Best Reason I Have Heard To Draft Tebow
"Because People in the Mid-West Will Get Excited About the Jaguars"
For the record, I believe in drafting Tebow as long as he is BAP (if and when) he is determined to be picked by Gene Smith. Where that is? Definitely not at #10 and probably not until Round 3, but anyway.... I had a good conversation with two co-workers (Gator Homers) who declared that the Jaguars should take Tim Tebow at #10. They were off the wagon for the last two months, but since watching the Jon Gruden interview and reports of his new throwing motion, are convinced that Tebow is worth the #10 pick. So an argument pursued and went back and forth. The argument was that it would be good for the Jags to draft Tebow b/c it would bring excitement for Jacksonville. Not too hard to argue, but how does that translate to wins? Back and forth some more and then the next point was that people in the mid-West would start to follow the Jaguars b/c they follow Tim Tebow and they would buy jerseys. Same question, how does that translate into wins? So some guy in Iowa buys a Tim Tebow jersey and that solves all the problems for the franchise? What is the logic in that? My answer is winning solves the problems, not jersey sales, so get players who help you win and not gamble on a player who has to fundamentally change his entire throwing motion. So back and forth some more and the final point was to look at what LeBron James did for the Cleveland Cavilers. They were a small market team, now everyone knows who LeBron is and the Cavs are a great NBA team and the same thing would happen here in Jacksonville. At that point, I didn't feel like arguing anymore. What are you supposed to say to that? Feel free to post the best reason to draft Tebow that you have ever heard, though think it might be hard to top this one!

No, no, NO!!!
The Midwest is all about the Vikings, Packers, and Bears. They live and breathe Brett Favre. They could give a flying frack about the Jaguars quarterback. No way, no how.

I am from the midwest
My going joke is there is only one Jag fan around here and you are looking at him.
(I am almost close to converting my wife)
Do not pick players
for marketing reasons!

uh, that could be read another way too (my brother pointed out the joke)
but i think it is a virtual certainty that gene smith will make some move to get tebow, I personally say let the vikings or somebody draft him and then trade reggie nelson and a 6th rounder for tebows rights
Waber-Jaguar
or the Raiders at #8
The best case scenario for Jax would be for some stupid team to take him ahead of where we pick.
I can only hope
If this happens, the Raiders helped us out twice this year. No better place to send him. How funny would it be if Jamarcus Russell wins the starting job over Tebow…

There is one key flaw with the LeBron James argument.....
He is one of the best basketball players ever….he is Jordan like. Do you really think the same can be said about Tebow? You are right, winning solves a teams problems, not jersey sales, and LeBron helps them win….not the case with Tim!
now that we have aquirred another 5th round pickk, should we trade on of our picks and a 6th or fifth/fourth for a second round pick to pick tebow up??
If the Jags waste a pick on Tebow, I will seriously consider not being a fan anymore.
Not because I"m a Nole. Tebow’s a remarkable young man with great character. But because I cannot support an organization that spends its money in such an incredibly stupid way. The LAST thing that the team should spend its money on is QB who’s been throwing in an “nfl style” for only about 3 months now, after 4 years of bad habits and poor mechanics. WINS bring more fans, not somebody who won’t even see the field until year 2 or 3. Though actually, I might go to a game just to see him get knocked around…
There's a time and place for it.
One player isn’t really a good reason, but the orange day for the lions bengals game was a great message to the Ford family to get rid of Matt Millen. A GM or coach would be cause for fan revolt, but one bad draft pick is excusable.

I didn't say I absolutely wouldn't be a fan...
I said I would consider it. May be a bit of hyperbole on my part, but Tebow would just be one of many terrible choices to come in the draft recently from the Jags. If their strategy is to draft Tebow to attract fans, I will absolutely lose my faith in the organization. I’ll always be a fan, but bottom line, wins bring the fans, not a second round popular face who will most likely not succeed at the NFL level. Given, I could be completely wrong and he could end up being the greatest QB to ever play in the NFL, and if that happens, I’ll eat some serious crow. But he probably won’t, and I’d rather see some smart picks made here. We haven’t had too much success in the draft recently, and I’d really like to see us turn that around.
I agree with your thoughts.....
and you may see some of the recent big picks (Harvey and Monroe) break out this year! I just think Tebow / Gator fans that make the treats to the team sound so freaking stupid, I knew you did not really feel the way your statement was coming across.
Man
the elation I would feel if Harvey became a pro bowler… That would make arguing for him unnecessary and it would cut down on some of my repetitive discussions the former 1st round pick..
