When the Cincinnati Bengals
signed veteran wide receiver Matt Jones
earlier this offseason, it wasn't met with much approval around the NFL despite Jones' imposing height.
Out of the NFL last season after being cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars
following a history of violating the NFL substance abuse policy and some legal issues, Jones reportedly didn't have a very strong tryout.
So far, the Bengals are glad that they rolled the dice on the former first-round draft pick from Arkansas.
According to the Bengals' official website, Jones has been the surprise of minicamp.
He reportedly burst past starting cornerback Leon Hall
for a catch.
An unnamed offensive player said: "Matt Jones is a beast."
And quarterback Carson Palmer
chimed in: "He's always a mismatch."
If Jones' problems are behind him and he can apply these practice performances to games, then the Bengals might have found something valuable on the NFL discard pile.
I really like M.Jones, and it sucks we had to cut-ties with him....PS- A piece of me died when we cut Freddy T, it sucks when the business side of things take over!
