Tyson Alualu's stock soared until he became a logical choice for Jaguars
That started to change when Alualu played in the Senior Bowl.
"They couldn't block him in the game or the practices, and people started liking him a little more, and he goes to the combine, and his numbers were outstanding," McDonough said. "So he's great on tape. He's great at the Senior Bowl, and he's great at the combine."
By then, McDonough, who didn't visit Cal during the season, was giving Alualu an in-depth look.
"I called up Gene [Smith, Jaguars general manager] and said, 'Gene, this guy is a first-rounder,' " McDonough said.
I believe Gene and Crew may have found a Gem.

1. Welcome.
2. You are replacing a player that has put in his dues and spilled blood for this team, you had better prove to yourself that “you” were worth our 1st round pick.
3. Show “us” you are a 1st round pick Sept. 12, 2010 thru Jan. 31, 2011.

Alualu pick set tone for new identity on Defense.
I woulda taken Spiller over him if he was there. Earl Thomas would have been a good addition but Tyson Alualu could have much needed impact on D. Jags are seriously looking to revamp the 14 sack D of a season ago. Interior pressure is critical.
First 2 picks Alualu and D’Anthony Smith are athletic penetrators that can be greatly complemented by the Knight. They give the team a new dynamic of speed and disruption. I look to see them play DE at times too.
These picks set the tone for the draft which was clearly focused on pass rush. Larry Hart has enormous potential as well as Austen Lane. All of these picks have the attacker mentality- potentially greatly upgrading the team as a whole.

Woah woah woah, you can't just abandon your homeboy like that.
There are words to describe how much you loved Spiller, but they’re unspeakable. He’s the next Chris Johnson plus Barry Sanders plus only the good parts of Reggie Bush and possibly Jesus himself. You can’t just bail on him now!
In Gene We Trust.

Well prior to the day of the draft I had never heard of Alualu.
I did really want a DT but none appeared to be the caliber you’d want at the 10th spot. So my top 4 guys were Suh, McCoy, Berry, and Spiller. Way before our pick the first 3 were already gone. Then Spiller left and all the other guys like Haden and the LTs were gone. Then Gene picked Alualu. I was like WTF!!!! until I saw the film. I see why they liked him. He’s just nasty.
ha I tried to tell you about him dude
I had Dan Williams ranked over him just to renew the Stroud Henderson template.
but what the Jags have done makes the defense more armed to deal with the pass-first league.
He is super nasty I’m loving the new D. I saw some draft grades give the Jags a D or C-
on paper. Thats bs. Its a solid B that can become an A

What's with the choices
Is there really no room between better than the #2 & 3 picks and not worthy of the #10 ?
and what if he’s better than Suh, but not McCoy ?
I thought
he could be better than both. But he could also be worse than both and still be really good. I actually expect him to be better than McCoy, for a couple of reasons. One he has better hands and more game strength. Also Alualu is supposed to have more of a 3 technique roll. McCoy will obvious have to play the over position with Brian Price still there playing the 3.
