Kuharsky: What if the Jaguars are right?
For anyone who feels the Jaguars get roasted by the media, give this one a read. Rather than fall into the "mock logic", Paul offers up a wait and see approach to evaluating the shock that was the Alualu selection. If Gene hits on this pick he becomes the poster child for the Anti-Mocker and puts the jester hat on the likes of Kiper. As PK notes, "So what if it’s Smith and his scouting department that saw this clearly, and it’s all the teams that valued Alualu less that were blinded to an accurate value? Then we won’t be talking about a reach when the fair time frame for evaluating arrives. We’ll be talking about Smith’s courage and praising him for how bold he was." Beyond the fact that this is a positive article on the Jaguars, I appreciate a journalist who actually evaluates the action as opposed to comparing it against the prevailing thought. Many of us have complained about the narcissism of post draft grading and the "mock mentality". Maybe instead of evaluating whether a team agreed with "my" prediction, we re-evaluate ourselves and ask what "I" missed.
