pricey for me. If he was a FS I would do it for a 3rd. But you can find pretty good SS’s pretty late in the draft, and you can get them younger and cheaper.

Some nobodies
that have caught my eye this season:
CB Karl Paymah Vikings he’s a RFA, but he was also inactive for some games, which means he might not be tendered.
WR Jason Avant another RFA but they are pretty loaded at WR, so they may not tender him either. Underrated tough player with good hands.
Not much else out there that will have a big impact.

I like Avant
Runs nice routes as well. Knows where to sit down in zones.
