Absurdly Early Guess at the Jacksonville Jaguars Final 53
We're in the real deadzone of the year. Mini Camp is over, and the public won't be getting another look at the Jaguars until Training Camp starts in July. It's also the time of year sportswriters and bloggers love to make random predictions, so that the one of two that actually stick by December can be used to validate all of their other opinions.
With that, I figured I would take a guess at how the Jaguars final 53 will look in August. I'm not going to make any real shocking predictions, like McCown unseating Garrard, at least not yet. However, there are going to be alot of battles in this year's training camp.

I see
Antohny Smith; McGaha; and Whitehead or Haslam in.
Ko Quaye; N. Hughes and the 1 or the loser of the Newton-Estes race out

Did anyone notice
That there is no Brad Meester, this is interesting but I just don’t see that Happening, I can see him maybe not starting but I don’t that they are going cut him
Shake and Bake
Honestly
I don’t see Meester making the team. He was the real weak spot in the line last year

I still think that he is better than Cecil Newton and John Estes, but either way in this scenario its dumb cuz I don’t see there being three centers on the roster; with Uche being the starter
Shake and Bake
John Estes hasn't played a down in the NFL.
All I hear, though, are good things. One of the best things? He’s young. Remember, even though Jack said his goal is division, this is a rebuilding team. Youth is a big factor. Plus, Meester, as much as I love him, sucked last year.

As I said
Anthony Smith is an almost lock as well…

I'm halfway
Not kidding when I say we should sign him for the vet minimum.

I'm sure that's fine with him
I wouldn’t be shocked if he retired.

Biggest changes from your list I'd make
Keeping- Trading off
Meester- Estes: Especially if we are keeping Newton
Jeramey Mincey- Ko Quaye: Ko is basically a lesser version of DA Smith
Chris McGaha- Nate Hughes
Zach Potter- Earnest Wilford: Already have enough pass catchers, Potter has nice athleticism but also weighs 280lbs
Courtney Greene- Trevor Harris: Trevor will get by on the PS, and McCown is good enough and young enough to only go 2 deep.
Haslam could beat out Black
Fair enough
I think Ko is more in line with Knighton than Smith though

Plus
With his raw physical numbers, if Ko shows any football ability in the preseason, I doubt he’ll make it to the PS

Def
more Knighton than Smith. He’s a stout holder of the point and run stuffer.

Hey may have
numbers(Height and weight) that suggest that he’s more of a Knighton than Smith, but he plays more like Smith. He was almost completely washed at NT against lower level competition. He would get eaten alive in the NFL trying to be a run stuffer. But like Smith when he was shading a blocker, whether it was Center or a Guard, he did much better as a penetrator.
Smith
is good bit quicker than Ko.
Ko won’t bring what Alualu/Smith brings he would bring the more stout role of Knighton.

I agree that Smith
is much quicker than Ko, but I still think that that’s Ko’s strength. Because, I didn’t see a true stuffer in his highlights.
With you on most
I like Mincey and could see the Jag’s keeping him.
Zach Potter doesn’t fit the H-back role that Wilford does. Jag’s used him in that often. I do expect more outta Wilford than his showing last yr tho.
Agree about Harris Jag’s will keep 2 QBs like they have been to conserve roster spots.

Well Potter
may not be an H-Back type, but behind Marcedes Lewis we have no other inline blockers. And besides I’ve never seen Wilford line up in the back field. At best he’s a inline back side guy. If you want an H-Back, Zach Miller is our guy. At least Miller played that move TE that lined up in the back field every once in a while, as well as in-line.
Yeah I think
Miller is better than Wilford. I’m not sure if Jag’s want to mold him into a blocker-if they want to do this and have a H-back they could keep Wilford.
I’d be fine with ZM playing HB..If Wilford has a shot at all it’s in H-Back. he could be gone.
Jags are in need of a blocker.

Sorry to nitpick Jonathan
But JDR said on the fan forum Tuesday night that the players report back for OTA’s in 2 weeks. So it’s not quite the dead zone just yet!
I don't believe any of those are public, though

Ha.........Denver just signed Mo Williams

OOOO
good point. Hadn’t thought of that. Though I don’t think it would be salty. He couldn’t pass his physical. By the time he was healthy, his contract had run out.
True..........
I always liked Mo. Its just weird to see Jaguars in other uniforms.

Montell Owens
will not be cut…he’s a team “C” and a stud on ST…they won’t keep 3qbs…

Owens is there

Six linebackers
And six cornerbacks is a lot at one position.
If hip hop is dead, then it happened the day that Dilla died.
-Akrobatik
6 linebackers isn’t that many considering that you have 3 starting linebackers and that gives you three back ups, but I definitely think that six it too many for CBs
Shake and Bake
Five
Is fine for linebackers IMO. No more than two linebackers are going to go down with an injury in a single game, and its easy to find patches during the season.
Yeah… you really only need four corners.
If hip hop is dead, then it happened the day that Dilla died.
-Akrobatik
But
We have a few safeties that can play corner as well. And I can’t remember too many times where we went dollar package last year.
If hip hop is dead, then it happened the day that Dilla died.
-Akrobatik
And lots of teams
only keep 3 safeties. To me, keeping another bad safety doesn’t make the safety position any better. That just means it will be more full of crap.
Every
Time I look at a teams depth chart it has four safeties listed. Which teams only keep three?
If hip hop is dead, then it happened the day that Dilla died.
-Akrobatik
4th
is still a depth position. He’s ST only until someone gets hurt or disappears on field etc.
I’m not a fan of ST only players-they need to have other skills or developmental potential as well.
good god this is a dead zone

It's not the dead zone yet
it’s the “coma zone”
You can't reason with unreasonable people.
GO NOLES!!!!!!
JDR
Said they’re likely to keep only 2 QBs this year. I guess that’s not set in stone…but there it is.

You didn't get the call?
You need to update your phone number on your Jaguars account. The fan forum calls can be informative in not entertaining.
Vae Victis!
I got the call
I just hung up I was in the middle of Cooking dinner. I was making Country fried steak, homemade mash potatoes and homemade buttermilk biscuits. And I wasn’t about drop what I was doing.
Shake and Bake
McGaha...
Could make the squad. Don’t forget about him.
Safety and Reciever weakness
Gene will sign a FA safety and another veteran WR and I doubt Williamson, Meester, Podlesh and maybe even Hayward make the team. It is clear we are making huge roster changes and Hayward and Meester are getting old – Great guys but may not be able to keep them with the youth movement…Garrard may be the oldest player on the team opening day…We need to upgrade the Punter position in a big way.
Chad
I can't see Williamson not making the team
And I can’t see Gene signing a veteran receiver. Other than that, I agree with you.

I don't see
Gene signing a veteran receiver either, but I can envision him not keeping Troy Williamson, though I would not like to see him get cut and I’m not saying it will happen but it’s probably more likely to happen than people think. Having said that, Troy has a good chance of staying.
