Canal Street Chronicles writes article on Jacksonville's draft pick
Hi Guys,
Over at Canal Street Chronicles (SBNation's New Orleans Saints site), we are currently doing a community mock draft. Regular readers such as myself each were assigned a team in the upcoming draft, and were responsible for making that team's selection. We would then do a writeup of who the team would draft and why, and it is posted on the main page.
I was the proud writer of the Jacksonville Jaguars pick, and my article was posted this morning at the link below:

I had a lot of fun researching your team and looking over your potential draft needs. I did a good amount of research over here at Big Cat Country, and I think you guys have a great community!
Please feel free to stop by and let me know what you think! Am I right? Wrong? Mentally deranged?
Thanks!

The sad part is . . .
. . . as a game, it was one that even the Jaguar’s couldn’t enjoy. Winning on a missed extra point is the equivalent of kissing your cousin.

i keep hearing that he doesn’t have sideline to sideline speed… which i know is necessary for a good LB… BUT, i still like the smarts this guy has… he can improve the little things and be a #10 pick that we could back on and say " Yeah, he was barely worth that high pick, but we’ll live"

I watched him a fair bit
As an LSU fan and an SEC fan. Never saw him have trouble with sideline to sideline. Then again, at the time I was probably rooting for Bama to lose more than I was watching him as a draft prospect. He always stood out as a guy that would make an insane amount of tackles during a game.

I'm fairly surprised
how well you know this rarely advertised team that only plays the Saints about once every 4 years.
But one thing to add was we had a terrible need for a LT in the draft last year. Yeah we signed Tra Thomas, but he was far from being his former self. So Eugene Monroe was the BAP and a need pick, luckily for us. But you’re right that we are a Best Available Player drafter.
Also I think McClain will be more highly rated by a 34 team. In other words I think someone else is higher on their board than McClain. Not sure who, but I’m almost sure he would lower on the list than some of other the remaining players.
Dan Williams, Price, and Earl Thomas are probably all more highly rated IMO. Probably even Spiller too.
Funny intro BTW.
Of that list, Spiller is the only one I can see higher than McClain, personally.

I'm not as high on Spiller as most people are
He really seemed ineffective in a couple of games I watched him play. Not sure if it was injuries or what. In terms of sheer talent, however, I think he is worth a very high pick.

I forgot to mention
our second round pick in OT Eben Britton, he was totally not a needs pick; as we had a plethora of OT’s at that point.
Hmmm
You are probably right. I remember the Jags drafting an OT last year that many pundits argued as “not a need pick”. I may very well have made the assumption a year removed that they were referring to Monroe.

Thanks
Did a lot of research on this site here. Like most of the SB Nation blogs, it was the best resource where I could find not only intelligent posts, but also intelligent comments from the fans.

PROBABLY RIGHT BUUUUTTT....
Hey , guys, i think it is a great guess, but, im starting to dislike this kid maclain.
I just saw this video, and although he is strong and tackles on his feet, he does look slow, and get seriously distracted with some blocks, forgets the ball. He does have some good reading skills, but, i think he is no MACHINE, and maybe not BAP at 10.
Regarding our last year 1 pick. Its true we had serious need at OT, thats why we had hired tra thomas. And had need at WR, where we hired tory Holt.
So i post this….
He have recently hired Kampman … sooo, we are surely getting new DE this year for Kampman to develop. Just like Tory Holt did, and Tra did.
You guys like that idea?
How bout Derrick Morgan?
I think Morgan
is a definite possibility, but I also don’t think the Kampman signing was a clue as to who we would pick. The AK signing just means we wont be totally without a passrush if we don’t a draft DE.
I like Morgan as a player, but I don't like his position
It hurts me when thinking about drafting a DE at 10 even tho I like Morgan.
