With the 13th selection the SF 49ers select Rolando McClain LB Alabama
The SF 49er have Patrick Willis as a standout Inside Linebacker and they play a very aggressive 3-4 defense. Sergio Kindle was a name hotly debated in the draft room as time began to expire. Mike Singletary had to break up the heated debate and chose solid leadership over pure speed. Takeo Spikes is about to enter his 14th year in the NFL and may be ready to bow to youth. Rolando McClain recorded 53 solo tackles in his Senior year and will be ready day one to assume a leadership position. If there was ever a perfect match, Rolando McClain and the 49ers are it.

Very very good pick
I have isses with Samiurai Mike; but sure he knows how an LB can play. He made a star from Willis; he will from McClain too. Very; very good pic; and I think Rolando will be a Willis caliber LB!

In following plenty of Niners talk, speculations, and looking at their needs, I think Spiller goes to the Niners here. However, if he’s off the board, I think McClain is a possibility. LB isn’t a huge area of need, though. OT would also be an area of need for the Niners.

I am not a "needs" based drafter - sorry

I agree, Good pick
My thinking is if you don’t take him, someone else will.

Nasty pick!
Personally I believe you can never have enough stud defensive players. So what they have Willis? Scary to think of McClain next to Willis – like the old Ravens D with all the beastly LBs they had.
