Kiper SLAMS Gene...Good GM could have Alualu AND Tebow?
I am not a fan of kiper, but he makes a valid point about the #10 pick....In summary he says it is not just enough to like a guy, but you have to understand his market value....
If you love a house, and think it is worth 200k, it is foolish to go out there and buy it for 200k if every other buyer thinks it is worth 100k....That is what Kiper is saying.
i am adding this fact ---Could a clever Gm have gotten both Alualu AND Tebow with the 10th pick?
Denver basically did - they moved back, packaged there first pick with a few late rounders, and basically ended up with 2 picks in the 20's, right where Alualu and Tebow should have gone.

Tebow
We probably could have gotten TA later in the first round but I don’t really think they even wanted Tebow??? GM had a great draft last year, lets have faith!!

I’m curious to see what they do to address that, are we going to start the season with RN and Alexander?? The thought of that is kinda scary!!!
They could very well stand to benefit from all of the attention paid to the defensive line and linebacker during this draft.
Nelson’s always had the talent; now he might have the pass rush he’s always needed. I feel like the Jaguars are going to see about Nelson this year and make a decision regarding him next offseason. He’s been set up to win, in other words. This is his last chance.

Pass Rush
Not to kick a dead horse but, I really thought we addressed the pash rush last offseason and……..
Really? All the Jags added was Knighton.
Last offseason was about the offensive line and WRs.

Gerald Alexander is pretty good.
Our Safetys cant stay covering a guy around the whole field all game every play, for 1m a play, cuz our pass rush, is letting him sit there.

great draft coverage
Long time reader frist time poster. First I would like to say the coverage has been great and thanks for all thae hard work. Who is to say that Denver would not have given up even more to get what they wanted. The Jags did not have the picks to get Tebow unless the traded and with every one droping back maybe they felt like the guy we got was one of the last big guys worth that pick. Kiper also said what a great job the jags did trading up to get Harvey and tradeing down to get Reggie. I do,t care what he says. If we learned anything is that the big guys only last so long and the skill guys we can get latter.

GM
If TA And at least one other pick have a good year he’ll be the leagues next “talent guru” I personally have faith in him, this is a hobby/interest for me, he gets paid to make these types of decisions(and do the homework)
Nobody realy questioned
gm Gene last year so why start now
give our new jagz a change everyone
they look like good players
by the way my udfa sleeper is Chris Hawkins CB from LSU
On the contrary
Just about EVERYBODY questioned Gene last year…. they just all turned out to be wrong. Hopefully, it will be the same this year … and next year…. and the year after.
Eventually, the talking heads might just get too scared to criticize Gene because he makes them look silly.
1. The Jags were never going to draft Tebow, barring him slipping to the 7th round
2. It’s a whole lot easier to click that you like something on facebook or write it out on a message board than actually plopping down $300 on Jags season tickets because of Tebow

Terrible options for the poll!
Where is the: The Jags got what they should have – and good luck to Tebow.

+1
that’s exactly what I was thinking. If anyone in the first round reached and gave up too much for a player, it was the Denver Broncos.
If Smith was really high on Tyson Alualu, it only takes 1 other GM to like him that you would lose him if you trade back.
Kiper doesn't know
Whose to say Alualu would’ve fallen enough for Jags to trade back both guys.
Gene is a great scout and a better G.M. I personally cant wait for Alualu to blow up and make Mel’s hairline recede just alittle bit more.
Did any1 ever think about when we drafted R. Nelson, he was good that season, we had a good D then, now our D sucks, and every1 blames Nelson.
He will be better this year, I have faith
Any secondary will look better with quarterbacks under pressure, Aaron Kampman at 80% still gets 7-8 sacks which means TE slides to him instead of double teaming Harvey like they did last year, which means Harvey will get there more. Knighton swallows up two guys Alualu goes one on one with a guard, and from tape I have a lot of confidence that with his hands, his moves and his motor he can beat most guards one on one on a regular basis. Now we will have pressure from interior and both sides. Its easy to pick apart a defense when you have all day, can set your feet and find the open guy. When you are running for your life windows close a lot faster. Our pass rush is going to be alot better thus R Nelson and the rest of the secondary will be better!
Bad analogy
In the house example, every person has an equal opportunity to buy the house. It isn’t as if all 32 teams bid at one time. Furthermore, if you aren’t getting value in trading back, why do it? Kiper’s argument is predicated on the belief that even if the Jags got the bad side of a deal, they are still able to get Alualu at his “market value”. How is that a win for the Jags if they don’t get “market value” with the draft spot of the picks they gain?
The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.

Who cares? If Alualu is phenomenal and one of McCoy and Suh get hurt or don’t pan out, which of the experts will be the first to say they could have/should have drafted Alualu above them? Value in two years is more important to me than value the day of the draft. Until Gene gives me reason no to, the guy has my confidence. He watches tape like I breathe. Do your thing Gene, in two more years Kiper and McShay will sit in awe every time you pull another name out that no one else has heard of. My thinking is the comment will be, “Well I’ve never heard of him, but Gene Smith proves me wrong every year so I guess I’ll be quiet.” That ORRRRRR, “Oh yeah, this guy wasn’t on my board, but I knew about him all along.”
ahh… who gives a shit… what’s done is done… let’s sit back and wait for the Oklahoma drill, baby!!
