Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

The New Jaguars 2010 class

Hey guys, what are youre thoughts on the signings of Aaron Kampman and Kassim Osgood?

Do you think Kampman immediately will become starter at either RDE or LDE once hes healthy?

How about Osgood, he is very interesting as he admits the Jaguars want him to "continue his special-teams dominance" but will give him a shot at becoming part of the recieving rotation...who do you think starts next to Mike Sims-Walker....Troy Williamson, Kassim Osgood, or one I think does have an outside shot back at WR Ernest Wilford?

2nd wr?

Sooo I’m kind of skeptical of Osgood stepping in and being our #2… He’s a special teams ace and has some talent but to expect him to step into that role right away is difficult for me. I think his talent and depth is much needed as our wr corps needs some help.

yes I designed the poll to reflect my thoughts on his potential, I doubt he can play slot (hes far too tall, as we learned with Matt Jones ), however he is more accomplished then both Jarrett Dillard, Tiquan Underwood and Nate Hughes, though Troy Williamson is a better reciever he is injury prone and less then 6 foot, not a prototypical Y reciever

yeah

I hope he steps in and kicks ass right away. I’m interested in seeing what Dillard will do this year.

I see him becoming a red zone target with his size, and a home run threat with his speed.

Maybe not always lining up at the #2 spot, but certainly ending up there situationally (red zone, 2nd & short play action bombs, etc.)

I think he can be

an upgraded Wilford. Big guy that can also get downfield.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 7, 2010 10:09 PM EST up reply actions

I think Osgood will sorta inherit the #2 Spot from torry,

I think we maximize Thomas’s effectiveness as a slot guy. All the other WRs ( Williamson, Dilliard, the 10 homeless guys) still have to prove it.

I think Kampmen has at least 2 good quality seasons. He should immediantely start at either DE spot, probably at Groves spot. I don’t think we’re paying him to be a backup to Hayward if we re-sign Hayward.

I think

picking where everyone should go is trickier than can be anticipated. Too many variables with the injuries etc.
Depending on AK and Hayday’s health Harvey could start on the left with Mincey on the right.
Once everyone is healthy I would put Harvey back on the right along with Groves and have the vets(AK/RH) on the left.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 7, 2010 10:13 PM EST up reply actions

Sounds like Kampman will be on the right

and Harvey will be on the left, this makes sense I think Harvey is pretty good against the run and let the premier pass rusher do his thing against the LT.

by Jermaside4 on Mar 8, 2010 3:46 PM EST up reply actions

yeah I think the FO is mad at Heyward for jumping at free agency like he did, they would probably prefer Heyward and Kampman, Harvey and groves rotation at DE. the best Jags pass rush of JDR era came with rotation between Spicer, heyward, Meier, McCray and Jeremy Mincey

Waber-Jaguar

by jawsaints on Mar 7, 2010 9:25 PM EST reply actions

They're not mad

they know it’s a business.
As many defensive linemen we now have on roster, we may have to trade Big Henderson and or Groves away.
At DE we got 7 without rookies:AK, Hayday(Likely), Harvey, Groves, Mincey, Julius Williams, Brian Smith(Plus other that wont make it)
At DT we got without rookies: Knighton, Henderson, Stanley, Ellison, Curry, Greg Peterson

Speaking of AK, is his jersey #47?

The answer is yes

IF you’re someone suffering from dyslexia.
In other words, he’s gonna be #74 like in GB.

I was just trying to see if I could make him a nickname

Ah!

Nice. I think he’ll be taking 74 from Walter Curry.

Ak-74

Is a gun as well. Though Ak47 is definitely more popular and badass sounding. Ha

I'm pretty sure

that’s what he was getting at.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 9, 2010 2:55 PM EST up reply actions

just make sure he doesn’t re-do the knee that would royally suck! (rememeber Greg Jones did his ACL a few years back and became a primary FB and rarely a runner)

Yep

but one of the most iconic weapons is the Ak47, but we can call him Ak74 too.

height

3 years ago all of our receivers were atleast 6.2 most were like 6.4 that didnt work out out of those 5 receivers one player on our team remains ernest wilford the rest are gone cuz they sucked we are totally revamping our team, and our wr’s should be mixed in height. Osgood i think will work his way up the chart and veuntally will rotate with the line as a 2 string WR. Now kampman even if he doesn’t produce for us, he can be like torry holt, and influence our d-line man and teach them!

by rhettchrystal on Mar 8, 2010 9:46 AM EST reply actions

that was the issue, of all of the three drafted ‘tall guys’ only Wilford actually produced before 2007, Williams hasn’t been in football since 2008, Jones is getting a shot but they admitted he had a bad workout. The point I was making was Jones was ‘top-end’ fast but a long strider and really didn’t care at all; but of the 2007 recievers only Wilford and Northcutt were of substance, Northcutt is off in DET (where he might lose his place) but we brought back the good one

Waber-Jaguar

by jawsaints on Mar 8, 2010 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

but now no reciever is over 6’1 except Osgood and the only one who plays tall is Sims-Walker, so it’s good to now have a tall guy again that can actually play. I believe though if injuries got too bad Wilford would be back at WR

by jawsaints on Mar 8, 2010 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

Kampman will be the right DE

Who’s going to beat him out??? We’re talking a Pro-Bowl DE. Harvey has no doubt taken over the left DE spot. Instantly we have a Pro-Bowl pass rusher on the other side – unless he reinjures the ACL or has a major setback it’s his job to lose.

Osgood is a different story, he’s obviously a baller, anyone who is a Pro-Bowl special teams player every year. He’s big & fast, too talented to not compete for the #2 spot. Williamson didn’t have much competition last year, but if he beats out Osgood & the 2nd year guys, more power to him. At the very least he is our red zone WR along with Sims-Walker.

Red Zone

Need to have another good option in the red zone and special teams ace.
Great Pick-up. Maybe the best one of fee=agency. Guy gets to score touchdowns ever time he is in the game and great pedigree. IGWT

I think we have enough

redzone threats now.

4. Williamson & Wilford
5. Dillard

I think they want Kampman as RDE but either spot he's good.

i think you nailed the depth charts rhett, but i think they’ll put him on the right to minimize his ACL injury’s effect on his passrush (he is more of a bullrusher). I only think the 2nd and 4th slots might be completely up in the air for the WRs and maybe I think they do six like the beginning of last year

Waber-Jaguar

by jawsaints on Mar 9, 2010 2:46 PM EST reply actions

I don't think

Wilford will make the team this year.
And I think the the number 2 WR will be a rotation between Osgood and Williamson.

by Ewdtrey on Mar 9, 2010 3:00 PM EST up reply actions

It's early to be saying anyone nailed anything

Last year at this time we were saying the offensive line would go:
Thomas Manuwai Meester Williams Pashos

I would have kept

Williams had he been healthy

by Ewdtrey on Mar 10, 2010 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

they went out to re-sign him instead of leaving the 3rd TE open, I think its his for the taking…remember when both Wrighster and Estandia went down and we had Angulo and Smolko?

yeah I just like Wilford as a WR, hes more of a TE though…and they did use him in tight situtaions like short yardage, and he did run a beautiful out in the HOU game…Miller though is kind of bumping him to 3rd TE and ST

by jawsaints on Mar 9, 2010 3:07 PM EST reply actions

Right now I think he's being viewed as

a injury back up good character that wont break the bank, and has some versatility as a receiver and blocker, along with solid hands usually. Barring injury however, I don’t think he makes the team.
