Looking for the Low Down on John Henderson

Greetings again big cats! I visited this fine site earlier in the off-season in search of info on Q. Groves and I appreciated the in depth information I got. Little did I know that I would be back so soon. What does John Henderson have left in his tank?

I have to be honest, over at S&BP we are pretty jacked about this signing. The biggest remaining hole the defense seemed to have was a blocker eating, run stuffing DT. Most of expect Henderson is a solid solution to this problem. The Raiders now have some excellent depth on the D-line and are only going to need Henderson for roughly 35 snaps a game. So, does he still got game?

Poll
John Henderson
will be hungry and motivated, which will lead to a big year.

is on the decline, but he will flourish in limited snaps and he'll provide great run D.

is slipping. He will be a average run down DT.

is hanging by a thread. He will provide a few good snaps, but be a disappointment

The decline of John Henderson is permenent

There will be no moments of glory. That is why it is a one year deal. Cash out and leave.

Bingo

The John Henderson of 03-06 is dead and has been replaced by a half hearted imposter.

He still is a fan favorite. A lot of us were sad to see him go, but we understood that he’s a bit on the decline and we’re going with a youth movement. I feel he still has a little left in the tank and would be good on stuffing the run, but not so much for penetrating the OL like he used to. A one year deal was a good, and expected, deal.

One year deal, with no cap? You can't go wrong.

Plus, not only does he not have big shoes to fill, but he almost has no shoes to fill.

There was a rumor

That you offered a 5th rounder for him before he was cut. Let’s just say that was overpaying. Getting him for no picks and veteran minimum, you got an ok deal. Just hope you didn’t pay a lot for him. His motivation is in question.

Well, he has the motivation of playing for his next contract.

Are you guys pissed the Jags didn’t take that 5th round trade?

I wish I could say I related,

but as a Raider fan I can say I don’t know what it is like to have the front office makes amusing moves.

“The Raiders put out a story that they offered the Jags a fifth round pick for Henderson and the Jags turned it down and then the raiders signed him for nothing when he was cut..makes the raiders look very savvy. good story but it’s not true the raiders didn’t offer any pick for henderson but hey why let the truth get in the way of a good story” – Twitter.com/VitoStellino

so… is he still a stupid GM?

I wish

We took the offer, but according to some rumors, the offer was before the draft. We took 2 DTs which destroyed his trade value. Everyone knew it was coming at that point. Gene Smith is top notch though. I think he is the Jaguars 2nd biggest asset behind the owners. That doesn’t mean he walks on water, but I would have liked the 5th rounder for next year. I’m already over it though.

Yeah

Saw that, but it came out well after this comment. Vito or the Raiders. Pick your side. There’s reason to believe each. Are you trying to get me to believe that Gene Smith does walk on water? Maybe Al is desperate to look wise, so he’s claiming to have scammed Gene for street cred. All I have to say is that another pick would have been nice. It didn’t happen, so let’s see how things shake out.

Sarcasm

I think I need to start labeling it from now on. It’s getting ridiculous how many arguments have come from me joking around. I’m joking around 90% of the time. I enjoy football too much to take it seriously.

Maybe I need to add the tone of my response too

Here’s my tone for the comment above
(replies in a generally positive manner while agreeing with previous assesment and slight disdain for the raiders claims in addition to a sarcatic tone about Gene Smith taking over Tim Tebow’s status as the annointed one of Jacksonville) I’m just playing man.

We have a GM

Tkopa we finally have a GM who makes decision based on football and not anything else. This year we will see what the Jags have become.

Remenber it is not who you are , but what you do that defines you. GO JAGS

Hes a 0-type DT, Hole stuffer isnt the 3-type, that he was used as last season, main reason we let him go, but we should of kept Montavious Stanley(cuz now we only have 1 0-type DT). Knighton is better then Henderson at 0-type, and even Attiyah Ellison is a better 3-type. Srry but Big-Hen is on a decline, and would only be roster depth to most teams, but u r a raider fan. So a college player is a hall of famer in ur town. OUCH

Don't bash them too much

I thought they had a pretty good draft this year. All they really need is a quarterback, and they may have one in Campbell.

You can't reason with unreasonable people.

The biggest weakness looks like O-line at this point.

by Rich Langford on Jun 14, 2010 4:48 AM EDT up reply actions

You don't have a great

OL for pass pro, but it’s not bad in general. I’d be more worried about the receiving group.

by Ewdtrey on Jun 14, 2010 4:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Tackles are weak.

As it is now, they are actually counting on Langston Walker to start at RT. LT Henderson was wildly inconsistent last year. Satele sucked at center, but he is young and it was a new system. Gallery needs to stay healthy. In short it worries me.

WR’s aren’t going to knock anyone over, but there is more hope there. Especially if Chaz Schillens can stay healthy. The guy has all the tools to be a #1 in this league, but he has injury problems. DHB has actually been impressing in camp and should contribute much more than last year. And L. Murphy had a solid rookie campaign and should be improving as well.

Of course, all of the WR’s are going to benefit by having a real QB throw them the ball. I am serious about Schillens. He is worth eying for a wild card fantasy pick. If he stays healthy, he will have a big year.

I think when people are being funny, they are actually being serious and when people are being serious, it's actually really funny.

That is a Raider fans dream right there.

Hopefully he stays healthy and we can see. Who knows about that though. He had injury issues in college as well.

I think when people are being funny, they are actually being serious and when people are being serious, it's actually really funny.

by Rich Langford on Jun 14, 2010 4:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I actually

like Langston Walker at RT. Satele could be better, but he’s not a slouch. you have to consider the fact that everyone around him last year kept changing in and out and he wasn’t exactly a veteran in the system.
Yeah your OL needs to stay healthy, but even some of your backups(Khalif Barnes) were capable starters at one point in their careers.

by Ewdtrey on Jun 14, 2010 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope you are right.

Walker did well, when he came in as a guard last year. We will see how he does as a zone blocking tackle. Barnes was a huge disappointment last year. He got hurt and had a hard time switching to the right side. When he did play RT he got torched. He is getting his reps at guard. It’ll be interesting to see how that works.

I think when people are being funny, they are actually being serious and when people are being serious, it's actually really funny.

by Rich Langford on Jun 14, 2010 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions

A declining Henderson is okay.

As long as he is not declined. Like I said, they are only going to need him for limited snaps. They have amassed solid depth on the D-line. This was the one area on the line they were lacking.

I think when people are being funny, they are actually being serious and when people are being serious, it's actually really funny.

Big John has talent

The big question mark with him is motivation.
He will go missing for games,,but when he is playing he still is capable of being an impact player
expecially against the run.
