Deon Grant released by the Seahawks
Seems trendy to offer up the "Hey that guy is available, do we want him?" scenario, so here's mine. Does Deon Grant have anything left? And if he does, do the Jags look at bringing him back at the right price? I honestly haven't seen much of him the last couple years with Seattle, but I think he is worth taking a look at . I wouldn't be looking to shell out 4 million a year like he was getting, but I gotta believe that he has SOME sort of value. Especially at the safety position which seems to be open for competition. I get that he is longer in the tooth than most in the youth movement, but competition is competition if he can still bring it. Everything seems dependent on the draft at this point, but if we don't get a safety high in the draft, is Grant an option to bring back in your mind?

I think if
we’re gonna add a saftey in FA (which we should) we should grab Atogwe from St.Louis, and if they decide to match his offer go after someone like Grant, he’s just a bit too old I think
Atogwe would be awesome
Very solid player. But with the protection of the first refusal tender on him, it would take a boat load of cash to get the Rams to not match it. I don’t see Gene and Wayne ponyin up that much cash for a guy not named Ed Reed.
I mean
they should at least try, and see what happens. Put a reasonable offer on him, and see what happens, I mean the Rams front office doesn’t have much for brains to start with, they have drafted Chris Long, Adam Carriker, Tye Hill (who just got released, might be an easy easy cheap pickup), and Jimmy Kennedy to name a few. Maybe they’ll think it’s too much money and let him go
If the Jags could bring back McCree last year
maybe they will try out Grant too

I personally think maybe they’ll jump on it if they can give him vet minimum, McCree was cut and didn’t even make the squad for the regular season…but Grant is over 35 so enh
Waber-Jaguar
Safety
Why not get 1 of the Saints Safeties since they are both available and would upgrade our secondary
Remenber it is not who you are , but what you do that defines you. GO JAGS
Sharper
is really overrated. You think Nelson is a bad tackler. Sharper tackled well late last season, but normally that’s not his game.
Agree
Sharper would drive Del Rio nuts with always being out of position. Takes the risks of a corner, but the position plays the last line of defense in our D. He’s known as the Cover 2 Killer by my buddy who is a Vikings fan. That and he wants a bundle of kaysh. Again, I agree, o-ver-ra-ted.
I think Deon would want to come back down South
just so he could see the sun again. No state taxes and sunshine (at least in theory)… toss in a six pack and a bag of skittles and call it a day.
I don’t know if he has anything left or not, but I think if he does, he fits the one or two year veteran value that Gene likes.
not sure about this
What will make the DBs better, LBs included, is an improved D-line that can knock the mai-tai out of whoever is sitting in a lounge chair in the back field when our defense is on the field. Once pressure is achieved, the trickle down effect will be immeasurable. And if I have misspelled that drink it’s because I don’t drink them, I am Irish
No. No. No. We release, trade, and let players contracts expire for a reason. We do not need an “aging” defensive guy again. We don’t need all this mentoring crap either, that’s what coaches are for.

I get what you're sayin...
But Deon Grant was let go because he could get a ton more money in free agency than we could spend under the salary cap. ANNNNNNNNNNNND we need defensive playmakers period. If Abe Bigoda ever gets up from that hit he took in the Snickers commercial and he can rush the passer, SIGN HIM UP. Filling out the roster with experienced football players is not a bad thing. Too many athletes who can’t react and don’t get the thinking part of the game is a recipe for consistently giving up the big play. Having a vet who can get in a young guy’s face on the field and help walk him through tape, how to set up, ETC is a valuable addition to the locker room. Coaches arent around all the players as much as other players. Locker room is HUGE in the team sport.
IF the price is right AND he still has something in the tank why not bring back a Jag we didn’t necessarily want to let go, we just couldn’t afford?
and i also understand what you’re saying… but, imo, if we bring someone back it had better be a no-brainer… such as a fred taylor type guy… (not fred taylor himself though)… maybe that clarifies my position… i just dont think deon grant is a “holy crap, we need him back!” kinda player

Wouldn't happen
he lacks too much in the passing game to be brought back. He’s not a good pass blocker or pass receiver.
