With the 17th pick in the draft the San Francisco 49rs select Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
San Francisco has multiple opportunities but goes with BAP, need and value. Campbell had an outstanding combine and will start immediately at RT with the possibility of moving to LT. There are concerns due to his lack of dominance at the collegiate level but physical and mental make up warrant the risk.
They could also go for the safety position but addressing the offensive line is more of a priority. If they do believe that Alex Smith is their future then replacing Adam Snyder appears to be a must. Another thing to consider is whether the 49rs switch to a 4-3. This could put them in the market for a DE.

If Campbell is still around when the Niners pick, I’ll be shocked. However, it would be an excellent value pick for them, as they need loads of help on the offensive line. Good pick.

He
Is considered by many to be the fourth best tackle in the draft behind Okung, Davis and Bulaga. Personally I have him third behind Okung and Davis based on his sheer potential, as I think Bulaga is maxed out, despite still being a good football player.

I think
long arms are overrated at LT. Think Baker. Think Micheal Roos. Strong technicians often make great LT’s, regardless of arm length. Very overrated.
I feel you
Bulaga arms didn’t measure long, and instantly mayock started talking about him playing on the right side. Long arms help, but like you said, they aren’t vital.

Agreed
I know there is concern over whether is athleticism will translate so there is a bust potential. Trent Williams could’ve been the safer pick but Campbell’s potential won out. I like what I read from Ken Whisenhunt.
“It (40 time and bench reps) gets your attention. The guy is athletic and really moves around. He’s big and strong. You go back and look at the tape again and see what kind of player you’re talking about.”
The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.

You went right
While Williams may be more developed as of now, he is known for having a poor work ethic and at times showed disinterest in football. IMO Williams has more bust potential, so I like your decision to go with Campbell here.

I've got the zona pick so I'm paying close attention....
Interestingly enough BC’s bench press (34 vs. TW 23) and arms (36-1/2 vs. 34-1/4) really overshadowed what was also a good combine day by Trent Williams:
4.88 ‘40 (.03 behind BC for 2nd)
34.5" vert (1st)
9’5" broad jump (1" off the best)
4.63 20 yard shuttle (vs. 4.69 BC and the best 4.51).
Hah, I was going to make this pick as well. Guess great minds think alike.
Let’s keep the momentum going.

Mayock said, "If I was an NFL GM, I would not take him in the first round"
With that being said, he certainly has a lot of potential, and looks pretty solid physically. I just don’t think that 17 starts at the college level is enough to warrant a 1st round pick and to be immeadiately inserted into the starting line up. I think he’s gonna need some time to get his bearings before he starts.
Duuuuvvvvallllllll!!!!!....Damn, I miss Paul Spicer!
Nice Pick
49ers offensive line played horrible at times last year, and I think within a year he can move to the left side with a good offensive line coach.
