Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

My first three picks

10th pick - RB CJ Spiller

42nd pick - CB Alterraun Verner

74th pick - DE Alex Carrington

I tried to go best available player for each round. Despite having MJD, I couldn't pass on a homerun hitter in Spiller. Rashad Jennings is a good player but there are better runners. I was impressed with Verner's character and his workout at the combine. Looks like he could be a gem. Carrington is a big guy, doesn't have the speed of JPP but he does have nice initial burst off the line and should be able to shed blocks and stop the run at the next level due to his size.

Can't disagree about Spiller

If the Jags were to draft him, I’d be drooling over all the possibilities about pairing him with MJD in the backfield

Yea I think we fall into 4 camps

Those who are scared to draft anything but bigs early.
Those who want to just trade down regardless of who is there at 10.
Those who just want Tebow.
Those who want either Haden or Morgan.

by Slvrgun on Mar 12, 2010 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

I think I would like to trade down

unless someone of great value, to us, is there at 10.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 12, 2010 2:34 PM EST up reply actions

I think i Fit in all the categories above

I like big guys in the 1st
I like getting value and picks

He's a little

smaller than Felix and not as fast in pads as Johnson, IMO. He could have a similar impact to Felix though.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 12, 2010 2:35 PM EST up reply actions

Let me ask you this

do you think Jacoby Ford looks like a 4.28? Not to mention I don’t know how you could claim that Spiller is over all faster than Johnson, considering Johnson ran a 4.24 to Spiller’s 4.37
Yeah Spiller had a better 100 meter but that was his college time, something Johnson didn’t really do in college(What’s listed is his high school tim). Not to mention the yard lines don’t even span a 100 meters. What really matters are those first 5 yards and second most impportant yardage is the 15 yards after that. Beyond that you’re already gonna run away from everyone else anyhow.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 13, 2010 2:37 AM EST up reply actions

With the way they fucked up the times I wouldn't doubt it if Spiller ran faster than a 4.37

If I remember correctly they had him and some other guy running frame by frame and Spiller beat him even though the other guy had a lower time.

by Slvrgun on Mar 13, 2010 11:46 AM EST up reply actions

i meant 64 and 86

Verner is excellent value in 3rd.

by Slvrgun on Mar 12, 2010 2:23 PM EST reply actions

Ok in that case

I’d be totally happy with it. I’m not sure if Carrington falls to the 4th. I think a 3-4 team will want to scoop him up before that, though.

+1

Carrington would have great value in the 3rd even.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 12, 2010 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

I’m all for George Selvie if he’s there in the 4th. I don’t think Carrington will be there past the mid-3rd.

by Kbot on Mar 12, 2010 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think Selvie

would even make it on the team, assuming his expense in the draft didn’t have anything to do with it.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 12, 2010 4:13 PM EST up reply actions

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I have no idea what you mean. I’m confused.

by Kbot on Mar 12, 2010 4:41 PM EST up reply actions

Basically

I think Selvie will be a bust. He’s not exactly the same type of player that Groves is, but I think he will struggle with the same things.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 13, 2010 2:40 AM EST up reply actions

Oh ok.

I just didn’t understand what the expense part was about, but now I do.

we dont spiller jennings and g jones r fine for now

by rhettchrystal on Mar 12, 2010 3:56 PM EST reply actions

At the right

pick Spiller could be huge for this team.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 12, 2010 4:13 PM EST up reply actions

Greg jones is getting old and is injury prone.

Jennings is good but he is expendable. Plus BAP.

by Slvrgun on Mar 12, 2010 4:31 PM EST up reply actions

That's true about Greg Jones

but I think more importantly is that Greg isn’t a RB anymore. He’s almost strictly a FB.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 13, 2010 2:43 AM EST up reply actions

Then what is?

“Slow” Joe Haden

“Blah” Derrick Morgan?

by Slvrgun on Mar 12, 2010 4:32 PM EST up reply actions

What about:

“Much needed” Trade down

“Fell into our laps” whoever?

We know someone will fall, just depends on who.

by Kbot on Mar 12, 2010 4:43 PM EST up reply actions

Well, I don't agree that that describes Spiller.

Spiller is nothing special. He’s not once-in-a-lifetime, which is what it would take for me to draft a running back that high. Great RBs can be found in any round.

In Gene We Trust.

by MoveThoseChains on Mar 12, 2010 10:35 PM EST up reply actions

No.

But I don’t think Spiller is a Chris Johnson, though he does have better hands. He’s more like a Chris Wells with better hands, and I don’t think that’s worth the 10th pick. Don’t get me wrong, I think he can be a good player, but the highest slot I would feel comfortable paying him would be around 20.

by Kbot on Mar 13, 2010 1:07 AM EST up reply actions

He's no Chris Wells either lol

Closer to Johnson than Wells. Not that he’s Johnson’s caliber of player though. Really, he’s more like a Reggie Bush. Outside runner with good hands and short area quickness. And that’s the kind of production I expect from a Spiller too. Which is why I don’t want to draft him at 10. Not to mention that’s a lot of money tied up into one position.

I'd Take

Selvie over Carrington. Fits our system better and could break out in the pros.

Yeah

I think if you can grab a guy in the fourth who has been talked about going in the mid first, you gotta jump on it. With a good line coach and a few years, he could turn out to be a nice player.

Had

14 sacks in 2007. Had he done that this year he would be considered a first rounder right now. Ha

by Bestjagfan on Mar 12, 2010 5:43 PM EST up reply actions

But there is also

a reason why he hasn’t been getting those sacks, even with a competent player across from him in JPP.
Yeah, I think Selvie’s style fits in better with what we need. But simply put, he’s just not very good.
Carrington however is almost guaranteed to be at least a base hit. He’s a very good player against the run. And he could do what Rob Meier used to do with switching back and forth between DT and DE, except with more of a role as a pass rusher in both positions. And there is no doubt that he can hold the point and collapse the pocket.

Selvie and Spiller

Selvie has played injured for the most part of the past two seasons and even with the injury he was getting doubled which is one of the reason’s JPP is looking to so good right now. JPP more often than not went 1v1 while Selvie was double and tripled team…Name one player who could get production while being clipped, sliced, doubled, and tripled teamed? Now, I am a GT fan and Spiller almost beat GT by himself both times this past year. The kid is a top 10 pick. He has legit 4.3 speed with an incredible top end acceleration I have never seen outside the likes of Chris Johnson…Now, do we need Spiller at the 10th spot, I do not know…

by flint on Mar 13, 2010 3:10 AM EST reply actions

Brandon Graham

and Morgan both took on double teams on the regular. But I don’t even like what I see when Selvie is one on one. I’ve seen TE’s block him alone with ease. That should never happen to a college DE if you want him to play 43 DE in the NFL. Now if he was truly hurt, then maybe I’m wrong. I’ll admit that I was a little wrong when referring to Michael Johnson last year, because it wasn’t reported until after the draft that he played with a hernia all year. Had I known that, maybe I would have been more lenient on his play.
At WR top end accel is important. But for RB’s low end accel is most important. Keep in mind that as a third down back, Spiller isn’t really good as a pass blocker, which is very important to being a valuable back. Had a lot to do with why Jennings didn’t get the ball more during the year.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 13, 2010 4:11 AM EST up reply actions

Injury

From what I have read and heard Selvie has been playing with a high ankle sprain that has been hindering him for the past 2 seasons because he played through it…The kid will not stop playing and always gives 100%. Now, the real question is can he put on some size cause he is definitely too small now to play DE in the NFL.

by flint on Mar 15, 2010 2:04 AM EDT up reply actions

What about him?

I like him as a player. But I don’t think he’s a top ten pick. And he wont be there in the 3rd.
