UPDATED: What the Jags QB core should be
David Garrard, in my opinion, is a good QB. And he deserves the starting QB position. If Mark Brunell doesn't sign with the Jets, we should sign him, and draft a young QB(Tebow possibly). After the draftig of a QB, we should trade Luke McCown for a late pick. David Garrard and abd Mark Brunell can serve as mentors and turn the young rookie into a great QB.
p.s. don't want a QB at first round
Depth Chart
1. David Garrard
2. Rookie QB
3. Mark Brunell
Garrard is getting old, we need to start looking into building blocks for the future, which we have been doing. But not at QB. David Garrard is 32, the average age of an NFL QB retiring is what?? 35? At the moment, if Garrard decided to retire, know one is there to fill his spot, and were screwed. I don't want to be one of those teams, that drafts a QB and throw him right into the first string QB on the season opener. We need to mold a rookie, not draft a first rounder, and get an inconsisted one(like Mark Sanchez). Molding a rookie into a great QB is just like raising a baby, you have to nurture it, look after it, make sure its developing correctly. If you just throw the QB in there anything an happen.
And Mark Brunell is still in NFL, he must still have something left. Or maybe we can keep McCown and sign Brunell and a rookie, but thats too deep for the usual Jaguars QB chart, normally only have 2/3

Brunell is old
McCown has more upside than Brunell. You don’t trade young players, and sign old ones, it won’t work in the NFL. As for mentoring, Garrard is more than enough if the Jags were to draft somebody.
McCown is about=to a 6th round rookie QB in my opinion he sucks
Brunell for Jaguar retirement and mentor skills of a young QB
But let the rookie be spot #2

I disagree
McCown isn’t that bad, otherwise the Jags wouldn’t have traded for him. If you want Brunell to mentor players, then hire him as a coach, don’t waste a roster spot on an old QB. If the Jags draft a QB, he probably won’t be the #2 guy at first.

AND COACHES COACH!!!!!!!!!!!!! just sayin.

Let's trade McCown and sign Marino
Why not? We can have a quarterbacks coach who can suit up! Honestly, Mallet and Ponder next year look better than all current qb draft prospects. Let’s have a little competition with Mccown and Garrard and revisit this topic next year. We aren’t looking at good odds for finding a winner.

Amazing
After over two thousand years of undrafted free agency, how could so many people credit him for their skills yet no one has even given him a chance on their practice squad. If anyone can do it, Gene Smith will. Make it happen Gene.

Terry Bradshaw is getting up there in years, and I question Jesus Christ’s dedication to football. Maybe for a 7th or Clint Ingram.
But Christ is a winner
He wills his team to victory, you know… The whole “thy will be done” thing. People doubted him his whole life, but he keeps overcoming the doubters. He can save the franchise, as well as the sinners!

Just let it play out
Jags might draft a quarterback, but odds are you’re going to have Garrard and McCown as your two quarterbacks.
This deserves a C'Monnn Mannn
the next time the Jags should sign Brunell is for a one day contract to retire a Jaguar.
Mark can comeback to retire with Jags
but I don’t see how he can make the 52 man cut. The Jags have kept 2 QBs on 52 man roster the past few years to have depth in other positions.
The QB is not an overwhelming need. Jags have invested a lot in Garrard. Luke has not yet been given a platform to play while learning the system thoroughly . If in late rounds the Jags look for QB, that would be OK.

smart thinking

Well I think we should trade Luke for a late pick. Pick up someone who can be a good QB within a few years, and cominbg into the NFL is qb quality, and take Brunell for 2 reasons.
1. Mentor
2. retire as a jag
Brunell is great
Being a Jags fan since the start, I think Brunell is the man. He’s my favorite Jaguar of all time and would love to see him in the uniform again. That being said I don’t think we should put him on as an actual back up quarterback. But also I don’t think he can be any worse than McCown, if he would even play anyway. Love him or hate him you can’t deny Garrard is a beast who can def take a beating and keep on playing.
+1
I’m right there with you.
Somehow, I think Brunell would be satisfied if didn’t retire as a Jag. Not sure, haven’t been a Jag fan that long, but something tells me he’s fine just walking off into the sunset. Think about. How long has he been gone. A lot has happened since he’s left. Not to mention, he won a SB with the Saints. Even though he didn’t have a huge part in it, he may want to be last remembered as being tied to a SB win. But who knows?
Regardless of him retiring a Jag or not, I don’t think he would make any better a back up than McCown. Garrard has been in the league goin on 9 years. I think he understands the game of football by now, especially in the class room. He knows every bit as much as Peyton in the class room, the difference is on the field.
I would think
that Mark would want to be remembered for his on-the-field accomplishments. Not holding for kicks and a clipboard. I’m sure he was a calming and knowledgeable presence for Brees on the sidelines, and he was part of a champion in what was a SB desperate Football town.
I just think he would want to be remembered for his play and great post-season pushes with a young franchise. I’d say He is the best Jag to date..
