O.J Atogwe

With the Rams tendering Atogwe at the lowest level, should we make an offer for him? I live in St. Louis and have seen him play a lot and I think he is a very solid Free Safety and would be a huge upgrade over Nelson. We would not have to give up a draft pick for him, he is still pretty young. I am all for it, just wondered what you all thought about the possibility. It would also make us not have to spend a draft pick trying to shore up the secondary.

I said I had a feeling. Of course I cannot know how he will perform in 2010.

But if its anything close to his rookie season I’m good. Reggie just needs to get the mental part of the game down and once he does he will be a very good FS.

What?

Mental part? He needs to get the physical part down first. Did you see the colts game? He can’t tackle the broad side of a barn!

Good

Then we know not to draft him either

What makes you say that?

FYI

He is engaged to Mike Singletary’s daughter… We all know the 49ers need secondary help. (Just a Thought)

Anquan Boldin

Dunta Robinson, Jamarcus Russell. I’m halfway serious about Russell

I Really Do Think

With two years of sitting on the bench under a reduced salary he could develop into a solid, if not great starter. If the Raiders release him I’d jump on him.

Me neither

he doesn’t have any accuracy. And it’s sad just how simple they made that offense for him, and he still struggled. I mean super simple. My high school alma mater runs a more complicated offense. And I’m not even kidding or exaggerating. Granted we had a pretty sophisticated offense with the #2 QB in country, but still that’s crazy.

You know the drill, same as last year.

Hell Yeah

Coles is a good blocker. Unlike Sir Holt who didn’t like to get his royal uniform dirty.

Holt got

his uniform dirty to some extent. I think his problem was, he wanted to see the ball more.
And Coles…well his hands aren’t what they used to be.
I don’t expect any WR’s from FA.

Ribault Alumni........

I wanted him last year!!!!! but he is kinda old now. No doubt he would bring his A game to his hometown.

He would be

a solid pick up i think for the nickel spot, give tyron some more time to mature and get better, especially since i bet we can pick him up cheap as hell

by bigkorean on Mar 5, 2010 11:38 PM EST up reply actions

Atogwe's Great

but he’s 29 years old, and the Jags only have 5 picks at the moment. As bad as safety has been a safety like Atogwe would be expensive to resign and the Jags have bigger fish to fry than safety.

Ignore the hype; look at the results.

by harperslaw on Mar 5, 2010 10:28 AM EST reply actions

the rams dont want picks for Atogwe

They put the lowest tender on him, meaning they just have the chance to match the offer of other teams. We could get him without pick compensation. i think he is well worth the money and he is still young.

Ah, gotcha

I didn’t realize it was just right of first refusal; if the price is right that’d be solid.

Ignore the hype; look at the results.

by harperslaw on Mar 5, 2010 11:11 AM EST up reply actions

Wait, it would require a 3rd rounder

per Ask Vic this morning:
“There are four tender levels for restricted free agents. At the low tender, the original team retains right of first refusal and would be compensated with a draft choice the equal of the round in which the player was originally selected. Then there’s a second-round tender, a first-round tender and a first and third-round tender.”

I take it back; I’d save the pick. I’d rather have a 24 year old with a 3rd round pick than a 29 year old.

Ignore the hype; look at the results.

by harperslaw on Mar 5, 2010 11:27 AM EST up reply actions

so a third rounder????

yeah we definitely cant do that….. damn RFA’s

Per NFL.com
Rams executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff announced during an online chat Thursday that the team has placed a low tender (right of first refusal) on FS Oshiomogho Atogwe, who played under the franchise tender in 2009.

Demoff explained the decision during a live chat on StLouisRams.com.

"We have tendered Oshiomogho Atogwe at the Right of First Refusal level, which allows us the chance to match any offer sheet he signs between now and the week before the draft," Demoff wrote. "Should O.J. not sign an offer sheet, his rights would revert back to the Rams. On June 1st, we have the option to either increase his salary to nearly $7 million or to release him and let him be an unrestricted free agent.

"We could not have asked for O.J. to handle his situation better than he did last year. I remain optimistic that we will be able to work out a long-term deal with O.J., and this is the first step in that process."

Per NFL.com

So right of first refusal, but apparently no pick.

by alwaysforgiven821 on Mar 5, 2010 8:02 PM EST reply actions

That is correct… Anyone that offers him a deal, Rams can match. If Rams dont match, we walks with NO compensation.

I say do it

he is a good safety and could challenge nelson to do something with his life, another option could be ryan clark, he’s not great but would be a solid player i believe

by bigkorean on Mar 5, 2010 11:41 PM EST reply actions

Is there any

new news about this, I heard that the Rams are bringing in Brodney Pool, so that definitely could make Atogwe expendable
