The longest Highlight Vid
on the internet. And guess who it is. It's none other than UCLA CB Alterraun Verner. You guys are in for a real treat. But give yourself a good while to watch the vid as it is long, but well worth it.
Key tricks to watching the film: More often than not he's wearing the white forearm-sleeves and his jersey number is 1. He also played NB a lot early in his career and mostly CB later. Also note, the arrows sometimes point to what side he's on vs where he is exactly, because the arrows cannot go high/low enough at times.
I think the thing about this film I was most impressed about, having seen him play a lot already was, how many times he made a tackle coming off a block. Getting off blocks, imo is very very underrated(especially at CB). Another thing to notice is that he definitely got faster and stronger as he got older, partially because he was a 17 yrs old and a 160 lbs as a true freshman when he first started playing. So he's still relatively young and physically improving as well as mentally. Last he doesn't look super explosive or super fast, partly because he's so fluid and he actually breaks down in space, but he's stuck on his receivers like stink on shit.
I know there is plenty more I could write about, but I'll let you guys comment on what you see instead.
(P.S. As you may have noticed, he put the video together himself)

Nice man
I’ll watch this over the next few days and get back to you. Watching the first five minutes I can already say I love his physicality

Haden vs Verner
How do you think these two compare? I honestly have not watched a whole lot of tape for Haden, being a Bulls fan and all. What I have seen has been pretty impressive, him and Kyle Wilson have been the CB’s I have singles out as the most likely targets for in the first round.
Haden vs Verner
well Verner is more of a smooth player. Very fluid hips, smooth backpedal and a smooth gait in general, not usually a guy that will explode into you when tackling(does sometimes), but he will wrap up and almost never miss the tackle.
Haden is a little edgier and more sudden and he has more pop when he tackles, but will miss a tackle from time to time because he doesn’t break down in space as well.
I think Haden has a little better short area quickness, but Verner makes up for it with better fluidity. Verner also has better long speed. This is apparent in their combine times too. Haden has a slightly better 10 split but Verner ran the faster 40. Haden had a better short shuttle which shows explosion, and Verner had the better 3 cone which shows fluidity.
Both have good ball skills, but I don’t think any CB in the draft has better ball skills than Verner. And Verner’s PBU’s/INT’s suggest that too.
Haden has a little leg up on Verner in bump n run, as he is a little bulkier, but Verner is no softy either as you can see in the film.
All in all, I don’t know why Haden is deemed a better prospect other than the fact that Haden pops a little more on film and he was on a better team.
This is where we agree
Why take a CB who only is graded better because of where he played. That sounds nothing like Gene’s M.O. for picks, ala Cox…I think we take a McClain or Clausen, if not trade down and take someone like Verner in the second round.
Nice Post
He’s a great prospect to keep an eye on.
