Some Duck's 2011 Big Board: First 16
Early? Hell no. Its time to get back into the draft mood. In the next month or so I'll put up a full first 32. Here is my first 16 to get everyone in the drafting spirit... again.
Feel free to poke, prod, textually rape, whatever. Let me hear what you think. This has a Jaguars tint to it, thats why I'm posting it here. Still best overall, but in some cases, for the Jaguars.
* Denotes year(s) of eligibility left.
1. Jake Locker, QB: Physical specimen with the live arm of Jamarcus , the accuracy of Bradford, and the running speed of Mike Vick. My official man crush candidate of 2011.
2. Robert Quinn, DE: Considered to be a top five talent. Pro-ready with even more potential to expand upon. ***
3. Christian Ponder, QB: Great all around prospect who is relatively pro ready. Can make all the throws, and accuracy and decision making improved greatly from sophomore to junior season.
4. Marvin Austin, DE: Opposite from Quinn, makes plays at the other end spot on the North Carolina defense. Pro-ready prospect, who along with Quinn looks to be a perennial pro bowler. ***
5. Marcus Cannon, T: Athletic tackle from one of the nations biggest sweet hearts.
6. Michael Floyd, WR: Could easily become the most sought after receiver in the draft with a year similar to his former teammate Golden Tate's 2009 campaign. ***
7. DaQuan Bowers, DE: Physical specimen from Clemson. Is built like a linebacker, and personally my favorite end recruit for the 2011 draft if he comes out. ***
8. Patrick Peterson, CB: After being thrown to the wolves as a freshman and having a nice season as a sophomore, Peterson is set for a top ten worthy junior season. Could become a shutdown corner. ***
9. Clint Bollig, T: A solid tackle who could raise or lower his stock depending on his junior season. Will most likely come out if he performs well. ***
10. Mark Ingram, RB: Any Heisman winner at running back is selected top ten, if not fifteen. Plenty of teams could benefit from the boost Ingram would provide a running game. ***
11. Julio Jones, WR: A disappointing sophomore season for some, a junior season similar to his freshman year could earn him a high draft stock. ***
12. Michael Morgan, LB: A USC backer who makes plays all over the field. Can play all three positions in the 4-3.
13. Jonathan Baldwin, WR: A Pittsburgh product. Could put up great numbers if his quarterback play improves further. Runs crisp routes and is prepared for the NFL in a pro style offense. ***
14. Ras-I Dowling, CB: Almost came out this year, and received a probable late first early second grade. Will challenge Peterson for the title of best cornerback in the country.
15. Andrew Luck, QB: The Stanford product could challenge Ponder and Locker for the top ranking among quarterbacks. Is intelligent and pro-ready. ***
16. A.J. Green, WR: Comes down to preference with receivers. Green is big and fast. Needs to improve his route running to solidify a top half first selection, but is a physically gifted receiver who makes plays week in week out.
The 2011 class, looking at it early, appears to be stock full of QBs and wide receivers. A team in need of offensive fire power picked a good need to have. There are plenty of receivers and quarterbacks who didn't make my top sixteen that could be first round, if not top sixteen selections. Blaine Gabbert(QB), Kyle Rudolf(TE/WR), Armon Binns(WR), Darvin Adams(WR), and Jacory Harris(QB) have a lot of first round potential if they have good junior/senior seasons.
Let me hear your thoughts...

I'd love if you continued to do this
I would’ve had Luck a lot higher, but to each their own. Can’t go wrong with Locker or Ponder either.
Good post.

Thanks bro.
Those top three QBs really do just come down to preference. Luck could be the first selected with a good season, especially if Stanford wins the Pac-10. I read an article the other day on how they could beat out USC and Oregon for the title.

They actually had a decent shot last year
There’s no run away team in the Pac-10 right now. USC, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford and Arizona all had a shot to take control at one point or another.

"Early? Hell no. Its time to get back into the draft mood."
And after reading that, I spooned out my own eyeballs to avoid reading further. Back in the draft mood? Back into a burning building? Back into an alligator pond? These are all bad ideas.

Haha, I read the poll on my way to commenting.
This isn’t to knock your work at all. I’m just not ready for this.

Haha
I assumed there would be this reaction from someone. I can’t get enough of the draft and I doubt I’m alone.

Same here
I love the draft. I was pissed that I was never able to finish my seven rounder for this years draft. I love the draft as much as the regular season.

I think we might go draft offense more next year
Get a QB, and maybe a playmaker too.

If we don’t trade up to get one of the top three QBs, we could pick up one of the other few that are first round worthy, or grab one of the wide outs. Blaine Gabbert from Missouri is a guy I really like. Live arm, pretty good accuracy, and can run of course. ;) Depending on how everything falls we could have a good shot at Jonathan Baldwin or Julio Jones.

I think next year
QB would be our first round pick followed by interior of the O line back to back to back.
Yeah
We don’t have to trade up to get a talented QB. There are a ton of them next year who are draft eligible.

Ponder
is my favorite QB coming into this season. I may be slightly biased due to the fact I’m an FSU fan, but I truly believe he is pro-ready and confident.
I’ve had a bad dream where the Colts draft him to replace Peyton Manning.. the horror.
Haha
That would be horrible.

I can't believe you compared Locker to two former busts
But nice list, nonetheless

Thanks man
I compared certain attributes, and Mike Vick isn’t a bust.

They may share some attributes
But if I were a GM that drafts Locker, I would hope he doesn’t turn out like both of those players.
