Steelers shopping Big Ben for top 10 pick?
Who would give the 10th overall pick up for Big Ben?
I would in a heartbeat, he would change this franchises future.
The guy is a proven winner, hasnt been proved to have committed any crimes yet and is just coming into the prime of his career. If we could get Ben in this draft, we could trade Garrard away for a 5th/6th or whatever we could pick up and focus the rest of the draft on the D. Ben has played behind a scrub line with the Steelers for years, and i believe that our line is certainly no worse than theirs.
We could play McCown for the first 4 games whilst Ben is suspended, and probably wouldnt win.. but we have the offensive talent to go 12-0 in the last 4 games.. BR & MJD & MSW. = $$
I am so pumped right now, about the opportunity.. i just hope we have the balls to make the move!
We missed out in 2005, dont do it to me again jags! (yes im very much aware that we drafted BL in 2004.)

He has off the field issues...
I don’t see Gene or JDR wanting a problem child in Jacksonville. And I for one don’t want Rapistberger in teal either.
off the field issues?
im sorry, i dont see it.
hes not a problem child, and its not been proven that he did anything wrong yet.
-this guy would bring the jaguars a superbowl. FACT.
if you read the police report
and the statement made by the young ladies that he exposed himself into GA you know it is matter of time before he is caught for what he is doing. The only reason he has gotten away with it is apparently no one in Mayberry has watched CSI and doesn’t know not to let the janitor clean a crime scene. Hell the cop doing the instigation was to busy getting photos with Ben for his collection then interviewing potential witnesses.
maybe I am biased, i do have a hatred for the steelers that is only rivaled by my hatred for the UVA Cavilers
Joey, Joey, Joey....
Three incidents:
1. A motorcycle crash
2. Sexual Assault
3. Sexual Assault
Not a problem child? Are you insane? Big Ben does not live his life in anyway that makes me think he puts his football career, his team, or his community first. It’s all about HIM! That pisses off players and the surrounding community. We need to build a sense of community and produce wins, and I do not see Ben’s way of life contributing to that, and obviously neither do some in Pittsburgh. In my opinion, Ben will be a Steeler next year, but I think the prime of his career, unless he changes a bunch, is behind him!
That situation was different.....
As a Cowboy fan through those years, I believe there were more criminals that non criminals on those teams….and yes it worked! Your point is good. I don;t thin kit is a good plan for this town or this team!
Have you read the book
Boys will be Boys: The Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty" by Jeff Pearlman? It is absolutely insane and a must read. Absolutely phenomenal job by Pearlman.
Things it talks about:
Irvin stabbed a teammate in the kneck with a pair of scissors; would sleep with five women at a time; Jerry Jones would only allow single, beautiful busty women from American Airlines to service their charter flights… etc.
Look up the story of Robert Jones, LB. His story should be made into a movie. Crazy crazy. That was just a couple things off the top of my head. The whole book is insane. Jimmy Johnson was a freaking crazy man.
it may have not been proven yet
but it is far from done. More incidents are coming out from other girls in GA and the are finding out that off duty PA cops covered alot of this up and maybe even participated in this assault. This is not the Duke Lacross team. BB is going to be in jail so the only uniform he should be wearing is an orange jumpsuit.

i see what youre saying
but imagine big ben drowning the colts, smashing the titans and stomping all over the texans. that would create the greatest jaguar community.
I don't think
he could do it with this team. The Steelers had a top defense. They year the D somewhat fell apart they looked horrible. Ben couldn’t do anything right. Not to mention, he’s probably the most hated man in the NFL. He’’s also probably past his prime by now, considering the way he plays. Not to mention, he’s gonna be suspended at least 4 weeks and likely 6. We would easily be out of the playoff race by then, and that would likely hinder us from drafting one of the better QB’s next year.
I'm glad you brought that up.
Saves me the trouble of typing all of that. He’s good, but not good enough to win games by himself. He has the rings because Pittsburgh’s defense is tops, Willie Parker was in his prime, and Hines Ward/Santonio Holmes(for the most recent one) were on fire.
also i think the old “change of scenery” thing might get him to take a look at his life and straighten it up…….if he knows one team will ship him out for suspected bad behavior then maybe he’ll fly right so to speak….
Up here in Stiller country...
The fan base is turning against him more and more. I think the Stillers FO is as well. I’m not saying we get him, but I could see this being a possiblity for some team. Just not the Jags.
Also, a top 10 first rounder?! I think not. Not with that baggage. With any additional problems he could be susupended for a whole season. Nobody wants that headache! Especially when you’re trying to build a consistent winner.
I'll be your dog, just don't treat me like one....
my guess
is if this is true, it will be Oakland that pulls the trigger on him. Al Davis is a rapist himself
a superstar QB being on the block happens every once in a blue moon…………if you have the opportunity to get that guy, you pull the trigger. character issues be damned.
IMO of course……..
Look at that Cutler deal
Just look at what happened when the lowly Orton switched places with Cutler. The game isn’t just about the QB.
That's why I wouldn't take him.
I don’t care about anything else. Losing 4-6 games this year, and the fact that if he gets in trouble again could mean a whole season. No thanks!
I'll be your dog, just don't treat me like one....
Let me clarify..
The reason I don’t care about the other issues is because he has yet to charged, and hauled into court. However, where there is smoke, there is usually fire.
I'll be your dog, just don't treat me like one....
After reading the link that Vic posted, I tend to agree
I'll be your dog, just don't treat me like one....
The cop didn't just look the other way.
The cop happened to be employed by him that night. Reading through the article via Vic, the cop was his escort around town for the night.
Not to mention he's not as good as advertised.
He won with that crazy defense and good play from Willie Parker/Hines Ward/Santonio Holmes. Just look at this past season. The guy’s apparently an arrogant douche, isn’t great, and will likely miss a quarter of the season (probably more if it happens again). Not worth the 10th pick.
I have to disagree with some of what you're saying.
He may not be great, but he certainly is better than most.
Douche bag- check
Arrogant- check (by the way, he’s not the only one to be considered arrogant as an NFL QB)
Not great- check
Clutch when it counts- Definitely
Time and time again he has underperformed in many games, and their defense kept them in it. However, when it came down to it, he has delivered on several occasions, and you can’t dispute that.
With that being said, I still don’t want him. Almost half the season gone, and another violation will probably get him suspended for the season. NO THANK YOU!!!
I'll be your dog, just don't treat me like one....
If you guys are willing to take Ben......
maybe we can get Mike Vick as the back-up. And maybe when they get in trouble again, the judge will look at their time on the field as work release or community service.
If the Pittsburgh front office thinks he is not worth it, I am damn sure he is not worth it. Also keep in mind that Ben likes to hang onto the ball and extend the play. Often, that has paid off in big gains, but often it has led to him getting crushed. This is a bad decision for the Jags, and one that i am sure will not happen!
Great points! Although extending the play has earned him 2 SB rings.
I still wouldn’t cut off my nose to spite my face.
I'll be your dog, just don't treat me like one....
The team around him
has a lot more to do with the 2 SB rings. In fact he almost cost them that first SB. Where would he be now if James Harrison didn’t take a int to the house to end the first half? Yeah he was clutch in that game, but the team kept him in it, which is more than I can say about our defense. As soon as Garrard threw his pick against the Pats last early in the game, there was no coming back. There was no 4th qtr to back from.
I was just speaking to the one area that GAJAGFAN was addressing.
Which was the ability to extend the play. No question it was the Defense and others around him, but the others around him (offense) don’t succeed if BB is not pulling the trigger.
Regardless of what the defense did, and they did alot!
I'll be your dog, just don't treat me like one....
i dont often agree with colin cowherd but he had a point when he said “the NFL isnt in the morality business, its in the winning football games business”
He won't be winning many games suspended or in jail
The guy has a trail of women accusing him, and while he hasn’t been convicted, it’s got to be worrisome for the Steelers. Rumor is he’s a prima donna (even Hines Ward called Ben out last season), and Tomlin is sick of his attitude.
Then there’s the issue of his contract:
“3/3/2008: Signed an eight-year, $102 million contract. The deal contains $33.2 million guaranteed, including a $25.2 million signing bonus and a $3 million roster bonus in the second year. Also included is a clause forbidding Roethlisberger from participating in “hazardous activities,” e.g. riding a motorcycle with no helmet. 2010: $8.05 million, 2011-2014: $11.6 million, 2015: $12.1 million, 2016: Free Agent"
That’s a lot of money for a guy that is one drunken titty-slap away from being suspended for a year or prosecuted.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.
bad business

Yeah - but I also see the point of protecting your product / brand
having bad people playing a damn near unwatchable game did wonders for the NBA
This has Oakland written all over it
What would be fair? Swapping 1st and throwing in the Raiders 2nd and 3rd? Or with the Raiders probably give the Steelers their 1st and Namdi for Ben straight up.

Simple Solution
Wayne sends the Jet to pick up Big Ben. He lands in Jax. Before he even makes it to the Stadium he goes to First Baptist downtown for his press conference. BB announces that he has turned to God for his mistakes and will become a born again. Franklin Graham is there as his spiritual advisor and everyone in Jax will forgive before he reaches the Stadium. It is all good!

Honestly
I would become even less a fan of Roethlisberger if he did that

Gene
will never ever, ever, ever, trade for Big Ben. Whoever thinks he will has never heard him. He is a man of the draft, and keeps all the picks he can get. He wont give away a top ten for any single player.
